  1. Geez, they have left a great deal of there well known songs out.duff21
Yes, but that's what I loved about that night. They change the setlist every night, and don't cater to casual "hits only" fans. For a long time follower like me it was heaven to hear some songs that a less adventurous band would not put in their set in place of their well known hits. AND we got new material that night! Tough Mama and Song Of Love, it's a night I'll never forget, I can't, I got it on cd. :xmasssanta:
Hey man, I brought Amorica last night. I listened to it all day at school, its simply amazing. She gave good Sunflower, P.25 London and High Head Blues are my favourites at this stage. Wiser Time is nothing short of magic.Hopefully they come out to Australia next year and I cant wait to hear there new album.duff21
Please tell me you already have The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion...and if you do, then go get By Your Side next. You won't be sorry, I promise.Oooops, just read the first post, never mind
Lol yeah man its cool, all I want now is Three Snakes and One Charm. I downloaded 'Twice as Hard' lastnite the live version off the live album. What year was that played?duff21
Three Snakes is real cool, it's a little different...Chris Robinson describes it as Sunday Morning compared to SHAMC being Saturday night. The live album was recorded in 2001, right before their extended hiatus. The Lost Crowes set is great also, a bunch of stuff that was recorded in the 90's and not released til last year...there are some b-sides that are as good as anything on any album, especially Darling Of The Underground Press and a killer cover of Dylan's When The Night Comes Falling From The Sky...dig it. Plus they allow live recording, and there's a treasure trove of live stuff available for trade.
Guess who's going to see them Oct 3??? Me that's who!!!!!! rock3 This is one of my 3 dream bands to see. The other two being The doors and of course original gnr. So this is probably the 1 that I'll get to see. But hey batting .333 isn't too shabby. It gets you into Hall of Fame :)
You will enjoy it, take an open mind, no telling what songs they'll play...or not play.

  3. I was pretty dissapointed when Eric Clapton came that he didn't bring Derek Trucks with him...

But Robert Cray came, and that was cool.

So getting back to the Crowes.

    Marc Ford or Audley Freed?

I prefer Marc, but I saw them 2 or 3 times with Audley and he totally brought it...not a popular opinion on the BC boards to be sure, but I calls 'em like I sees 'em :D

I saw the Jones Beach show they did with Jimmy Page, and Audley sounded amazing. I prefer Marc too, but I'd have to say both are miles above Jeff Cease. That was probably the biggest upgrade from the first album to the second, and the addition of Ed Harsch.

Yeah, and that tour was among the finest rock shows I've ever seen. I didn't catch any of the Page Crowes shows, but the CD was great.

  5. As I said on the Vr thread, Warren Haynes totally schooled Zakk Wylde on the time Zakk went to fill in for Dickey Betts, the ABB didn't have him back after that...

I can imagine, I've seen Warren numerous times and he is a class A Motherfucker on guitar.

  6. Just watched a video of Reb Beach and Doug Aldrich going at it back and forth at some clinic, it's pretty cool. I'd love to see Slash and Marc do something like that.

I saw a video of Marc and Warren Haynes do that, some serious cool playing...saw Warren and Audley Freed do it in person in New Orleans back in '04...mind numbing. I don't mean to come off like a Slash hater, I dig the guys playing alot.

  7. I hate Aerosmith in the 80's.

Ive got all their 70's albums, they were so much more raw in those days. In the 80's it was like they were trying to fit into the music scene with Poison etc.

    duff21

Yep, they ruled the 70's...Kix was really cool, I really despised most of the 80's 'til AFD came out. Toward the end it got better, Badlands anybody? Junkyard? Broken Homes? Dog's D'Amour?

aerosmith totally sold out in the 80's. i actually favor their 90's stuff over their 80's garbage.

    that makes sense :rofl-lol:

:fuckyou: they did sell out to the whole glam bullshit.

i never said they didnt

yeah, i also stated that i favor their 90's stuff over their 80's garbage. how did that not make since?

