  1. Old Guns N Roses is like playing Nintendo 8-bits. In your head, you remember it being so good. And when you pop it in to play in 2011 - you understand that time has passed by and that there are way better games out there.

Doesn't work that way at all. This is wrong on so many levels...

For me it actually does, it´s very simple.

Everytime I see VR or Slash solo doing a show, and listening to what it sounds like - I am glad that Axl moved on from that 90:s sound, and fulfilled his vision of a professional band full of energy, not fucking up the intro chords for WTTJ (for example).

    I would rather relive:

    Hammerstein -06

    Las Vegas -01

    or Sweden, Globe arena -06

    than

    Ritz -88 for example

Again, to each their own. BUT, those shows basacally were all old gnr classics that had NOTHING to do with the band covering them. It always amazes me when people say "slash sounds old, blah, blah," Anyone that loved the real band appreciates hearing the man who gave them the sound. How did Axl move on from his sound? the best songs on CD are the ones that closely resemble his old stuff. There is not a right answer to any of these arguments. Every one has their opinion and like what they like.

  2. you took a lot of words to say that axl once fronted a band called guns n' roses and now fronts a band called guns n' roses. so essentially, you proved my point. thank you.

if you want to buy a copy of chinese democracy, where do you look? the guns n' roses section. the same section where all their albums can be found, regardless of which musicians performed on it..

you missed the whole point of the article. Yes, you can buy Chines D in the same section. The point is, that Axl is better with the original. Yes, they lost a drummer and Izzy quit. but the core (axl, slash, and duff) who were/are the faces of the band remained. Look, i am as big a gnr fan as anyone, and got to see the real thing in their biggest days. Trust me, this new band is good, but give me the original or at least the uyi line up any day. I dont recall seeing those albums in $1.00 bargin bin and best buy? Its really sad that they keep saying that they wont get back together. I just see them screwing up the whole rock and roill hall of fame thing. I can see slash and duff there, but i hope Axl gives in and gives the majority of the fans what they really want. Even if its just them playing a few old songs that night. The new band has really nothing to do with the name getting in the R&R HOF, so they shouldnt be shocked or hurt. They know!

  3. Guns N' Roses up 92% to 8% = largest differential in the entire tournament right now

    Current Upsets:

    10) Skynyrd 74% over 7) Jackson 5 26%

    10) Grateful Dead 56% over 7) NIN 44%

    Close ones:

    7) KISS 54% over 10) STP 46%

    6) Bob Marley & The Wailers 52% over 11) Beastie Boys 48%

    5) Bon Jovi 55% over 12) Dave Matthews Band 45%

thats great, but you realize the gnr that has 92% is not this gnr

  4. What city is this hockey arena in?

If i answer that, all thats going to happen is 1000000000000 calls asking the same question. i will give you a hint. its a city that loves hockey and football and are very good at both. They have one of the best rivals (at least they used too) in football. Seems like gnr always play in the other city, not here.

Do we get to guess? Is it Pittsburgh? What do you mean by

They have one of the best rivals (at least they used too) in football.
    ??

must have made that to easy. good job

  5. What city is this hockey arena in?

  6. I was out with a c0-worker last night and he was talking about his wedding. He doenst know gnr is my favorite band, so he has no reason to lie to me. He is planning a wedding in sept at a hockey arena (newer venue), another co-worker asked what was the date of his wedding. I heard him say that he did not have one yet because the date in sept he wanted this place was having a concert that night. And as of today, it was either Bruce Springstein, Bon Jovi, OR Guns? I interuppted and asked him again, THEY SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED GUNS? he said yea? Again, this is not inside info, i dont have a friend of a cousin in the business, this is just what the planner at this venue told him. I guess we will see in sept. Timing seems correct though.

  7. I actually agree with this post. I find myself wondering this as well. Gnr (original) is/was my favorite all time band. But I have to admit it, I was an 80's rocker. I still love most of those bands today. But if you think about it, wether you like those bands or not, when they do get together and tour, its always a good time and does fairly well. same with 70's bands. But after bands like peral jam, and some others mentioned here, what is left? Are people really going to care 20 years from now that nickelback or stained is getting the band back together?

  8. It is indeed scraping the barrell, but lets face it - its realistic and that is whats annoying.

Certainly no earlier than July IMO.

