  1. Please release it in December Axl!

Seriously? We've been waiting for 13 years and you want it pushed back? Does it really matter if it debuts at #1? No. It doesn't. Yea it would be cool, and yes, I do think it will happen. But you don't judge an album based upon it's debut spot or number of first week sales. Overall longevity measures success. I could easily see CD starting out a little slow, generally speaking, and building momentum as more and more people are introduced to the new line-up and newer sound and singles (hopefully fucking SOON!!!!!) get radio and TV play. This album will sell, and most likely based upon the songs that we've heard, will sell a few million copies, whether it's released in November of December. Me, I'm banking on ASAP, cause I'm tired of waiting and I want this album!!!! Let's go AXL... give us something more! rock3

  2. Estranged- the song where Axl told us he knew the band was breaking up

'i know i'll never be able to replace you- i guess i'll have to make it through-this time, without you. I know the storm was gettin closer and all my friends said i was high- but everything we've ever known here, i never wanted it to die'

    Kinda sad when you listen.

yea for sure, i wonder if the rest of the band knew about that message?

Honestly, who really wants the NR intro to be the basis of a new song??? That's old, that's repetitive, that's uncreative, and def not Axl. He's got plenty of new melodies i'm sure, that will go great with his lyrics and he'll have another hit piano ballad. But no recycling of material... that just reaks of hip-hop. Stay original Axl.

i thought this at first but we are actually talking about one of axl's warm up songs to NR not the actual intro.

i'm well aware of that... but enough people know the melody... whether it's just a warm-up for NR LIVE or for any other song, i'm pretty sure GNR can come up with new material...

    ...

Cat got your tongue? Or you just still thinking it over... :P

  3. I think, There Was A Time, is not really an epic. For me it's more a rocker.

And Catcher in the rye...hmm also not really an epic for me. More a ballad. ;)

I def think Madagascar is the only epic we've heard so far... the only over-powering, 20 different types of instruments, over the top new song. CITR and TWAT are both more of "rocker" type, although not as hard-edged as better, irs, or CD. All good songs though, love'um all. Can't wait to hear the rest. Come on November 21st!!!

    Good:

    Chinese Democracy

    Madagascar

    Oh My God

    IRS

    Better

    Catcher in the Rye

    OK:

    TWAT

    CHEESY AS FUCK:

    The Blues

How any of you think the Blues is a good songs is beyond me. I thought I was being biased toward the old sound so I let my girlfriend listen to it, cuz I thought "Maybe its a chick song," and within the first 30 seconds she said she thought it sucked the big one. I hadn't told her what I thought of it beforehand. In case you think shes a hater, she really likes IRS and Better.

The Blues has a great melody and feel. I love The Blues. I like it better than CD or IRS... i just have a hard time picturing the Internal Revenue Service as the basis for a rock song. But if anyone can pull if off, GNR can. I still hate the industrial sound though, which is why i'm so glad that Oh My God won't be on the new album. It works for other bands, but it's not GNR. The Blues is GNR... reminds me of Yesterdays and 14 Years off UYII. More people will buy the album if it sounds like GNR, not if it sounds like NIN.

  4. Honestly, who really wants the NR intro to be the basis of a new song??? That's old, that's repetitive, that's uncreative, and def not Axl. 5. Nah, GNR was on top of the world when UYI's came out. There is anticipation now for CD, but not nearly as on the same scale as back in '91. However, CD still has grown to almost mythic proportions with all the delays and hype, so for us hardcore fans, i'm sure it's on the same level. It's just not the same with the general public. I can't fuckin' wait though! :)

  6. MADAGASCAR-Has nothin to do with Rock and Roll and its just a poor song wich people outside the die-hard fans will find week and nothin moore. Remember that members here have heard that song in almost 5 years, but most people arent like us. I hope its not on the record

THE BLUES- 2001 version is very good and a real GNR song. (could easily have fit into the use your illusion era). The 06 version is a disaster, but if they put the 01 version on it will be quite good. I hope its on the record.

CHINESE DEMOCRACY-OK song, but not revolutionary. Dont belong to a really good record. The song is a little bit to simple but ok. I hope its dont on the record.

IRS -Some of the good old sound in this song. Absolutely a good song. But i hope its a little bit faster when the finally version is out. I hope its on the record.

BETTER-Good song with a big potential. Would be great if the intro/outro has changed. If the demo is the finally version, ill be thinkin: this could have been so much better. I hope its on the record if the intro is changed.

TWAT-One of Axls favoruites. But maybe one of the worst new songs. Boring and all thos minutes with just guitar playing is to much if people should like this song. This song is dead meet to me, has realy low potential. Should not be on the record what so ever.

CATCHER IN THE RYE- Very good song with alot of good parts and awesome guitar work. This song is also something that could fit in to the illusion days. I Hope it will be on the record.

SILKWORMS,RHIAD and OH MY GOD- oh my god is ok, but not great. The other ones is not good enough to be on the record.

Remember that the public hasnt heard the material like us.......

    Thoughts?rock3

How can you like Oh My God better than Madagascar? Madagascar has been out there awhile but still has the potential to be the biggest song off this album. When I first heard it 5 years ago, the first thoughts that went through my head were it sounds like something off the UYI... it's got the whole bigger than life sound, the string instruments, good lyrics, Axl wailing. Oh My God doesn't sound like GNR, it sounds like a NIN song... but a lot worse than NIN. Shouldn't have been released. Hope to God its not on the album.

