  1. STP pre-Thank You/Greatest Hits were incredible. Family Values Tour 2001 was my first time seeing them, great show. One of my favorite concerts ever was STP's 2002, in a small-ish venue. I was up close to the rail, and Scott just ruled the stage. Seeing that band with that energy in an intimate setting was unrivaled. I got into them as Sour Girl was getting played on the radio. I really dug No 4 and Shangri-La Dee Da.

I skipped my junior prom to go see Velvet Revolver in 2005 - worth it. Scott and Slash did Wish You Were Here - amazing. And yeah I really dug his It's So Easy. VR actually replaced Maiden on the Ozzfest show I went to that year too. Fun times.

I was at a Tampa stop on STP's "reunion" tour in 2008...and the band never played. I left the venue saying "f that junkie" out of bitterness.

I laat saw STP/Scott two years later. Scott had less energy, seemed mellowed out. I had hoped it was part of him being sober.

    Tonight I'm just really sad.

  2. Yes but what about this:

Midnight release on cassette and laserdisc at Tower Records and Sears

    Side 1

    Thyme (feat Slash updated talkbox)

The General (Alice Cooper on bass)

    Chinese Democracy (Brain remix)

    Side 2

Mama Kin (feat Jimmy Page on sub bass)

    Chris Pittmans drum solo

    Oklahoma

I mean, we can all agree that this is the absolute winner. We're talking Grammy-winning, always on mtv, world tour level.

All that's missing is the Nas collaboration

  3. The writer did what he set out to do, got people talking, so credit where credit's due.

As far as his attachment to CD, he's an Axl loyalist. Cool for him.

All his drivel about the commitment to the music is just one eye roll after another for me. Axl has rotated a cast of hired guns (no pun intended) ever since he broke up the Illusion era lineup. He has used the AFD/UYL hits for almost 20 years to stay relevant, everything from the VMAs performance to the Appetite for Democracy residency.

For someone like me, born in 1987, my choices to hear Appetite/Illusion songs in person by someone who played on the recording have been:

    Axl with NuGNR

Slash, Duff and Matt with Scott Weiland

    Slash w/ Myles

    Adler's Appetite

The writer had, oh lord knows how many, chances to go see Chinese Democracy songs performed live by Axl&NuGNR, they've been touring the damn thing since 2002. And you want to cry about a nostalgia tour? Give me a f---ing break.

  4. I was born in 87, got turned onto AFD sometimes before the VMA 2002 thing, because I know I was really excited for the new GNR that night.

My only GNR show I've seen was 2006, no Bucket, but Finck and Bumble. I was happy I got to hear Axl sing the classics, though I considered Velvet Revolver the superior concert experience. Leading up to 2008, I followed the pre-CD rumor mill. Rumors, leaks, demos - I love that shit.

To me the CD era is: Vegas/Rock in Rio 2001 shows, MTV VMAs, 2002 tour, the 2006-2007 tours, a platinum album, more touring (2009-2012), Vegas residencies (2012, 2014) - that's really impressive for one commercial release of 14 songs.

If Axl closes the book on Chinese Democracy, you can't say it's premature.

  5. Right. Now. I've ignored a lot of reunion threads. But one thing comes to mind. Is it just me, or does common sense dictate that a reunion tour is actually incredibly stupid? Ask yourself how likely this conversation is:

Axl: Wow dude, I've been so fucking pissed at you for years.

    Slash: Yeah dude, me too.

Axl: So, I mean. Burying the hatchet is nice. I'm not sure if you can even call it rekindling a friendship yet, but it's nice.

Slash: Totally. It's fragile, but it's a nice start.

Axl: Totally. So, I know your career is going fairly nice and all. But I'm sort of done with this new GnR deal. Let's be honest, DJ is a colossal asshat.

    Slash: lol! He is.

Axl: So, you want to put this fragile new relationship on the line right away by putting ourselves back in a stressfull touring enviroment right away?

Slash: Totally! And if that doesn't ruin everything, we can always try to record another album.

Axl: lol! We can have it ready by 2028! Soon is the word!

    Slash: lol!

It got locked, but there's a thread a few down from this one that lays out the timeline of a slow thaw.

Obviously a collaborative effort seems like a reach given their past.

But touring? It's not ridiculous. The Police did it, and they hate each other. Van Halen functions in a similar fashion, EVH and DLR are distant off stage.

Slash can travel completely separate, have his own staff come and get him from his own dressing room every night.

Agreeing to it and getting through rehearsal are the biggest obstacles IMO. On stage, Slash and Axl are two musicians playing music. Professional performers have a way of becoming different people on stage. As most people know, Aerosmith have had a rocky 5-6 years with Steven Tyler. On stage, they're all best of buds as I saw in Vegas in August.

This tour would make so much money, the band can spend so much on transportation and staff they can insure minimal contact between Axl and Slash, and control the opportunities for tempers to flare.
