  1. I would hardly say Britney or Christina have vanished, they've just released albums less frequently. The Spice Girls split up, as opposed to fading away, and Madonna? Are you serious? She sold out Wembley Stadium not even 3 years ago!

Read what i said again buddy. I said they either vanished or aren't half as popular as they once were. Of course Madonna is gonna sell out stadiums, but when she puts out a new record, its not gonna sell or be quite as popular as her old stuff, or even Lady Gaga's new stuff. Most of Britany's newer albums flop(compared to her old ones, they stay in the charts for much less, with less singles etc). They are no longer "the craze" which is what Gaga is now.

  2. I'm contemplating getting Chidem in SHM format and Vinyl as i hear those two formats sound better then traditional CD. It is that noticeable? Im probably just looking for an excuse to buy some more Guns related stuff anyway haha.

  3. The video's been banned by MTV.

    http://thehottestishh.net/?p=1794

I didn't know that mtv still played videos???

Fuck ,they are irrelevant now. They sold out by turning into reality TV central. Record labels can make more advertising dollars these days through Vevo on Youtube then they ever could on MTV. In regards to if Gaga will have the staying power... i dunno. I look back to the MASSIVE popstars of yesteryear and most, if not all fade away. No one ever thought Britany would go away, no one ever thought the Spice Girls would go away, or Madonna, or Christina Aguilara. All of the above either vanished or are not even half as popular as before. I mean the Spice Girls were absolutely HUGE worldwide and they vanished without a trace. This could be the case for Gaga. Time will tell, but i can see it being a fad.

  4. the Better vid is the grenade pin that could shrapnel the whole world. pull the pin.

This. I was talking to a friend last night over MSN and we were talking about the state of music these days being in the toilet. I then said, Guns N Roses still rock, to which he replied "im talking about new music though". He was a fan of the old school Guns and didn't know they had a new record out. So i told him to check out Better on youtube, he was absolutely blown away, his exact words were "Wow, what a melody". This is where Guns still have a chance. Because MOST people haven't heard the album, they can still put out a real video for Better and have it storm up the charts. Maybe not No.1 on the billboard but still something noticeable. We can dream though.

  5. In regards to you last post. People don't buy anywhere near as many albums as they used to. You bringing up MJ is a rare case because he died and he was massively popular, it sparked a fire because pretty much everyone loved MJ. Everyday artists(even former superstars like Madonna, George Michael, Prince etc) don't sell close to that on any given day. Music is selling, but no where near what it used to. Back then a huge album would sell 20 million worldwide, nowadays getting over 7-8 million is VERY hard.

nah man, I agreed with that point. People download a lot more now, no album is gonna sell like they used to. MJ was the exception but also shows people still do go out and purchase. Downloading can't be used as a generalized excuse all the time. If you look at the charts, people are still buying albums they like, and not just new releases. Guns GH, Dark Side of The Moon, Abbey Road to name a few are still selling enough to make the lists, while CD is nowhere to be found. If people wanted the album they would buy it, certainly they're buying something, otherwise there wouldn't be a list, right?

Correct about people still buying "something. Although there have been modifications to what is required to get "platinum" etc these days. There are still charts and lists etc but the numbers needed to reach Platinum or Gold have been lowered simply because CDs dont sell as much unfortunately. I love going out and buying a CD i've been waiting for with the artwork etc. Chidem didn't get the promotional push to get it played everywhere i think. A high budget stylish music video would've made it much bigger. Bestbuy could have had it playing on TVs during the launch if this was the case(even though they dropped the ball promo wise too).

  6. Its been out for almost a year and a half and for other than diehard fans, it was a forgettable album collecting dust on the shelves.

Is the tour helping sales at all? I haven't seen any stats.

    You suck, cease posting.

I've seen some of your posts unfortunately. You suck alot more. Follow your own advice.

pretty much all albums are collecting dust on the shelves. why do you think there have been so many music stores shutting their doors for the past few years?

Music stores are shutting doors because you can go to places like Best Buy and Target or the supermarket or oder albums online, no need to go to a specialty store anymore. Albums don't sell like they used to cuz people download now too, but it doesn't mean music isn't selling in general. Example, Michael Jackson sold over 1 million albums in a week last year. People are still buying albums they like and want.

