  1. Okay, please frank, DO NOT embarrass yourself. London Calling is nothing short of a masterpiece.

hey look, you're a really smart guy and all and i dont really know a lot when it comes to like...i dunno, the in's and outs of music, i noticed you got that tacked down but...i'm not that smart and shit but i got a pretty good bullshit detector and i've gone to great lengths to give you reasons to back up my opinions, while you cop out behind "DO NOT embarrass yourself" im not at all embarrassed, when you discuss something, you bring up point, thats how you know whether a motherfucker knows what he's talking about or not.

And all the people who seem to be ragging the pistols musically, they were kids, they were 20 by the time they broke up, street kids with a manager that didnt really give a flying fuck about em, demonised across the world and yet they came up with some pretty orignal music, their OWN sound, forging their OWN audience touring england and getting their butts whooped up and down the Isle in the name of music. Steve Jones created a guitar sound on his album that has informed british guitar playing ever since. listen to Oasis's guitar sound, especially on Morning Glory (the album) the "wall of sound". its REALLY tightly produced and people seem to totally ignore this or just not even delve into it at all and write of the production on the album without even looking into the matter. i think it was Chris Spedding of Roxy Music fame that produced it. and Paul was just a straight ahead solid rock n roll drummer. they cant be compared to the clash of course in that musicianmanship stakes, i agree but honesty honesty honesty stands for EVERYTHING to me and this is what the pistols were and it shines out in their work and stance.

the clash and bands like em are half the reason that punk ended up being not taken very seriously because they couldn't get over that alienation/sloganeering/political hump and produce anything other than protest. when you protest its no good to just protest, you must offer solutions and unless you do, you end up getting labelled as whiney, THEREIN lies the difference between Joe Strummer and John Lennon.

point taken ODS about the exile on main street thing but precisely the reason Clash can't hold a candle to the sex pistols is same with the stones and why the can't fuck with my precious beatles that im always harping on about. do your own, be your own, make your own. sure beatles started off playing skiffle and then rock n roll/blues but look where they took it. the stones seemed content to just "preserve it right there in that jar" and im a little more stones informed now cuz i heard all their albums. point taken about Simonon. another thing about the student favorite (the clash) anyone ever heard of BIIIG AUDIO DYNAMITE? what a piece of fucking shit they were and the reason they were was this old thing that i brought up earlier in this post where its fine to just...y'know flat out copy you can make a comfortable, MORE than comfortable living, more than comfortable you can become iconic but you've got to know that those that lead the way do not take, they create.

"Joe Strummer, God bless him, he's gone and he shall be missed. But how dare he preach class war with an organisation like that (the late '80s Rock Against the Rich movement).

"Living in a huge house in Holland Park (west London). Every photo opportunity to be seen on a bus in his leather jacket and then he went back to a palace. You're not getting it quite right there! That's where his image mattered more to him than the reality. He was trying to con us. In a nice way and for the right reasons but once you start lying, it carries on and on and on."

but thats politickin bullshit, my point, i.e. all of the previous is made.

Look, I really get your point, and like ODS, you made me want to listen to NtB again. But really, what you're saying about The Clash is almost simply idiotic. Like what you said in the London Calling thread about it "trying" to show musical diversity, well you know, guess what, it DID! It showed amazing musical diversity and it also showed that the Clash were great pop songwriters, something you seem to think discredits the band for some weird reason.

You misunderstand me. I'm not saying the Clash were more punk than the Pistols, I'm simply saying that they were brilliant musicians and songwriters, EVEN if they were faking it. I understand what you dislike about Strummer, but just completely forget about the band's background and listen to London Calling as a pop album, not a punk album, and tell me it's not great.

  2. John Mellencamp- A good artist with plenty of swagger and ability to carry him through a long, winding career. What really discredits him is two stretches of mediocre record-making, one was his phase as the lovable, laughable, and pitifully untalented Bruce Springsteen clone "Johnny Cougar". While American Fool showed strong signs of progress, it was Uh-Huh that began a series of three great albums which was followed by another slump of just average records and then he produced another great album in Human Wheels, after which he hasn't produced anything notable at all.

Tom Petty- Not much needs to be said about Petty; he is a clearly distinctive, important songwriter, great musician, and has not produced a single below average album other than 02's The Last DJ, all while producing at least six truly great albums.

