  1. Some of you people need to stop living in the past, there's been some amazing music this decade and probaly loads more i've missed out or yet to hear

The Strokes - Is this it

    Arcade fire - Funeral

    Arcade fire - Neon bible

Arctic monkeys - Whatever people say i am, thats what I'm not

Flaming lips - Yoshimi battles the pink robots

    Tom Waits - Alice

    Brian Wilson - Smile

Kings of leon - Youth and young manhood

    Bob Dylan - Modern times

Bob Dylan - Love and theft

    Rufus Wainwright - Want one

    Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker

    The white stripes - Elephant

  2. Sgt. peppers

    Really?

Why? I don't listen to the Beatles much, but I always liked that album....

    Yep, never understood the hype

Dark Side Of The Moon probably...that album isn't even close to the best Pink Floyd albums

There should be a law against saying that!

    Best album ever made. Ever.

But I am curious as to why you'd rate it so low compared to their other stuff. Care to explain?

I feel the same about dark side aswell

  3. At least half of New Jersey is pretty good but apart from that their 80's stuff is complete shit, however Keep the faith and These days are proper rock albums which embrace real themes (religion, isolation, lost faith ect...) and have a great selection of songs, not a million miles away from U2 actually. The other album (Crush) which bookends their mature period is also pretty decent but anything after that or before NJ is wank.

  4. Kinda inspired by the essential album thread, but this time name the essential Bob Dylan songs and keep it down to 5. Try not to name the obvious aswell, here's mine:

    1. Lovesick

    2. You're a big girl now

    3. Idiot wind

    4. Spirit on the water

    5. One of us must know (Sooner or later)

  5. Some of these albums mentioned are about as essential as being shot in the face but meh

    226. Arcade Fire - Funeral

    227. Marvin Gaye - What's Going On

    228. Johnny Cash - American Recordings

    229. Antony & The Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now

    230. Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

  6. 56. The Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, Thats What Im Not

    57. Van Morrison - Astral Weeks

    58. The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin

    59. Bob Dylan - Time Out Of Mind

    60. Tom Waits - Bone Machine

  7. Great thread

    16. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

    17. Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde

    18. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Boatmans Call

    19. Lucinda Williams - Carwheels on a Gravel Road

    20. The Smiths - The Queen is Dead

  8. Pretty self explanitory really, it'll probaly be Glastonbury for me as i've never been and the lineup looks pretty diverse and most excellent (Arctic monkeys, the who, arcade fire, kasabian, bjork, the chemical brothers, lily allen, mika, the killers, kasier chiefs, the kooks.....) altho if the rumours about Rage against the machine playing Reading are true then im torn between the 2, especially as the chili's, the pumpkins and the cure are all rumoured also

  9. Grace has long been my favourite album of all time, the perfect mix of stunning voice, great songs/writing, great band, grandiosely produced and amazingly diverse. Really only one of a handful of musicians (along with Cobain and Hendrix) that died long before hitting their creative peak, such a beautiful free spirit. Anyone else really enjoy the documentary dvd that comes with the legacy edition of Grace?

  10. Soundgarden reunion??

    God I fucking hope so!

Either way, this is a good move for Cornell. Audioslave sucked, and he could have done much better without them. IMO, Chris Cornell is probably the best and most under-rated singer to get big in the 90's.

    Jeff Buckley? Mike Patton?

  11. How can the greatest frontman of all time be overrated?

Do you honestly believe that? I mean, if you do then fair play and you are entitled to your opinion - but I think it's stretching it a bit. He was a very good frontman when he was part of the smiths for sure - but I really feel it's pretty hard to describe his performances as a solo artist as being comparable to some of the truely great solo artists.

Admititly the majority of his solo stuff was pretty dire but in his prime in The Smiths he was the greatest frontman ever imo. Such a unique style of writing and a pair of glasses and a bunch of flowers in his pocket just confirms my theory

  12. The Smiths were an amazing band, but I find Morrissey's solo stuff all to be self-indulgent, contrived crap and wish he would disappear. He has cult-like status which was pretty much thanks to the NME putting him on the cover after blanking him for years. I really find him overrated massively.

How can the greatest frontman of all time be overrated?

But yeah The Smiths are probaly the best band of all time, The Queen is dead is their best album
