they're passable on record, really good live though. there's well over a hundred folk/alt. country/americana releases from the last 2-3 years that I like more than sigh no more.

most brian johnson-era songs have terrible lyrics.
No way, man...I mean Brian only wrote the lyrics for his first 4 albums with the band...starting with The Razors Edge it was Mal & Ang writing the song lyrics and THOSE were mediocre/bad. The lyrics Brian did write were pretty fucking good, imo...on par with Bon's for sure.
oh didn't know that. guess I should check my facts before posting, eh? just assumed it was brian all along. the lyrics on back in black are definitely much better than their later stuff, and I haven't heard the next three much in the last few years so I don't really remember the lyrics on those. just that their latest couple of album have really terrible lyrics. guess brian isn't to blame then...but I stand by my statement that most brian johnson-era songs have bad lyrics, although they were penned by the young brothers.
I see where you're coming from now. It's not like AC/DC was ever a band that you'd listen to in order to hear some serious thought-provoking lyrics, but there was a certain playfulness to the lyrics that Bon started and Brian later built on. It's the Young brothers that kinda shifted from that approach starting with TRE (not necessarily for the best, imo). Actually, Brian was supposed to write the lyrics for Black Ice but for some reason that they didn't fall through. You should revisit those 80s albums again...You'd be surprised to find a few hidden gems here and there
yeah, exactly. I wasn't talking about y'know serious stuff or deep, but they were really fucking good for what they were - which was just fun rock 'n' roll lyrics. the later stuff lacks that. yeah, maybe I will, definitely need to give for those about to rock another spin. didn't like fly on the wall at all the last time I heard it though...except for one or two tracks, which I can't even remember the title of now

What kind of music do people who use the term "dad rock" listen to? What's better than the Stones, Doors and Zeppelin?
stones: nothing, only possibles are neil young, bruce springsteen and maybe bob dylan.
zep: lots of stuff.
doors: pretty much everything.
just kidding, although I do think this. most people don't however.
re the op: ac/dc in general isn't really my thing, they're too repetitive and most brian johnson-era songs have terrible lyrics. that said, during the bon scott-era, when they got it right they were pretty much the ultimate hard rock band (I'd put gnr, aerosmith and thin lizzy over them), see the highway to hell album. plus bon scott was a far better lyricist and songwriter than brian johnson, and they hadn't done the same thing for decades yet so they still had some creativity left in them.
anyone heard mark kozelek's (of sun kil moon/red house painters) album of bon scott-era ac/dc covers? it's really cool actually, although you can hardly hear it's ac/dc songs the way he's playing them...really show that their more to those songs than what you might first hear when listening to an ac/dc record.

Curren$y - Pilot Talk (NP: Seat Change (feat. Snoop Dogg))
I really fucking hate Snoop Dogg. Haven't heard his early (supposedly good) stuff though, but when the best thing he's done that I know is his role in Starsky & Hutch something wrong (all I've heard is his singles and guest spots since '02 or something like that).
You should check out Doggystyle, his debut. Classic. And Dr.Dre's The Chronic. He's on about half the album, another classic.
yeah, I know...I'm gonna have to do that, especially since I heard a really good tune with him (from the '90s) at a bar yesterday.