  7. No it can't. Time for a new album cause Chinese Democracy the album has run it's course. It's not gonna get anymore radioplay and videos aren't gonna suddenly bring it back to life.

Why not? Lady Gaga gets something like 130 million views on youtube from a unique video clip. Chidem went relatively undetected in the US due to this. This is why is can be possible. It wasn't popular enough that its been "used up". Its still relatively unheard of in the states. A real original Better video(not cut up live footage) could garner real interest. But i agree it is far fetched for sure, too much time has passed :( But hey if they do it, i'l be over the moon. Didn't GnR have to release Sweet child of mine 3 times before it got airplay? Im going by Axl's 2006 Eddie Trunk interview.

  8. I reckon the song is cool. Beyounce's parts are inferior to Gaga's though. The radio edit is muchhhh better. Regardless, i can see this video hitting 100+ million views on youtube for sure. And people here say music videos are irrelevant these days.... I did laugh when i saw the Virgin mobile and Plenty Of Fish ads in the video, seeing that shit kinda sucks, like there aren't enough advertisements around...

  9. Nice! Awesome to see the band showing the inner workings of GnR on the road. My only minor gripe(which might be fixed in later episodes) is no Axl :( But im more than happy with this for sure :) Compared to what were got in 2006-2007, this is like wonderland for GnR fans.

  10. It's not always: more relatable = better

More often than not, art is about giving it a little twist!

While that can be true, in music, the listener needs some thing they can relate too. Nirvana's lyrics were mainly jibberish to me, going no where and everywhere. Its like a book with no story. But these are my opinions :) I listen to Nirvana sometimes but in terms of lyrics GnR(old and new) are much more deep and fulfilling.

  11. And Sure compare Corgan to Cobain, its a good one, both of their lyrics are not as deep or good as Axl's.

Axl's lyrics are simple by comparison. Cobain wrote in extremely artistic metaphors. Most of his music was so cryptic, that only he knew what he was singing about. It's more complex.

If only Cobain knew what he was singing about, hoy do you know that he wrote in extremely artistic metaphors?

Because...that's just the way he wrote.

She eyes me like a pisces when I am weak

I've been locked inside your Heart Shaped box for a weeks

I've been drawn into your magnet tar pit trap

I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black

This is just one example of many, especially on In Utero (if I remember correctly).

"for a weeks" hmmmm excellent English right there yep!

"Magnet tar pit trap" oh yeh they are everywhere these days are they?

"Meat-eating orchids forgive no one " I don't even have to say anything here...

Relatable and genius lyrics for sure :) (note the heavy sarcasm). Just my opinion anyway.

  12. I just can't see Axl stopping til CD outsells AFD. The CD tour will never end and eventually they'll get videos out for the songs. Then they'll probably come up with a new format and we'll have to buy CD again on Diamond-ray Plus or some shit. Then they could even include CD II as part of CD and then again it would be re-up'd. We've only just begun.

CD has zero chance of out selling AFD. It won't ever come close.

AFD is packed with classic tracks, something most bands find impossible to duplicate.

Yeh and the fact that most people don't buy albums anymore... i think people forget that one.

  13. The main difference though, is Corgan's first records where it's pretty much him, are brilliant. So much so, that it does make you kinda wonder if he was the entire driving force on the first pumpkin records (not saying he is).

Siamese Dream was his baby guitar and bass-wise, I'm sure he'd have drummed too, but Chamberlain's a beast, just listen to 'Geek USA'

All of the SP records are his babies.

While GNR has many different contributors from many ends (vocals, instruments, songwriting) Billy Corgan IS Smashing Pumpkins. Even more so than Nirvana, in which Cobain WAS Mr.Everything he at least let them play instruments on the records. BC didn't even let James Iha and D'Arcy play on the records. 95% of the drum/bass/vocals is just him. The only one who played on nearly every track was Jimmy Chamberlain. Iha and D'Arcy were touring musicians at best.

Corgan could do everything himself. Axl needs back-up. Btw, I'm a far bigger GNR fan than SP, but facts are facts...

You mean 95% of the guitar/bass and vocals were all Corgan :) Not to mention the piano and synth parts too. Its pretty clear it wasn't a colaborative effort but hey, the other members still stuck around for a couple of albums. I always wondered why Billy recruited Iha, as Billy was the guitarist himself. I like SP and i think Billy is really cool to the fans and a really smart guy, his new album project has been praised by everyone and its free!!!! I also like how no one SP song sounds like another SP song(or any other song for that matter) although some of their songs i don't like.