Love The Blues, TWAT, Catcher, IRS... should be a good album no matter what.

  7. No, I'm pretty worried in a selfish sort of way. I'm sure Axl's ballads will sell the album but I'm worried that the variety of tracks won't keep me coming back for more. Like with UYI theres different songs for all states of mind like You Ain't the First can be funny when you feel up tight. But so far all the CD tracks seem to be about isolation and being misunderstood. It could be heavy going if you ask me. Imagine slogging through The Blues, Madagascar and TWAT on one side of an LP with the only breaks being IRS and Chinese Democracy. I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

With all due respect, we've only heard perhaps half of the new album. Who knows what else they are bringing to the table, so to speak. We don't even know if all of the songs we've heard lately are even going to be included on Chinese Democracy!!!! No matter what, they are going to be Top 10 singles on the album. The GNR name is so big and the rock landscape so barren right now that, i think they would actually have to TRY to not have atleast one hit on the album. :)

  8. In the video for the making of Estranged, the band talks about how difficult it is to play live. I am not sure where I read this and it may not be correct, but I believe that the new band is not up to playing it.

Totally agree. The song is so long with so many parts to it, playing it live must be a real task. These new guys can practice songs all they want, but unfortunately they won't be able to play them as well as the original members because they weren't involved in the creation of the songs. They weren't there for the making of the song, the redoing, the rewriting, and all the stresses that deal with making a song. I'm not saying the new guys are inferior muscians, but it takes a lot to learn a song, especially one you didn't compose and one as complex as Estranged, i just think they don't really want to mess up playing it.

I def wouldn't mind hearing it again though! :D

  9. To me They are:

1.WTTJ (Killed glam metal and redefined rock. also gave them their image)

2.SCOM(The riff, solo and lyrics. Legendary song)

    3.November Rain(Made GNR Mainstream)

Sweet Child is the song that made them mainstream. It is still their only #1 single. AFD was out for like an entire year and was doing alright, something like 100,000 copies or so if i remember, until they released Sweet Child as a single. It sky-rocketed up the charts and then the band re-released Welcome to the Jungle as a single and then AFD took off. 15 million albums sold is mainstream, i don't care who you are. That's a shitload of albums. November Rain just epitomized the direction that Axl wanted to take GNR, the long-ass, epic, ballads with more instruments than you can possibly name... or hear. I love it though, great sound.

Sweet Child, Welcome to the Jungle, and Paradise City...

    (Glory, Glory Man United) :)

  10. Rocket Queen and November Rain kick Paradise City's arse in terms of outros. Rocket Queen especially.

Abso-fucking-lutely. Rocket Queen has BY FAR the best ending of any song, let alone any GNR song. It gets me more fired up than any other, plus you just want to sing to it. Real nice. rock2

  11. Chinese Democracy def has a killer riff, but I just think it's missing a little something to put it over the top... can't quite put my finger on exactly what that is though  It's got a real hard rock sound, but the way Axl sings it is a little soft. I think he needs to break out his "Devil Woman" voice and really let rip, ya know. Like get a real badass few lines and just belt them out as loud and high as he can near the end of the song. Something like that would add the little extra to this song that I think would make it a great opener and single.

P.S. - Check out the article on Axl in September's issue of GQ, with Clive Owen on the front. It's pretty sick, and gives a great look into who Axl is, where he came from, and the supposed demons he's been battling over his life and how that has affected him. Real good article, insightful as well.

That's all. Peace out bitches!!!!!!!! :P

  12. AFD - Definately Rocket Queen and Think About You... (Sweet Child is still the greatest rock love song of the last 20 years)

UYI 1 - Big fan of the opener, Right Next Door to Hell

UYI 2 - Yesterdays is one of their best songs... simple, lyrically deep, great rhythm and flow, and catchy chorus... gotta love Breakdown and Locomotive too

TSI - Their version of Nazareth's Hair of the Dog is most likely my favorite GNR cover song

CD leaks - Gotta go with the The Blues, although a lot of people forget how good Madagascar is since it's been around for awhile. I remember watching the MTV awards in 2002, and even though it really wasn't the best performance, when they broke into Madagascar and revealed a new GNR song to the world (let's be honest, Oh My God doesn't count, it blows as does industrial rock that it resembled) I was all fired up. Definately reminded me of Use Your Illusion material and i still eagerly await Chinese Democracy's release... a few more months and a few more hits I hope!

  13. I didn't see people bitch'in when slash and gilby covered "wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones so why bitch now. Its a cover, get over it. Its not like there gonna change guns into the next Hanson LOL. Didn't GNR Cover "Come Together" by the beatles?????

Of course they cover songs. All bands cover songs. I bet like a third of GNR songs are covers. Anyone ever hear of The Spaghetti Incident? All covers guys. Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Live and Let Die, Hair of the Dog... all covers. They cover a lot of shit... but they make it sound sick. I'm sure it couldn't have been that bad... although I'm sure Slash and Izzy woulda done a helluva a number on it. Oh well, one can dream! As long as Axl is screechin', I'll be listening
