  1. Gardening

Use this thread to discuss anything you're growing… whether that is a houseplant, cress for your sandwiches, a garden, or substances of variable licitness depending on your jurisdiction. --------------------------- We moved into a house with a garden a year ago. The first garden I have to look after. I spent last year managing to keep on top of the weeds and mowing the lawn, but this year I want to make it look good. I'm going to try to commit an afternoon a week to this, though that sounds like a vain hope. Here is my garden in October. Would love to get that lawn a more vibrant colour, but the apple tree overshadows it. Would like to discuss gardening with someone who knows what they're talking about. I figured a Guns N' Roses forum would be the best place on the internet to find that person.
  2. British Politics

This thread was originally for the 2017 General Election. It's still a popular thread so I've renamed it for British Politics in general. A few guidance notes: We have a rule against personal insults. Thoughtful debate and discussion is allowed. Arguments which become about point-scoring will be scrutinised carefully.
  3. COVID-19 Outbreak

My brother had it, he caught it while he was at work in a hospital. He takes things in his stride, but said that he found it a struggle to breathe. He's recovered now. My husband's aunt who is in her fifties had it, and still isn't 100% months later.

I have been. I remember waiting in line at immigration at Orlando airport and *knowing* I was in the US as the floor was carpeted. I'll return as soon as y'all don't have the Rona anymore.

Mate, you also are in a tornado region. At least here in the UK our houses don't get flattened after some usual weather. Out of curiosity, where abouts in Florida are you?

@Graeme Please remind me, which 90s boyband were you in?
  7. General Chat / Random Musings

I went on a tour of the Düvel brewery once. It was a corporate thing. They got us drunk on beer and cheese pairing in the afternoon, then put us in a hot dark room and made us watch a PowerPoint on bike helmets. It was an excellent work trip.

To be safe you need to descend the stairs on your bum. It's a cheap thrill. My daughter manages it and she's two.

These days you bianually emerge from your Mexican volcano to look down on us (literally) then return to your tacos and lava.

I actually really enjoyed the original MyGNR podcast. When I was a mod, staff did float the idea of reintroducing it, but ultimately none of us had the time.

    Subscribed via Pocketcasts, thank you.

Dangerous to admit to things like that here. We'll all be asking you for advice!

@RussTCB Please can you link me to your podcast? I always wanted to join in with your music nights, but the time difference prevented it.
  14. What's your unpopular GN'R opinion?

The Spaghetti Incident is a fine album. Not amazing, not progressive. Not what GN'R could have achieved at the time. But still a fun listen.
  15. Member Picture Thread

For the past few weeks, I've been working on a painting. On Sunday night, I left my daughter in front of the TV with her dinner, while I say in the next room. This was the first time I've done this. She was fairly quiet, so after dinner I popped in to check on her, to find that she'd helped with the painting. Thankfully it cleaned up beautifully.
  16. COVID-19 Outbreak

So please can someone explain something to me which I'm missing. There's a lot of talk about how we're in a recession and it's going to get much worse. I understand how an economic downturn is happening as many businesses can't operate now. But over the coming months, things are going to return to more or less as they were. People will return to their jobs, events will take place, businesses are going to pick up steam again, and people will spend money. How is all of the above going to worsen a recession, instead of if being a sign of a recovery?
  17. Gibbo Stepping Down as Mod

Thank you Gibbo. You appeared to fit into the moderating team really well. Keeping setlists updated isn't easy, as if a distraction happens, then you can easily miss a song. While I'm here, I'll add a thank you to Downzy and the other admins and moderators. As far as voluntary jobs, moderating isn't easy, as few decisions are black and white. There's some politics, and you have to try to make fair decisions when someone's PMing you with insults. The moderating team here have actually stuck at this for years and years too. It was disheartening when GN'R weren't doing anything, however when the reunion happened, suddenly it became quite a commitment of time and everyone had to be a team player. I'll be the first to admit that I didn't get everything right, but I know the team we've had for the last couple of years is fair, they are involved to the right degree and are really fun people. Thank you for keeping the lights on here and for making the forum such a pleasant experience for its thousands of users.

I just had to look him up. I reckon I'm in his league. I didn't realise that you needed huge biceps to play the harmonica, but now it's obvious.
  19. General Chat / Random Musings

There's a hot metal harmonica player on Cbeebies today, and I'm deeply confused. Harmonica players aren't sexual beings.
  20. New[ish] Velvet Revolver Song

Nice song. Can see how it didn't make the cut for an album, but not so bad. Guy has some balls, to want to step into Scott Weiland's shoes is one thing. To take Jesus' job is quite another.
  21. General Chat / Random Musings

Could have been, however nobody has discovered the Nirvana equivalent of the Rosetta Stone to decipher those lyrics yet.
  22. General Chat / Random Musings

Yep, we get a lot of tourists here, nobody is shocked by what you look like. Barnsley on the other hand...well that's Rotherham. A few years ago the council and the police were exposed for protecting a paedophile ring of Asian men who were exploiting the fostering service m. Nobody whistleblowed as they didn't want to be accused of being racist. Sorry you had a bad time. I have family in that area, and despite their best efforts, they haven't ever been able to sell their house. When I was working in London, I was 21 and advised to avoid Brixton. During that time the riots broke out. I think I did end up there once and its the only thing in the world which reminded me of being in the marketplace in The Gambia. Just so alien to my usual experience of London.

So since this is topical and this is a fairly anonymous way of discussing things; There's been a lot of awareness regarding Black Lives Matter, and educating people on microagressions. People who were not racist, but not actively anti-racist. It's all very positive. I'm from a very white city. I can honestly say that I have a grand total of three black friends who live here. The village I grew up in didn't have any black people. There was one Indian lady, and that's as multicultural as it got. So there are so many people out there who have been thinking "I can't be racist, I don't know any black people who I could discriminate against". I don't know where I'm going with this. Insular places shall remain so if they make it difficult for new cultures to be welcomed in. But nowhere's going to run a Welcome to Royston Vasey campaign when there's no incentive to move there. The only thing I can conclude is just to love people as they are and being willing to learn from them. Which all seems very passive and emotional in contrast to the events of the last week.
  24. The Stadium Tour- Offical Update

I'm really glad about this. Lockdown hasn't been taken seriously enough by too many people in the US. Covid is still spreading, and I honestly felt that any attempt to bolster the economy there would have been far too early.

As @AslatIE said. Also I'd argue that they were more all-round entertainers. Their public jobs were TV appearances, the US tour and making that delightful movie which came on a lime green VHS. Beyond that, they had a dance routine to nail for each song. As live appearances were so rare, vocals could be patched up with other singers and during production. Back then there wasn't a great variety of pop music to choose from. All Saints and Eternal probably had a bit more talent but lacked the charisma.
