Gigger
often (not always) have a bonus track added to them that arn't on western albums?Simple question and presuming there is a simple answer too.Albums are more expensive in Japan so they often get extra tracks included or so I've always been led to believe. Because albums are more expensive, the Japanese generally expect more music for their money.
Guest knerken
Bonus tracks on Japanese editions are in almost all cases B-sides released on singles in Europe or US, but not in Japan. The Japanese should have the opportunity to hear these songs aswell. Unfair to us Western CD-buyers, as we must buy both the singles and the albums to hear all the artist's songs. Edit: Gigger may also be right. Edited July 2, 2008 by knerken
MrBrownstone531
Japan has a problem with bootleg versions of albums. It's a lot cheaper to buy the US/Europe copy of an album on the black market than it would be to get it in the store. As a way to entice people to buy the real, legal versions, record companies will put bonus songs on the Japanese versions that they wouldn't get if they bought a bootleg. Ashlar
yeah your average japanese CD is $50 there, so they give an incentive to not import the US/European version for $15.
SolidSnake
I've always wondered this, thanks for clearing it up.
