  1. to each their own, but i really think what makes the Illusion albums special is the piano parts throughout. They made THEIR brand of rock n roll and they did it with a piano and i love every track that has it included. If you were wanting Appetite Volume 2 then i guess you got dissapointe

Best? Nonsense! Dizzy and Axl's over use of piano on those records are completely unnecessary. Do we need piano on KOHD, So Fine, PTU? No, we don't. Civil War is another one. I really would like to hear someone make their own mix and strip the piano parts out of all but the Axl songs and see how they sound. I know some of the demos are better, particularly Civil War so I bet it would be awesome.

"They"? Who was this? Because I'm pretty sure Duff, Slash and Izzy didn't want those on there and they were all put on post production via Axl. As far as I'm concerned, apart from the Axl songs, the real version is the version without all the piano because 4 of the 5 members didn't want it on the record.

  3. Personally I think he looked better in 2012 than 2006

Personally, I think he looked better in 1992 than 2006. The whole braids things was mostly a fake wig anyway.

The thing about Axl is, he just doesn't GIVE a fuck. He doesn't care what any of us think. He eats too much, doesn't practice singing, shows up late... and he doesn't care. I guess he's happy with who he is. While I personally wouldn't do any of these things, more power to him if that's what he wants with his life.

  4. I think the 80s to 90s change was just him going from early to late 20s.

Axl was 26 in 1988 and by the end of 1993, 31. So it's more going from his late 20's to his early 30's. But I don't think that's the cause of the vocal change. I think, and this goes for all the years he's gone on tour... that it has to do with not using it between them. I don't think he uses his voice and it causes it to tighten up and gives him problems.

  5. I would listen to November Rain and Estranged back to back on repeat for days. Don't Cry is a wonderful song but I see it as a radio friendly song following the same formula of any other rock ballad. I hold it a step above Every Rose Has Its Thorn.

Every Rose Has its Thorn is far, far below Don't Cry lol. The solo is shit compared to Slash's, the chords are much more basic (Don't Cry has more parts and even an octave shift), Brett's vocals are much less intricate and varied (not to mention he's a much worse singer) and overall, it just sounds like pure 80's cheese.

Oh, and it's also a lot less personal.

I thought it went dont cry, November rain, and then estranged

    It certanly does.

I remember something about the singles came out in that order, Don't Cry, Nov Rain, Estranged but actually the parts fit together story wise NR, DC, Estranged. The videos were out of order in other words? not sure about this really.

I disagree. In Don't Cry, we're hearing the actual falling apart. In November Rain, we're hearing the protagonist reminisce and then plead for his lover to come back. In Estranged, you're hearing someone who's realized it's completely fucking over and is trying to make sense out of it.

    That's my take anyway.

  6. Axl should get every relevant musician that has ever played with Guns N' Roses and do an Ultimate Reunion™ for a Farewell Tour™. Once the idea is proposed, I find it hard to believe any of the guys would reject it. Maybe - and probably - Buckethead, but perhaps Brain could talk him into it. Each line-up obviously perform the songs released by them, and as the current line-up didn't release anything (lol) they do the covers (that's what they do already). Then everyone goes onstage for Paradise City.

The current setlist already embraces the vast majority of the GNR catalog, but of course a few things would have to be changed. If everyone had a solo spot the concerts would be gigantic, so let's let just Slash's Godfather, because it's a classic, and Buckethead doing his thing, because he's cool.

As for a new album, it would be interesting if Axl released it before the tour and played songs from it too. Or maybe later, after the tour, as a posthumous GNR album.

Sounds horrifying bloated and melodramatic. I can't imagine anyone outside of Jarmo and people of his ilk wanting to attend that tour.

  7. I saw that tour twice, it was amazing!

I saw 2 shows on the tour as well.

Felt that Metallica easily were the better show both nights. And also the crowd was mostly pro-Metallica and literally thousands of people left before GNR came on and when GNR played, it felt like a hostile crowd. They were fighting a no-win battle on that tour

The problem stems from the fact that they aren't even the same genre. Metallica up to that point was thrash metal and GNR, hard rock with a bunch of love ballads to their name. I don't know how they didn't see an issue mixing those two fan bases together. Seems obvious to me.

Id say most fans of each band like the other.

Now they do, sure but back then GNR was popular because of women. Metallica's fans were metal heads. Totally different crowds.

  9. I just cringed so hard

I know. I mean, just LOOK at that cover. I don't know how anyone can defend such cheesy music and/or image. Hair metal was as contrived and fake as it gets.

and yet that decade was so much more fun than being entertained by depressed pizza delivery boys wearing flannel shirts.

Cyndi Lauper and Boy George were "fun". Fun<authenticity imo.

I bet you throw awesome parties.

At my age, throwing parties would be pretty pathetic lol

  11. Okay for years Axl has said "not in this lifetime" and Slash has finally gotten the message because he's also saying he and Axl cannot play together, so why this rumor now?

Honestly, unless the original members agree to reunite and do new music, what is the point? money? I don't think Axl would agree to that.

Whatever happens, I wish all of them well. It'll never be the original members because Steven wouldn't be invited back because of his drug problem, so it wouldn't really be the original GNR.

Nothing matters as far as the past. Axl and Slash could both say they want the other to die today and it wouldn't affect how they feel in a month. People have moments of clarity all the time. What someone feels or believes in can change on a dime at a moments notice.

I'm not saying this is going to happen but if it did... it's definitely not going to shock me.

  12. damn wish I never made this thread with all of the negative comments..

Uhhh....what the fuck were you expecting?

Yeah really lol. Making a negative thread kind of begets negative responses lol

We all know that if this were to happen, MyGNR would be like reddit during #TheFappening. God, would it be neat, but it'd for sure be the end of the current band such as it is.

If it happened, I'd pay ANY amount they were asking to see one of the shows up close to the stage. If I had to sell shit, I'd sell shit. It would probably be one of the biggest tours, as far as rock goes, in a long, LONG time.

  14. GNR is now basically that old washed up band playing county fairs and doing vegas shows. Endless touring that relies on playing the greatest hits to aging, beer guzzling mainstream dude bros in their 40's and 50's who just want to get drunk and listen to shit they enjoyed back in their glory days.

The ground breaking, dangerous band from 1985-1991 is no more. The only way we're ever going to see anything close to it is if Axl gets all the original guys together into a room and they write spontaneously for a few weeks, record, release it and then go on a world tour.

Other than that, it's over. Like, Poison/Warrant over.
