New Rose 76
Hey Marc! Did you attend any of the three shows at the Troubador, Roxy or the Whiskey last month and if so what did you think of the band?
Popular Post recklessroad
I went to the Troubadour because I always remember that being the place that the band had there best gigs at. Lots of old memories from there. The gig was cool. Every time they did a GNR song, it brought back all the times that GNR played those songs there except SCOM which was never played there. I didn't want to be a pig about it so I didn't ask for any other tickets for the other 2 gigs. I still got invited to the Roxy gig from the people that were filming it because they interview me for something they are putting together regarding Slash. I had just worked 23 hours of hard labor at Canter's and was too tired to go to it. However Slash told me that the Whisky was the best of the 3 gigs. As far as the band, they sounded great. Slash did a 15 minute solo in Rocket Queen and really opened up nicely in it. For me it was the best part of the gig. Slash does best when he is free to improvise with some cool music behind him. Thats what makes him different then the others, thats when he really stands out. If you search for the few times that he did those Hendrix tributes, you will see him shine. Jimi looking down and tilting his hat saying "thats the cat I want filling in for me"
New Rose 76
That's awesome Mark! Thanks for the insight and I dig the Hendrix comparison on the solo improv stuff. You are totally right. Slash gives the chills when he plays the outro on Civil War with the Jimi tribute. My buddy from Philly went out for the shows and ended up going to two of them. The Troubadour and the Roxy. Amish
The second and ending solo of Hey Joe at the Jimi Hendrix tribute is very cool, especially close to the end of the solo...Slash just straight up murders his strings at the end of it.