No way! There is no reason what so ever for july. If this thing is being mixed as we type, than June at the latest. Even if it took 1 more month (all of march--again, no reason it should) that will still give time for 1st single 4/1/07, 4 to 6 weeks promo, and out by may-june. By saying sept, we are giving it almost another year? I think they are running out of excuses. You can only keep saying legal BS for so long, than it is exactly that BS! My Lord, Notorious BIG is dead, and he is releasing an album on 3/6/07?

  9. looking at all of your topics, and reading all these comments made me wanna laugh.....

I used to be a huge GnR fan - wow...i really, really loved them. Went to many of their concerts, had always all the updates, etc... But after 1993 everything changed, and it will be like that - no matter what.

when it started back in 2002 - i was laughing, 'cause they really looked like a bunch of clowns, and when i went to the concert i was really embarrassed for them - honestly. By the way - Axl admitted that by himself to Kurt Louder on MTv, that 2002 - was a big catastrophy.

then for 4 years we could see few notes about Axl and his musicians, that pretty much nothing was going on. Then blaming Buckethead's leaving the band for the album delay... PLEASE !!!!!!!

And now when the year is almost over, when Axl started the whole process of bringing back the band to life again with concerts and empty promises, we ( i mean fans) are still with NOTHING !!!!

Here are some of mine personal thought - would like to share them with all of you, and see possible comments.

First of all - the mix of people in the band - WTF ???? Three guitar players???? Two piano players??? Why Axl didn't hire the whole orchestra?????

Glorifing Finck as the best guitar player ever.... PLEASE !!!!! Finck dosen't really know what the guitar is for, and fucked up all the guitar parts - during the summer concerts. I dont know about the new stuff, so... cant really say anything.

Second of all - all this chinese democrasy tour was a big mistake too - no mentioning the new album whatsoever - for me it was more like "greatest hits" tour, with some hints of what may happen soon, and their headline song should be - "Yesterday" - honestly, cause the words fit so good to the whole story.

Plus being at few concerts got that feeling it's too much Roses, and just few Guns left..... which is sad

And last but not least - my theory of the new album...

I think Axl want to gets closer with the releasing date to Velvet Rovolver's new album, so they can compete what is better....

Actually i can bet my ass this is gonna be so true...

Let me know what you guys think of that

    Sincerely

    I ain't the first

    dear noob,

    fuck off

    comprende?

Hey noob, how about you fuck off too? Capiche? December 14??

This dude has alot of good points, that some of you brown nosed Axl ass-kissers don't want to admit.

Last bording call for the train to 1992..

My trip should be rather short since I'm only 1 year away in 1991...though I must admit I'm not going to like the overproduced 12-person band they toured with that year...when's the train to '93 scheduled to come in?

PLEASE! Stop quoting what you hear other people say. You werent there. I love this new version, but you kids will NEVER get to experience the gnr we grew up on, and that is ashame. I seen them in Pittsburgh stadium, packed full! That "overproduced" show was the best that I have ever seen. Sure, I will admit it, Axl and this band sound tighter, his voice actually might be better, and he looks healthier. But no bootleg of these shows can ever bring the experience to you.

I was there, and you cannnot compare the bands anymore than you can compare Van Halen w/out DLR or AC/DC w/out Bon Scott. It is a different feel, yes, but who gives a shit. When I first got on this site I was kinda like you and went to the "you werent there" card as well (only I wasnt dissing the current lineup like you are). But you know what, who cares, they are different, and to them the NUGNR mght have given them the same or better vibes than we got . Sure the impact wasnt there, but these people are on this site for a reason, they love the band (most do) and you cant tell another person his passion. Bumblefoot might be someone elses Slash and you have no right to deny them that cause "you were there". I made that mistake, but after getting to know these guys, there passion is there too, albeit a bit miplaced at times :P , but there.

Sounds to me like you are stuck in the past, and that makes you incapable of the getting the vibe these new fans feel, so lay off and stop the bullshit, it makes you look shallow.

And by the way, I have seen them twice this year, and there is someting original and raw about this band like they were before, they may still create another revolution, and you will be too damn close minded too see it, jackass.

You are a fucking asshole! Or maybe you cant read? Where did I diss this band? I SAID if you like gnr than you should like whoever is in the band. Stuck in the past? I seen them in Cleveland this year and loved them, I support the old and new band. Your reply to what I said makes no sense. Show me 1 line where I diss the new band, or i am stuck in the past. Just remember, the past is why this new band is here today. Maybe before you reply, you can get someone to translate this for you.

