  1. I paid $94 for a General Admission ticket in 2011, got to the venue at noon and was one layer of people back from the rail (a short Latina girl had wandered into the pit so I spent the gig with my arms on either side of her, hands gripping the rail, making sure she didn't get crushed). Bumble and DJ both tossed me picks. Duff (who was opening and sat in with GNR for "You Could Be Mine") stage-dove on top of me. It was an awesome frigging night, made very special by the fact it was my first time hearing a lot of the ChiDem songs live (they'd only teased the album when I saw the band in 2002).

If G.A. for Vegas were in the $150 range, I'd seriously consider going, but $250 (or $350) is beyond my means.

Also, while I'm delighted that Slash and Axl have made the peace, I'd almost prefer that they not tour until they write some new material together. Imagine the emotions and reawakened memories they must be sharing right now. Plus, Duff has done a ton in the last two decades, evolving as a musician, writer and human being. What great new tracks could come out of all that! Hopefully the set lists will reflect some of their growth alone and apart, with some surprises for everyone rather than a version of the UYI concerts -- which we have (thank God) preserved on bootlegs and the Tokyo videos.

I remember you! You turned me on to the piano-only November Rain demo. I was next to you in Seattle..., the guy in the leather jacket who brought the dolphins.

  2. The fact is a lot of those GA tickets on stubhub are spec tickets. Meaning that the person selling them doesn't even have them in hand. They'll list highly desireable tickets for an absurd amount hoping some poor SAP buys them for a markup. When the scalper knows they'll make $2,000 profit, they'll pull their strings and try to aquire the tickets. And sometimes the scalper can't so they cancel the sale. A lot of people have shown up at venues only to get a phone call from stubhub saying their tickets are invalid.

  3. Going to be staying at the Best Western on Paradise Road, about a mile and a half from the venue. $150 a night with taxes and fees. I took two weeks off of work in anticipation of Coachella which I still intend to attend..., so these vegas shows actually work out quite well schedule wise. $2500 dropped in the first week of the GnR reunion.

  4. Two general passes were $798. Four nights in a room off AirBnB was $993. The house me and my lady are staying at is 2.5 miles from the venue. That's almost $1,800...not counting the gas for a 1,624 mile round trip, food, etc.

To me its absolutely worth the money. I remember seeing Guns in Seattle in 2011, and feeling the excitement from the crowd when Duff walked out and played 'You Could Be Mine' with Axl. If this environment carries even a fraction of that excitement, then yes, its totally worth the money.

That said, I'm very pleased to have Axl, Slash, and Duff playing together. But, lets face it, if the five original guys do a show, this is going to be the show it happens at. If I missed that lineup preform, I'd be kicking myself in the ass for the rest of my life.

Saturday, I'm getting in line for the festival at 5:00 a.m (I'm under the impression they kick everyone out after the show ends on Friday, and open back up in the morning). I basically plan to plant my ass at the front of that security barrier for 18 hours or however long it takes for Guns N' Roses to come on stage. If you're going to commit to this show, you might as well do it right.

I'll shamelessly be sporting my Chinese Democracy shirt.

  5. 20 years is a long time to hold on to a grudge and its probably a big weight off everyone involved's shoulders just to air out the decades of twisted and convoluted BS. If I were a betting man, I'd say once Axl and Slash started talking, the two realized their issues were created and exacerbated by third-parties looking to exploit the members for their own gains. I'm glad they're civil with each other -- if only for their peace of mind. At $3 million a show, I'm glad they can have the last laugh.

Seriously, I hate festivals, but I'm going to Coachella even if I have to sell my first born.

  6. I went to one show in Vegas. It was much better than the disaster that was the Bridge School Benefit that we had attended a month earlier. I was very happy to hear Catcher live, which really was the highlight of the evening. Still, despite the addition of strippings, flying pianos etc, the vegas show didn't hold a candle to the Seattle gig last year when Duff showed up.

FYI, the VIP tickets were a rip-off and cash-grab. I had to get seats 'cause my leg got fucked up in a wreck last new years. $250 a pop for a seat with half the stage obstructed by catwalks. I probably would have had a much better time up at the front of the stage. The meet and greet was a joke. A 'shuttle you through and take a picture' senerio. No autographs or anything. Did meet Bumble and DJ which was cool...but that was simply from hanging around the venue, not from the VIP pass.

Interesting footnote: It is kinda trippy to head down to the Hotel Gym, look to your right, and see Richard Fortus working out. Not something you run into during a run-of-the-mill trip to the gym.

That said, being that I don't drink and I don't gamble, I wasn't big on the whole Vegas experience anyway.

  7. I was at shoreline tonight. I haven't seen the live stream. The show was painful for me, a die-hard Axl fan.

My girlfriend said that Axl sounded like Dr. Rockso the rock n roll clown from metalocalypse. Sadly, she's dead on.

It's just so disappointing. I saw em in Seattle last December and Axl sounded damn good. Did he not do his warm ups? I dunno, but I'm not psyched for Vegas so much anymore. Hopefully he'll reel it in over the next month.

What did the people in crowd think? Did they have the same reaction that you did for the most part?

The crowd wasn't nearly as critical as we were.its worth noting that a lot of people left after Jack White. The reaction from the GnR performance was A lot of people were saying, "he sounds good, but not like he used to." In fairness, GnR got a much bigger crowd response than Jack White and The Flaming Lips.

  9. I think a big portion of the angst amongst the fanbase comes from the lack of material from the current lineup. You guys have proven yourself live. Anyone who's been to the shows in the last year gets that. But, to be blunt, half the writers on Chinese Democracy were long gone by the time the album came out. I'm sure you know this.

The general public has a negative viewpoint of current Guns simply because a certain guy in a tophat isn't with the band anymore. The only was to win them over is with some new, kick-ass material. We've heard your solo works. We know you can write. Hell, my GF hates GnR but likes your solo material. I encourage you and the current crew to push Axl to go back in the studio. Earn your keep.

  10. A big thanks to all of the fans who helped make this happen…and of course the lax security at the Key Arena. The phrase, “this happens at all Guns N Roses shows! You should know this!” was quite useful when questioned. Gotta love gullible event staff. Really, one person probably couldn’t have pulled it off, but when 12 people have dolphins, it’s a bit more believable.

The effort was justified by two moments:

1-When Ron finished his introduction to Estranged, opened his eyes, saw all the dolphins in the crowd. It was a visible WTF moment. He motioned for me to throw him my dolphin, played for a bit with it in his mouth…then made it attack his neck.

2-The look on Axl’s face during his moment of realization. He was trying (and failing) to keep a straight face during a rather serious song. DJ was quite amused as well.

Thanks to everyone who helped out, especially RickRoses. It was his knowledge of the setlist that allowed everyone to be perfectly timed on this one. And thanks to whoever had the original idea.
