  1. I have to say, I made the HUGE mistake of arriving at the arena around 9pm last night.  Still on NYC time and by the time the show started, I was sort of beat.  First hour I was good, having fun, but the last hour I was beyond tired.  Still had a blast, but I made the rookie mistake:  I waited on my feet for hours.  God I wish I had a seat.  Tonight, I"m just going to hang near the back of GA, arrive around 11:30 and enjoy the show more.  Constantly getting pushed for 3 hours, being on my feet for 6+ hours, it's just no fun. IMHO.

Not a fan for the most part.

CD was the best of the bunch IMO. I didn't like how Slash kept going with the main riff under the verse, I thought it all sounded too similar - would've preferred Fortus doing BBF's riffing, or just the synths like in 2001. Otherwise no complaints here though, Slash's solo was fine, and the intro sounded fucking mean with him on that riff. Probably the heaviest version of CD yet.

TIL did absolutely nothing for me, I thought Slash's solo was awful. It was like one long run-on thought, it had no direction and was just pure noodling. I'll give him a few shows to try and come up with his own take on it, but so far I'm not impressed. Bring on the flamers, but I thought it was almost as bad as one of the better Ashba TIL solos.

Better was...eh. Again, nothing but noodling on the outro solo, not a fan when Robin essentially wrote the perfect solo for it. I didn't like the new intro either, I always dug that poppy vibe of the original intro. Other than those two complaints I thought it was okay though.

100% agree there. The short leads on SCOM sounded fresher than they have in years, from either GN'R or the Conspirators.

You guys need to stop analyzing these songs in a vacuum.  At the show, like WHEN YOU ARE THERE, everything sounded great.  These guys are playing for the crowd in front of them, not the youtube critics.  It's rock n roll and it sounded awesome.  Every. Song.

  3. You guys are crazy.  Was at the show last night.  He sounded AMAZING.  Every think someone's voice doesn't sound epic when you're recording the audio using shitty cell phones?  Also, remember, Axl couldn't go backstage and get his oxygen like he normally does due to be stuck in the chair.  He did go backstage some, but couldn't do it mid song, like during estranged.

  4. To be honest, I am having a hard time getting excited about the reunion.  Maybe it's because it doesn't seem real yet.  I have one hope.  That Axl is in shape and puts on shows worthy of this band's legacy.  I think he will.

I'm glad some of the newer fans who never got to see GNR back in the day will once again experience the magic Axl and Slash bring to a show.  Course it will never be as good as it once was, but this time it actually means more to all parties involved.  So that's great.

I hope everyone has a great time and I hope to hang with you guys out in Vegas and in NYC.  Much love,

The original post of the thread claims they turned down the opportunity to work together for a marketing program, which sounds like an obvious opportunity to make additional money, so there's one example. Another thread here that caused hand-wringing was about the lack of any sort of press conference or promotional spots. I know people would like to see the big sponsored press conference (that the band would be paid handsomely for) like Van Halen did where Eddie planted a big wet kiss on DLR, but again that's another example of the band letting this reunion happen organically rather than forcing the issue for money.

I've been one of Axl's harshest critics over the last 10 or so years that I've been on this site, and I know if they did that phony press conference "let's show everyone how much we like each other" deal I would be on here ranting about how fake it looked, along with probably tons of other MyGNR posters. It's a no-win situation in a lot of ways. If you stay in the dark, keep their friendship private and let the music do the talking, it's because they hate each other. If they pimp the hell out of this thing, go on every talk show and get everything sponsored and paid for, it's because they're only out for the money.

Look - the money is what it is. It's what the marketplace says they are worth and I don't expect anyone to take less money than they are worth to do something they excel at. Would you take half your proposed salary to help your co-workers get paid more? I sure as hell wouldn't.

The big money is there now, it was there five years ago and it was there 10 years ago. So why now? I genuinely think it's because they have patched up their differences. If it was solely for the money, this would have happened years ago. To me, the money and personal relationship go together. Axl and Slash aren't going to put their pride aside and get together just for money, but on the other hand they certainly aren't going to make amends, and decide to go on a cheap charity tour. I truly believe they patched up their differences, want to play together again, and want to get paid well to do so. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Let me just clarify something really important.  What we were working on didn't require the band at all.  We were going to make some really incredible limited edition versions of something to celebrate this historic moment.  We weren't asking for Axl.  We weren't asking for Slash.  We were told not to expect their participation in anything.  It's just sad that we never heard back from the GN'R camp on the program.  Trust me, you guys would have been going bonkers to get your hands on what we had in store.

So while it may seem "cool" to just blow off brand support, and that's GN'R being GN'R...it's the fans who ultimately suffer when these things die.   I don't even think Axl or Slash even know about this type of stuff.  They probably don't care.  And that's cool.  But I just wish there were more professionals surrounding them who could ink the right deals to give these guys the hype they deserve and the fans the recognition they deserve.   This was 100% for the fans.

Guys let's face it, as fans of GN'R, we deserve it after all these years.

i wouldn't doubt that each of those statements have some merit to them, but i don't believe for a second that 'GNR management' would just tell you that. sounds totally ridiculous tbh.

I think you guys don't realize GN'R management extends beyond team Brazil.  There are publicists/agents who handle each of these guys.  Those people work with brands, it's not always team Brazil.

it's all part of the drama that's carefully being orchestrated, people!

chaos, betrayal, mayham... it's all part of the package.

or did you expect Axl, slash and Duff guest appearing at some lame ass talk show and answer awkward questions like we're all one crazy big family? get a grip.

Expect Axl to be pissed and late on stage, insulting random crowd member with an ashba t shirt, and generally acting his character, and the others having no clue what's happening.

    it will be fun.

You're 100% wrong.  Nothing is orchestrated here.  People always think there's some master plan unfolding and we're witnessing it in action.  The only plan is this:  we don't give a shit.  And that's why we love GN'R, but it's also why things will never come close to being as epic as they could if they did give more.  I still feel the amazing music on Chinese D was met with apathy simply because the band didn't promote it or market it at all.  Seemed like they didn't care so fans didn't care.

Driving in my car listening to Chinese D, the song, and man that song HITS SO FUCKING HARD it should be a huge hit.  It wasn't.  Why? Because they never promoted it properly.  Same with Better, Prostitute, etc.

    Bullshit.

Kaneda, this isn't the first time you've claimed to have inside info and you've proven unreliable in the past.

What have I been wrong about in the past?  Last time I checked I actually got GN'R more press than anybody else out there.  So don't question my love of this band and wanting to see them get the hype right this time around.   If I could, I would forward you the deck with the coolest ideas that would have blown people away.  Major brand, major limited edition item that fans would have gone CRAZY for.  Why would I lie about this?

And yes, the mood from people involved is that everyone is talking through intermediaries.