  10. Are you for real?

What exactly were you laughing at in 2002? Buckethead looked like a clown, yes. But he's not in thet band. So who else looked like a clown?

What empty promises did Axl make to us in 2006?

And we are left with nothing??? I guess the fact that right now I'm listening to a CD that has eight leaked tracks on it, and that I just saw them in concert and it was AMAZING shows that they didn't leave ME with nothing.

Who are YOU to question who Axl hired in HIS band? Should he phone up ex-fans like yourself and get YOUR opinion on how many guitar players he should have in his band?

Fans who have seen GnR in concert are ones hailing Finck has being an awesome guitar player. NOBODY is saying he's the best ever. Why Slash fans continually accuse people of doing that is beyond me.

But saying that finck doesn't know what the guitar is for . . . just shows your ignorance.

This tour was a mistake??? Funny, great ticket sales and the majority of reviews have been excellent. How do you call that a mistake?

The only intelligent thing you say in your post is that Axl maybe waiting to release CD at the same time as VR's liberated, so the two albums can compete against each other. I actually agree with you on this. VR fans should be worried though.

Course, after Chinese Democracy blows Liberated away . . . . all we're gonna hear is "it's just cuz of the name" blah, blah, blah.

    .

Yeah! Everything he just said. My only question, why does slash always have to be brought like that? Slash Fans? Is there anyone on this board who just likes gnr? I mean, if you like gnr, than you like axl, slash, duff, adler, matt, izzy, dizzy, brain, finck, fortus, bbf, and whoever else there is. Dont compare. what are you really comparing anyway? The concert is made up mainly of old hits, slash's music, so of course he plays it better, he wrote it. But, I also like the giutar work in better and TWAT.

  12. Maybe they will do what I expected when I bought a ticket to the show.... ROCK!!! I think its awesome that my mullet full town that I moved to last year from the west coast is one of the biggest crowds of the tour. Whats up with you Americans down there??? 5000-10,000 at a show for the greatest rock bands of all time??? The wounds must run deep. Anyhow, that abooot(canada humor) does it for me. Ciao. :P

    Is that 20,000 Canadian?

  13. With the 2006 Billboard music awards tomorrow, I cant believe there is no thread "do you think axl will play?"," Do you think there will be a release date announced?" "Maybe the better add where air?". I think we all NO the answer to this already. The excitement is dying down folks, sure the concerts have been fun, but when all is said and done, what was this all for?

    it was for...

    Axl;

...doing what he loves to do, sing, perform, get laid, get pissed off, amke people feel good, rock the hell out of arenas regardless of sizs/attendance, make money and hang out with the guys etc. rock3

    Me:

..See three great shows, let my son see a rock bank for the first time (coming Dec 15th), listening to great music, watching the shows on youtube, chatting with all you guys, stealing Axl energy for my life etc.... rock3

I see no problem here. :P

P.S. If the Album comes out, more of the above rock2

What the hell kind of question was that?

I agree with you, I seen them and enjoyed them again this year, and I will again if he decides to do it all again. I was just making light of the fact that every time a major thing is happening, ie: superbowl, world series, music award shows, etc, someone always makes a thread wondering if gnr will play. The only "problem" i see, is that he calls this the chinese D. tour, and we might not get an album. I dont think there is 1 person on this board, unless they are lying, that won't feel betrayed if 2007 rolls around and we dont get an album, or an explanation from axl himself. Afterall, it was him that said it was coming, and I for one, still believe him

