And when he does the "Yowsa" or "OW!" now it isn't nearly as rough or coarse - it sounds more like a screech than a roar. It's like, "YEEEOWSA!" rather than "YOWsa!" BTW on that file you posted when Axl says "FREE to be HOOOME" or whatever, listen to the pitch he gets...that's what the OP was talking about...and when he sings "AWAAAAY"...it's missing the rasp he used to have.But I don't think it means he's lost his voice, it's just DIFFERENT, people.
