  1. Alls I know is CD just needs to come out. I think the time has come and gone for a regular release date, so Axl needs to have some huge day dedicated to the release of Chinese Democracy. It's hard to explain, but basically it's like Axl has waited to long to make this album come out on any good day. There's no good time for it. If he made a huge year long campaign with a countdown, that might cover it. But even then, the year pro-longment will drain all fans and make them tired of waiting to the point where they shall simply say, "FUCK IT."

It would be hilarious (or rather pathetic) if they played the same songs that in 2002.

But that won't happen : these shows are meant to promote Chinese Democracy. They will play a lot of new songs.

I agree with that. At the end of RIR3 Axl said they'd play a 'bunch of new songs' next time they came. Let's hope at least one of Axl's promises will come true this year.

  2. "He has reinvented music alone and in general."

With all due respect, I totally disagree w/that statement for two reasons. Number one, although the newer demos are certainly different, I don't see a re-invention of many sorts. Yes, it's different, but examples of reinvention are Gnr with Appetite and Nirvana with Nevermind, where the whole music scene shifted as a result. That brings up my second point. He hasn't released anything! Yeah we've heard a few demos, but nothing has officially come out to the mainstream public, so until then, we shouldn't speculate on what he's done. Who knows, maybe CD will come out and will reinvent the music scene, but for now, not much, if anything, has been accomplished. As Axl would say, "guess we'll have to wait and see."

When I made the statement you quoted, I meant to direct it at all GNR's work. But I agree with you and GNR'S AFD reinvention of music.

  3. I don't quite know what's going to happen, like everyone else. (Yes I read that whole thing). You're making a good argument, but you have counted out the fact that those who HAVE criticized Axl's newer works aren't major sources and should not be of worthey mention. His 2002 songs didn't even get critiscism, only a few reviews. The most criticism they get is on this forum.

Axl has reinvented his image completely with his rap clothing and braids w/ dreaded ends. He has reinvented his style. He has reinvented his band. He has reinvented music alone and in general.

I see and hear absolutely nothing of "been-there/done-that" about "Oh My God", "Better", or "Catcher In The Rye". Truly. And I have listened to every scrap of old GNR music anyone can hope to find, but "Better" reminds of no old songs. "Oh My God" doesn't either. "Catcher In The Rye" only reminded me of Axl's vocals and Queen's piano.

His epics are what the people love the most about him. I think what everyone is expecting from Axl is a record with a solid wall of epics. And with 10 years of solitude, I think it's also guaranteed that he will coin out a song that is honest and raw. It's Axl-fuckin'-Rose.

First of all, I apologize for the length of my post. :P

I agree with you and I know that fans of Axl want an album of epics. But I'm telling you, maybe that time has come and gone for the rest of the world? Axl is in his 40's. Maybe what would really reinvent Axl Rose would be something completely out of left field.

We know Axl Rose can write great lyrics and he's got an ear for melody. Instead of writing sappy songs like The Blues and Madagascar (both of which I like), why not a "Tears in Heaven" or "Black Hole Sun"? I've always wanted to hear his song "This I love" because every indication suggested that it was a song that came from somewhere deep in his soul. It's songs like that, which will win people over.

Fans will make CD a success, but it will be forgotten unless it speaks to people on an emotional level.

Why do you think guys from Axl's era like Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, etc are always held in higher esteem than Axl Rose? Think about the songs they write compared to Axl? Axl's songs while they have great lyrics, are never really soul baring. He never explores it very much aside from the odd track like Coma and Estranged....

Look at November Rain's lyrics, they are beautiful, but....that's all they are. Beautiful lyrics. Not really a window into a man's soul are they?

I think the time for songs like "Twat", "IRS", and even "Catcher" have come and gone. The braids and dreads would have been fine in 1997/1998, but now it doesn't fit a guy who's in his 40's.

A mature Axl Rose who's still a badass but can write an honest and simple record would sweep the grammys. With the strength of a single like "better" he'd have the attention, MTV loves guns n roses, and the critics seeing a mature Axl Rose would blow their minds....

Trust me, I get what you mean about other artists like Nirvana being favored over Axl for the test of time. You definitely know what you're talking about.

But there is also to consider that the songs Axl wrote with the old GNR were never quite soul bringing because he wasn't writing ever piece of music. Slash and Duff refused to do a lot of songs such as November Rain or Knockin' On Heaven's Door the way Axl wanted to. If you listen to the 2001-2002 version of Knockin' On Heaven's Door, now that is a soul-bringin epic right there. Same with the new lineup's version of "Patience". They are simply amazing.

If Axl tried to write songs in the same esque as "Tears In Heaven", then he'd be called a rip off. I think he'll get enough shit for writing something like "Catcher" because it's too similar to Queen's work.

Axl said in the Rolling Stone interview in January that "you'll like at least a few songs on there". "People will say 'it doesn't sound like GNR'."

But then again, it's Axl, and as you said earlier, we have yet to hear/see the finished product. Either way, it's going to be very promising.

  5. man, i've heard may 23rd, june 6th, and about a dozen other dates. who knows? me personally, i'm thinkin' between september and november. the tuesday before thanksgiving wouldn't be a bad idea. the day after thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year, the best buys and circuit city's will be packed, so even the casual listeners will see the shelves stocked with cd and may just impulsively buy it just to give it a listen.

I wish it was coming out march 28th, the day before my birthday.

That is the most reasonbale reply on this entire forum.

  6. Scott's a fuckin bohemian ass crack sniffer. He wears tight pants and looks anarexic. On the live version of Sliver on the Letterman show during Slash's solo, he stared dancing like a goddamn stipper and slash was the pole. He tries to rip off Axl so much, so screw that ass face.

People forget Slash fucked up solos too. Listen to the Tokyo show. Brutal at some points. No one is perfect. Finck has the soul and the commitment that Guns deserves. Let him prove he has what it takes.

That's very true. He screwed up the "November Rain" solo so bad. It was pathetic. Robin never fucked any of his solos over. Robin's solo for "The Blues" owns anyway. Same for "Better". There's way too much emotion in there and I doubt Slash could ever recreate that emotion.

  7. Okay, I don't know if any of you have heard this already or not, but I've gotten tips from several employees at Vintage Vinyl and even a my sister's boyfriend's brother (who works for Geffen, I don't really know that much) but they all say it's a guitarist named Michael Angelo. www.angelo.com is his website. I don't really think that he would fit that well though.