  14. I doubt it. The album has far too much baggage attached to it. The press will never forget how much it cost and how long it took to make the album. It was destined to disappoint. And frankly, some of the songs are pretty weak versus initial sky-high expectations (IRS, Scraped, Riad).

I think the band should tour the album (as they are), but keep the chemistry and momentum flowing by getting into the studio straight after , with Ashba on board, and hammer out another 13 songs from scratch. Without thinking too much about it or labouring over them. I reckon Ashbas guitar with Axl's vocals is a winning combination, and could get the band back to where they want to be

    LA

3 bad songs(your opinion which your entitled to) out of 14 isn't a bad ratio at all :) I personally love all the songs on there.

  15. With all this talk of Axl planning grand music videos later in the year and a documentary of the tour(and an actual tour), it seems that promotion may finally be underway. Question is, can Chidem climb back up the charts like Appetite did? From what i hear, Appetite took quite a while to get off the ground and it was only after they got MTV to play welcome to the jungle at 3am, then Sweet child came out and well we know the story. How long was appetite out before it became a "hit"? Similar to Moby's album Play. In its first week it sold something like 6000 copies worldwide 6 months later it re-entered the UK charts and hit number one, selling 2 million copies in the states and 10 million worldwide(this was before the big piracy thing of course). Can Chidem do the same or similar with grand videos and real promo?! Please let it happen!

  16. Niiiiiice find rock3

We already got confirmation that alternate booklet was real, remember the" Sorry" artwork?

2008 Democracy in China – Limited artists’ edition – Guns N’ Roses

    Guns 'N Roses album

"Axl Rose had purchased three of my paintings late last year, of which two pieces were to be included in a limited edition album release. To my knowledge, it was never widely released, though I received a copy from the band. I was looking at some stats for my website, and noticed a big spike in views and it appears that there is a big discussion among the GNR fans about the unreleased album, and in particular the images."

As i remember the mods closed the thread because it wasn't a reliable source or something like that(i could be wrong). Also the 3 pictures we were shown still had spelling and grammatical errors in them. Not to say they are fake, but back then it seems the mods thought it was and closed the thread. We now know for sure its legit.

  17. Isn't there a rumor floating around that Axl himself thinks CD is disappointing?

    Heresy.

On topic : it's not easy to sell albums for artists of a certain age. The vast majority of people who buy albums are teenagers.

If an artist doesn't appeal to teenagers, his album sales will be poor in general.

Another person who’s partied with Rose says he’s working on a new album after last year’s disappointing “Chinese Democracy” — the first Guns N’ Roses studio album in 15 years — and has something to prove.

You'll read into just about anything won't you? Where does it say that Axl is disappointed in Chidem?? Its the writers opinion that the album was disappointing, not Axl's, unless they had a direct quote. Axl would never put out an album he thought wasn't happy with.

    ",,has something to prove."

We don't know what thats in referral too though. He could be trying for more success at the sales part of it sure, but it doesn't mean he thinks Chidem itself was musically disappointing. My opinion anyway.

  19. - The name GN'R is bigger than KISS

    - CD had a budget of 15million

    - CD was maybe the biggest anticipated album of all time

    - CD was 15 years in the making

And besides, really have they a knew album out? Didn't knew that...

I think you get my point...

KISS is actually one of the biggest marketing brands in the history of music ... GN'R isn't.

CD wasn't 15 years in the making even though people claim so.. people could've claimed that KISS album was 11 years in the making since it's their first one for 11 years

I think you get my point...

    This.

    Kiss is bigger than GNR

Kiss is bigger then new GnR for sure, Gene and Paul whore out the Kiss name to pretty much everything and they put on massive tours to millions of people over the years. GnR was bigger then kiss from 1987-1994 but after the band went MIA while Kiss stayed on course, well, Kiss surpassed Guns in brandname and such.

The Kiss brandname has always been bigger then GNR. Brandname and how many units a band sells are two different things.

While true, it can also be true that the bigger the brandname, the more aware the general public is of the band, equaling more sales. There can be and usually is a correlation between the two. Kiss fans are usually pretty fanatic, and the fact(fact) that it sold less than half of what Chidem did is striking, anyway you spin it.
