Yeah, but we all know by now CD is a bunch of mashed up riffs and ideas from many sessions... some parts sound very Slash-y. Robin did a really good job recreating the vibe if I'm wrong.

Maybe Axl took some riffs from those sessions.

    We'll never know.

I wonder if the tapes from those days will ever be heard by anyone again.

they probably got tied up in some legal mumbo jumbo. they could revisit them now that they are back together.

Guys, just so you know, 2 more CD's have leaked... just songs we already know, have and have been released. Still cool.

These clips are interesting, even with scratch vocals Quick song sounds so much more interesting.

After listening to it many more times, I'm convinced that Quick song was at least started in the 95/96 sessions.

Slash would know better than to recycle a Nirvana riff especially when Axl's got Zakk Wylde in the studio.
Doubt that Slash + Zakk = Teen Spirit.

Musically it slightly reminds me of "One Second" era Paradise Lost.

Lyrically it's absolutely bizarre stuff though. Definitely has that mid 90s U2 vibe also.

I see talkin bout my fav. paradise lost album... I press like. Nice connection! The rhitm does remind. Although that album is a melodical masterpiece, and PL in general.

Funny though... fake "7" leak was a mesh of buckethead on top of .host song... and could have fooled people for being new GNR.. and now that u mention it... some songs do lean toward PL sound a lot.

I find it hilarious that a song that I loathed in clip form became my favourite over songs that I've been desperately waiting 15 years to hear.

That was literally the worst 10 seconds the hoarders could have used to represent the song, especially if they were trying to sell it. It sounded like some random YT fake.

y... but I hate the inconsistency of some of the songs. Its like they have a NU metal template, when 1 guy sings, and other one raps... and you cant wait to get him over with the rapping part.

same with some CD songs... it has a part thats magnificent, and then some mumble part drops and you're like "not this again".

have same problem with first 2 mins of TWAT (I just skip em)

or all the "laugh in my face - Oh yaeh" part of prostitue... it just cringes me. while the fortune and fame part is awsome.

its like they were... "we have an excelent 4 min song... lets make it 6..." pastes some random stuff in there.

It has the same runtime as listed on the discs, minus the silence, and it was leaked on Evo by "The King".

I like this instrumental the most of all CD stuff. Most progressive so far. The guitars are amazing. Only TWAT comes close.
could be either Buckethead or Finck, although the general feel is buckethead, could be done by Finck as well.

Damn this thing is gonna be a monster.

Agreed. They spent too much time polishing turd songs pre-Bucket rather than building the band from Bucket onward.

They should've deleted pre-Bucket rockers such as IRS, Chinese Democracy, Rhiad, etc. Keep some of the Axl ballads and mid-tempo songs

axl just should have sang over older buckethead songs. why reinvent the wheel :) take BH catalogue, pick a rif.. sing.

I don't think this song was meant to be taken too seriously, it could've been a 3rd or 4th track on a CD single in the early 2000's, or maybe included on the 2010 remix album. But it's not an 'album track'. Kinda fits with what Axl said in 2002 - "You'll get about 18 tracks, and 10 bonus tracks".

I think the 10 bonus track were ment to be Brain/BBF leaks,... remixes of released songs.

So what are we in your opinion supposed to get past in order to enjoy Eye On You?

give it a benefit of a doubt. Listen to it for a few days, let it settle in. Maybe listen to Neil Young a bit if you didnt. Just dont burry it before giving it a proper chance. IMO its a great somber song. It daws from a lot of other GNR songs. Maybe I just listened to to many "doomy" bands, so I already had my playing field leveld... IDK.

but if I were to narrow down the DNA of this song, it would be Type O Negative, Vast, and Neil Young. Basically if you like these bands... EOU would appeal naturally. BTW, did you like IRS and If the world? Since the song vocals are similar to IRS vocals, but much more fluid. While the music is similar to IRS, but also... much smoother, and I feel like the voice/instruments are far better aligned with each other.

while typing I figured out how best to express my self: my enthusiasm is not not about the song as a song... but the breakthrough they've achieved in terms of voice/instrument synergy.

Its a completely new experience and a "framework" for Axls voice. This song makes his voice shine in a completely new light. Its like hearing Axl again for the first time. Only few GNR songs have put a completely new "Scenary" or a "Backdrop" for Axls voice. And this is one of those few... and most importantly, that "scenary" blends perfectly... and makes it sound even more awsome. The soung could be 10 seconds long for all I care... and I'd keep it on repeat. Everything else is a bonus! And they pulled it off through the whole song.

People are focusing on details... (the dady thing)... for me, its like commenting the keychain of a brand new Ferrari.

its interesting for me to be so into this song, since I found things to nitpick on many CD era songs... but find this one completely flawless... and by the looks of the comments... ppl hate the guts out of it.

this and the rio rain desaster were the worst gnr gigs in history. you can't go more mickey mouse than this.

That's my point. You can mind the vocals, but it's still a great song. If you like Neil you will like this as well. Even if I were to sing it, and it sounded like complete trash, you could dislike my performance, but not the song

The higher ups actually were not wrong. From 95’ to 99’ Axl didn’t have it. The music was not there. I’m actually quite surprised. I really thought he was sitting on some amazing material that he didn’t want to let go of but reality was he seemed to be all over the place and was forcing what little he had into pieces that just wasn’t good. I’d say Chinese Democracy had four songs that were terrible and another four that were epic and the rest were meh. From all of these unreleased songs, none so far have even been decent, maybe with the exception of the Axl/Tommy tune but even that is sub par as a whole.

He didn't have a band most of the time in that period. Slash left in 96, duff ODd in 97. Duff at some point reported they had 1200 h worth of recording back then.(probably locked in some vault).

Matt and Axl found Robin and Tommy at about 97. Took a while for the chemistry to set in. After that Matt was sacked, so you have no drummer till 99...

So even had he had the songs, half of the time he didn't have people to play them. Axl was even said back then to playing the guitar on his own for lack of a guitarist. (Rir3 madagascar)

You can see the explosion in quality and number of songs in 2000 when the lineup got fixed.

To bad bucket left in 2004, because by that time the band had chemistry and  everyone had learned his role. 2003-04 material if exists must have been the best the new band had to offer. I doubt many new songs were made until ashba joined. He seemed to be eager to pitch in, and I doubt bumble was as ambitious and as influential.

I don't like Silkworms much at all. I enjoyed it enough when it had the chorus from Rio and HOB, but without it I don't find much to love. I say this so you don't think I love everything Axl puts out. But I really do like Eye On You. I like it a bunch in the current form that we have, I'd be fine if nothing was added. And I just tried listening to it over the Interstellar clips and I thought it worked great. I'd love to see some other Guns songs matched up with movie clips like this, it's never really dawned on me to do this. But I'm glad it was brought up. This was really fun. And I think the song is close enough to the GNR wheelhouse to make a record.

Glad you liked it. I was trying it out with Interstellar and inception, since scenes in that movie are grandiose enough to match the feel of the song.

I believe it's hard to find a match with many New Gnr songs since they have atypical composition, but I'd start with CITR andMadagadcar for sure. I think Madagascar would be a great match for American history X.