  15. I have to say that it's bullshit the album hasnt come out yet.. I used to be a hardcore Axl Rose fan, I always said if Axl put out a Axl rose sings christmas songs, i'd buy it just because it was him... but after '01, and now '06 and all the lies and bullshit going on with this, I have to say that i've lost faith and at this point, really don;t care... I used to come ceck this forum everyday for news, but now it's whenever I can think about it. I've come to believe that the only reason Ax; does this, is because he knows that the few loyal fans he has will pay money to see the shows and buy the merch. and join the fan clubs, he knows the media will start to pay some attention to him, get him back in a small spotlight, and he can get paid... I don;t think it's within his best intrests to release this album... after 12 years and 15 mil. later, if the CD drops and hit's like a ton of shit, who's gonna be left for any future guns concerst or albums... nobody, if it doesnt go over well, it will also show everybody, including Axl himself, that he needs the rest of the lineup, and I think these are things that Axl already poor psyche and ego cant handle... he knows that if this thing flops, he and whats left of guns n' roses will be a laughing stock in the music business, and he will have done teh very thing he claims to have wante dto prevent by having slash and company sign over the rights, so when you think about this, he has everything to lose and nothing really to gain.. aslong as he keeps showing up to shows and doing an interveiw here and there, he knows that we will keep turning up at the shows, and keep lining his pockets... all he has to do, is not finish the tour, find somebody else to blame, go into hiding for a few more years, and resurface with some throw together shit, put 'em on the net, call it a leak and do some shows.. wash rinse and repeat.. and the simple fact that he does this, is a slap in the face of every gn'r fan that ever stood by him after montreal, and after st. louis... it's a slap in the face to everybody who ever bought a gn'r CD shirt poster or anything else... and I think it's time to put a stop to it... if people stop showing up, he has nowhere to go play, I know there's 0% chance of a boycott until we get something... but thats not even the point anymore, honestly I dont even think I want anything anymore... maybe my money back on all the shit i've bought, but hell, he obviously needs it worse than I do... he doesnt respect or care about us, and if we all bought tickets and nobody showed up, he wouldnt care, aslong as he still got paid...

I could send you axl singing white christmas

  16. no artwork, no tracklist, no reviews yet - and still problems with the sanctuary group......i think there is no chance for cd this year....libertad by vr is in production-mixing status right now....

will there be a "freedom" battle in spring 2007?

You know what is sad? People were saying the same thing when VR 1st album came out. This is VR 2nd album, and Axl cant even get us a single. No reason for this!!!

  17. Hello All!

Yes, I know, not a nother new albulm thread. I have been reading alot about peoples opinions about this. Soem feel that "there is no way it can come out this year". They justify this because of promo time. I sort of agree, if this was a different band, a NORMAL band. But lets face it, Axl does not need money, I really beleive when he says he does not care about what people think, If he knows it is coming out 11/21/06, than it is coming out! That will be the promo, It will be all over the place, internet, radio, etc. I really dont think he cares if it debuts at #1. Lets face it, that is the main reason why some of the crappiest cd's debut at number one, they push it down our throats for weeks before it comes out, than everyone runs and buys it. When this albulm drops, I really believe the music will speak for itself. There are people who HATE axl, so no matter how good the music is, they are going to say it sucks. Fuck them! I beleive this choice 1. Now for #2, This is the 1st time axl himself said it was coming out this year. If, for some reason, this cant happen, Then PLEASE axl, Make a statement before the yrar is up. Just Tell the fans why, most of us are forgiving, shit we have stuck with you through 14 years of nothing. But, YOU said it was coming out this year. If 2007 comes, and we get know album or no explantion for something you promised, than you really dont give a shit about gnr or the fans.

    Lol.. are you from IOWA?

    Why?

Guns N' Roses Rocks, Infuriates In Jacksonville

    Jeff Vrabel, Jacksonville, Fla.

Even on a sticky Halloween night in Florida, with much of the crowd in costume and spooky holiday decor swinging from the rafters, nothing could quite out-weird the main spectacle: watching 1/8th of Guns N' Roses perform a batch of 20-year-old smashes -- as well as a few from a record originally slated for release during the first Clinton administration -- in front of, among other things, a large and inflatable Homer Simpson balloon.

Welcome to the jungle, kids. We've got fun and games.

Or, more accurately, welcome to whatever this is. Well, what do you call this ragged Frankenstein's monster of a band these days: GNR of the 21st Century? Guns Minus Everyone But Axl? The GNR Experience Feat. Mr. Rose And His Band Of Merry Pranksters? Or, in a time when nostalgia rock is about the only safe bet, when Queen can tour without Freddie and half of the Who is one of the biggest games in town, is 2006 Guns N' Roses merely another case of Hardly Authentic But Good Enough?

Needless to say, one puts up with a lot in catching the remnants of GNR these days (to be fair, it's actually 1/4th of the classic lineup, if you count keyboardist Dizzy Reed). There's the wacky stage time (a classically Rose-ian midnight on a Tuesday), the wearying wait for an alleged new record and the small matter of all the Guns exiles who don't come around anymore.