Bob Seger- Seger's early career is very inconsistent, a couple of monumental albums, and a few average albums. But starting in 1973, Bob produced a series of unbelievable albums that only ended in '82, after which he hasn't released anything truly notable, except for his excellent 2006 album Face the Promise.

Out of them, I choose Petty. Although Seger is about even with him in terms of good or great albums, Petty developed such a beautiful songwriting style, and to me remains a better musician and songwriter than Seger. Mellencamp is okay, but doesn't enter the equation for me.

To those wondering why I didn't include Springsteen; he would've won by a landslide.

  3. I really don't care what you call the Clash, or their live performances or their characteristics, what matters is that they produced London Calling and The Clash, two landmark albums, and they were obviously better songwriters and musicians than the Sex Pistols. Again, there were a couple of decent songs on NtB, but they just never fucking proved that they could blend reggae, punk, ska, plain rock n' roll, etc. as well as the Clash. The Clash broke down a ridiculous amount of musical barriers.

Maybe the Sex Pistols were more "punk" than the Clash, and maybe Jones is a wannabe rockstar, but fuck it if they didn't produce great music, pretenders or not, they produced better, more imaginative, and more original music than the Pistols.

  4. Adnan, I fucking hate you man.

I watched this out of curiousity, and the song is really shit.

You know what though? I fucking love it and it's been stuck in my head for the last 24hrs. I've been singing it everywhere.

Edit: And that x-rated video is some hot shit. Haha.

Okay. Now whatever you do do not listen to "Porno Star" by the same band, or you might go around singing "I'm a big dicked motherfucking porno star!".

Hey, but at least you're not one of those 30-somethings you see driving in their jeeps and blasting the track like overgrown frat boys.

  5. It's great to think how that lil thing wasn't all fake, judging from what I believe was the nature of the video's production.

You mean she's not making a lawsuit out of nothing?

I mean she wasn't some corporate appointed, silicone injected model.

No, she isn't. They put a myspace ad out, and then had a whole bunch of people show up and then taped them.

  6. Worst lyrics ever - just about anything by Cannibal Corpse really..

Cannibal Corpse lyrics are hilarious. :rofl-lol: I think the band does it on purpose though. They're one of the few death/black metal bands that see the element of Spinal Tap in their music and utilizes it.

  7. Here's one of the songs from his new album, "Maybe There's a World", I hope people look at this. It's really strong music, kinda recalls his later-day 70's work. Cat/Yusuf's message on this album is beautiful, and makes it clear that he is a peaceful man:

Commercial music video for "Heaven/Where True Love Goes" also off the new album, not one of my favorites, but good:

  8. There was a very good interview with Yusuf Islam on CBC t.v. last night on the show The Hour.

    you can view it here..

    The Hour

Yusuf discusses his views on the religion he embraced back in the 70's,it clearly explains where he's coming from.

Yes, that is indeed a great interview. It shows that he, like Jimi Hendrix with the Black Panthers, has been unwillingly thrust into a position as a spokesman for Wahabbi Islam, something he clearly dislikes. What Islam needs is more people like him, who truly understand the essence of the Quran, and promote a message of peace. He did not support the fatwah against Salman Rushdie. He was asked what the sentence was in Islam for blasphemy, and he said it was execution. Did that mean he considered Rushdie's fiction blasphemy? No.

I don't like his beard though.

    No.

Ah, might as well jump. Jump!

    Go ahead and jump

    Might as well jump. Jump!

    Go ahead and jump

    Jump!

    (Guitar Solo)

    Might as well jump. Jump!

    Go ahead and jump

    Get it in, jump. Jump!

    Go ahead and jump

    Jump! Jump! Jump! Jump!

    :(

    But it's so fun!

  10. I'm going through a major Cat/Yusuf phase now.

Fuck, I'm obsessed with the two major albums, Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat, as well as his new album An Other Cup. What a freaking brilliant songwriter, singer, and even a great guitarist. He's got a really great and unique guitar playing style.

  11. I thought you used to love this song Adnan?

And I might check it out...I've never heard any of their songs.

No, I love Buckcherry, but I generally dislike this song. I actually like the music, but not the lyrics.

cheshire: on a torrent site, komodoisland.net It doesn't even say uncut till you download it.
