I also think Richard does a bit of playing on one of the “BH-esque” solo parts- it reminded me a bit of how he sounds on Nightrain live.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I listened to this version for the second time. You mean the second, more melodic part of the solo, right? They've been sharing solos on Absurd, so maybe they've done the same here? That second part of the solo just isn't really the style that I would know from Slash. I guess we'll get an answer as soon as they perform the song live...

  2. I listened to this song before checking out the forum (wisely, I might add!) and was a bit let down that they replaced Josh's killer drumming on this one with some generic drumming by Frank. I mean, Frank is a cool dude n stuff, I like the guy, but that's really what stood out the most for me listening to the released version. And then I come here to the forum and people actually wonder who's drumming on this one ... never gets old

It’s not just that though. The placement of the vocal track in verses 1 & 2 sounds like it’s been pasted in the wrong place over the music too. Even if I hadn’t heard previous versions I’d still think the ‘screaming fucking banshee’ line comes in too early.

That's because the banshee part really was pasted in the wrong place in the 1st and 2nd verse. This is an obvious mistake, because live Axl has the timing right and always sings it like in verse 3. Okay, some might want to point out now that Axl has had so many timing issues over the past years, but the only timing issues here are with the copy/paste job in the released version. Some tech guy screwed up...

This still boggles my mind. First single in more than 2 years, featured in the year's biggest movie, featuring Arnie in the music video, released right in the middle of a successful tour, etc.

I know YCBM isn't the most radio friendly song but you would think with all that momentum it would break the top 20 at least. Summer '91 wasn't a strong time for music either...not a lot of 'superstars' released singles until later that year.

Just for the record: Only the US, Canada and Japan didn't seem to like You Could Be Mine. It's been a top ten hit in many other countries including Germany (#5) and the UK (#3). Knockin' On Heaven's Door even made it to #2 in the UK. In fact, 6 singles made it into the UK's top ten, only Civil War failed to do so at #11. It was simply not an easy time for rock music in the US back then, as far as I remember. Unless you kept it simple...

  5. If only there were better clips on youtube available for these two songs. There used to be so many live videos while they were on tour, but hardly any stuff shows up for these Las Vegas shows. Especially clips that are NOT Welcome To The Jungle and Girls Girls Girls. So since this appreciation thread got already started, it would be a good place to gather any of those rare live videos with hopefully good audio quality. Now THAT would be APPRECIATED ;)

  6. Ah, well ... since it's the US, they should have given the Cyborg a shotgun and have the woman's brain splattered all over the fence instead - that would have been no problem. Yay weapon violence! But anything that's sex-related in any way? BAN! BAN! BAN! Weird nation ...

  7. What these fools don't understand: Slash back in GN'R wouldn't give us better new music! Slash was only the guy who did the solos. Just listen to everything he has ever done since quitting GN'R. Not a single song to remember ...

Bring back Izzy and Robin - and Duff, if you may. Oh, let's not forget about Brain, of course. But I just don't see any need for Slash ... he's easily replaceable. THERE! I SAID IT!!! WHOOHOO!!! :takethat:

  8. I thought Robin was fired by Azoff to try and force Axl into a reunion or was that just a tall tale?

That's what I've also read. But I'm not sure who the source was. I believe I remember, but I don't want to start yet another internet rumor by saying "I believe it was person X" and 3 postings later it's "A.J. said it was person X" without the believe-part ... and then another 3 postings later it's "person X said" and if "my believe" is wrong ... well ... you know what I'm getting at. It's how internet rumors work ...

Basically, from what I've read about the time from Robin's departure to the time when the band went back on tour with DJ, I would think that the big hold up really had nothing to do with the band, but with "business people in the background". And yes, Azoff was not a band member, neither were the guys at the record label ;)

  9. A few factors? Who showed up on stage who's not a current member of the band? We're still waiting for Lars Ullrich's signature so we can finally see the Better video, don't we? Or didn't Lars already sign his stuff? Well, in any case ... shouldn't take longer than two weeks or so ...