But maybe the strangest thing is that for all its some-assembly-required vibe, Rose's band knows how to tear up an arena show. Sure, these are hired hands, and Slash would be pleased to know that Rose requires three guitarists to replace/recreate him: ex NIN-ster Robin Finck, now a dead ringer for Matisyahu; journeyman Richard Fortus; and, replacing Buckethead, Ron Thal, who goes by Bumblefoot. You can't make this stuff up. But these guys bring the noise.

Moreover, Rose, impossibly, frustratingly, remains as galvanizingly watchable a frontman as you're likely to find anywhere. The charisma? Enviably intact. The vocals? Strained, but often thrilling. The drive is back, too -- sometime between Guns' aborted 2002 run and today, Rose relocated his give-a-damn, and he prowls the stage with an intensity and ambition that sometimes outweighs his reach, but is crazy to witness. When he's on and his voice is doing age-defying triple salchows on "Welcome to the Jungle" and "It's So Easy," he's cornrowed lightning.

And for about half of the two-hour set, that's all you really need. Tracks like "Jungle," "Mr. Brownstone" and even "Live and Let Die" are meteor impacts -- so much so, in fact, that Rose adhered almost exclusively to songs from about 1987. This night, he was solely interested in the most glorious of the glory days, bringing out the big, boozy, misogynistic WMDs from "Appetite" ("Nightrain," "Out Ta Get Me," "My Michelle") -- and only invited songs from the "Use Your Illusion" discs that originated in the "Appetite" era, like "November Rain" and "You Could Be Mine." He's consciously blacking out a decent chunk of catalog here.

But all the grand setup leads into a weird payoff. Because after a massive opening salvo, reality begins to creep in with "Better," allegedly the first single from the new album (the expensive-looking Eastern backdrop indicated Rose remains apparently serious about this "Chinese Democracy" thing). Chunky riffs aside, "Better," charitably speaking, ain't no "Brownstone." And due to lots of things -- that inhospitable stage time (for which a smirking Rose denied credit), his penchant for vanishing from the stage for long stretches (though it added to his enigmatic legacy, one begins to wonder if he's really up to this) and pacing issues, the show begins to grow cold and distant, despite the valiant efforts of its frontman.

Oh, and this keeps coming up, too: Who the hell are these people?

Rose's minions are dressed like a ragtag pomo art outfit: keyboardist Chris Pittman's in an ivory-white suit, Tommy Stinson rocks plaid pants, and Bumblefoot has the name Bumblefoot. All have creative Tomorrowland haircuts (it was hard to tell what was a Halloween costume and what wasn't). But Rose has them faithfully recycle songs and solos as recorded by another guy 20 years ago. He takes great pains to project a vibe of forward-thinking, then consents to a jarring cameo by cornball Sebastian Bach, who in his opening set performs a song called "Love Is a Bitch Slap" to emphasize all you don't miss about buttless-chaps metal.

He adheres to a schedule of L.A. rock club ethics that doesn't so much apply in Jacksonville early in the week. And he grants all three guitarists interminable, momentum-killing solos; Fortus used his to jam on Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful," and you weren't sure what his intentions were, much like you're not sure what Rose's are.

Axl is capable of transcendent power: "Paradise City" seethed and roared, "You Could Be Mine" worked up a mighty head of steam and if there's a better way to open a rock show than with "Welcome to the Jungle," someone E-mail me about it. And Rose seemed to be alternately salivating at and resentful of the challenge of carrying this load on his shoulders.

But to what end? In the sense that anticipation is generally better than the experience (I'm looking at you, god-awful "Star Wars" prequels), the mystique of Rose's alleged "Democracy," if you're not bored of the entire episode in the first place, will spot-evaporate the day it's released. One wonders if Rose wouldn't be better served to leave it in the can until he's 60 and then bingo, it's "Smile."

In those glory days, Guns N' Roses was just about as good it got. But its hole card now is an album that might not exist, and once "Democracy" rises and falls, Guns N' Roses, which can now maintain a spooky sense of mystery, will be very likely trading the night train for the nostalgia train, whoever the hell's in it. But in the meantime, GNR still can rock your night, or early morning, with a primal power. Just bring a friend to help carry along the baggage.

They are all going to read like this until Axl realizes how stupid this is. Example, Better is a great song, but when 90% of the people are hearing it for the 1st time and it is live, of course it is not going to get great reviews. Bu I know, "axl owes me nothing", "axl does what he wants", blah blah blah. Oh, i forgot "I am not a REAL fan now"