OK, I'm more than a little confused...glam? Glam was around when Aerosmith started in the 70's, Tyler always wore makeup and dressed up. And GNR was glam compared to the t-shirt and jeans thang...I think you mean they got poppy. not glam.

i'm talking about glam metal. duh

No need to snippy kid, you mean pop metal, Bon Jovi and Cinderella and all that shit? Poison? That kinda thing? I'm just tryin' to clarify, not start shit, i do that enough talkin about Axl's solo band

  8. I've seen them both too, and I say maybe.

Fair enough brother, it's all pretty subjective anyway, some Yngwie fan is laughing his ass off at both of us right now, and I wouldn't give you a nickel for his whole catalog or a ticket to see him :D

  10. Been a rabid fan since 1990, seen 'em about a dozen times...nobody contemporary can touch them in my book. The Pittsburgh show I saw in 1992 was one of the best Rock and Roll shows I've ever seen. And Marc Ford can wipe the floor with Slash on a bad night.

"Wiping the floor" implies he wouldn't even break a sweat trying to outplay Slash, and I don't think that's the case. He'd very much break more than a sweat and a few strings. He may not even be able to get the job done...

Seen 'em both, he'd get the job done.

  13. Carey's great, but he didn't play in Led Zeppelin. And that's who this thread's about ain't it?

Unless we're talking about the original version of the tune which I'm willing to bet only ODS has also heard...

    Memphis Minnie :shades:

  14. thats strange,i was thinking about the same thing ,only with Stones or Dylan performing

Please tell me, right here and now: why do you think Stones and Dylan suck?

Dylan is folk music,I simply don't like folk music

and Stones, they say this band is a tough rock band, these guys sound how shall I say, limp :D. Maybe there are better albums they made in the 80's or 90's,but Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers make Foreigner sound like ACDC

pluss nowadays,Rock N Roll Cemetary should really have better guards, these guys keep getting out and going on tour

If you think Dylan is folk music I suggest you get your hands on Live 1966 (disc 2) and Live 1975...some of the best live Rock and Roll music ever recorded. And Can't You Hear Me Knockin off Sticky Fingers makes Foreigner and AC/DC sound like amateurs. Listen to Get Yer ya Yas Out sometime.

  15. I've trying to figure out what's the best way to write a song. I have no experience of it; but it seems that musicians/guitarist right riffs or music then when the music is done, a lyric guy comes in and sings something over the track.

I know this isn't always done like this but it seems quite common.

My thoughts have always been why don't they have an idea or an emotion or a story they want to capture then write music that fits the lyrics/ emotions.

Like I would imagine if you were the singer you would have a situation in your life then say I want to express this. I want to say this, now how do I say this best.

The other way is to have some guys coming up with sounds then you listen to it and say this goes with that. But it seems like a backwards technique.

The creative process is strange but does it dilute the original core of a song to have it in the mixer for too long?

There is no set way, it's up to the song as to how it wants to be born. I've written both music first and lyrics first, depends on what inspires me. The singer in my current band actually hears complete songs in his head and sings the ideas to us, which we then flesh out. I think he's written some amazing rock and roll songs

  16. Hey,

in your opinions what is the best Stones album and what is the worst?

Also...What are your opinions of the Stones post 1973 albums, which would be:

    It's Only Rock N' Roll (1974)

    Black and Blue (1976)

    Some Girls (1978)

    Emotional Rescue (1980)

    Tattoo You (1981)

    Undercover (1983)

    Dirty Work (1986)

    Steel Wheels (1989)

    Voodoo Lounge (1994)

    Bridges to Babylon (1997)

    A Bigger Bang (2005)

Best...a complete tie, Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed, Get Yer Ya Ya's Out, Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main Street.

One of the most creative four year runs by any band...Yeah, they did all those albums between 1968 and 1972, and toured the US in 1969 to boot...ever feel like some of todays bands just aren't that good?

Worst...Satanic Majesties, bad Sgt Pepper attempt, though it did lead to the period I just mentioned.

All of the post 1973 albums had moments, Some Girls was geat IMO, after Dirty Work the moments got fewer and further between.
