  1. Since I Dont Have You- cool version, fun, different, liked it

Raw Power- good energy, good listen, but usually skipped it

Down on the Farm- love it

Human Being- REALLY LOVE IT - Axl's performance is amazing- the song rocks, drumming at end is cool

Ain't it Fun- REALLY LOVE IT - another killer track

Buick Makane- cool song, dig Slash singing

Black Leather/Hair of the Dog- kinda entertaining, its Axl, so its gotta be good

and thats just off the top of my head...the album is great IMO. Human Being really rocks.

  2. W23 you are actually complaining about a live show that you didn't actually attend?

Don't be embarrassed for DJ about his antics in stage. The people who actually attend the shows are having a blast and enjoying it.

With fans like you guys, who needs haters. I'm guessing you both are struggling guitar players who blame everybody in the industry for your lack of success. And as you bust out your solos in your basement you think that it should be you on stage and not the no talent Ashba. Jealousy is a terrible thing.

Not at all. DJ is just a poser and its plain and obvious for people to see. People are there to see Axl, we all know this. Its nice that you are trying to defend him, why I dont know, but I just read some posts here and posted my opinion, which I think a lot of people agree with.

I wish DJ the best, but his stage antics are really embarrassing and he looks like a poser. Simple.

  3. Write posts that have some substance to them and proper wouldn't respond with smartass comments.

You don't like DJ, because of very substantial reasons. You don't trust Axl's musician choosing skills.

I am emailing DJ's webmaster as we speak. Ditch all Ashba related material you are selling, guitar players are not allowed to make money outside of actual concerts and album sales. Your talent and skill level as a musician is related to the merchandise content of your webpage, Facebook and MySpace. Your professional music ability equates to only having solos posted on your Facebook page. And make sure u only post solos that 16 year old scooter from Idaho. annotations play.

Edit that and let me know what you think.

You should also email or call Axl and let him know that he isn't picking the right people for the band.

#1: I write very detailed and substantial posts.

#2: In regards to DJ. I never said I hated him, or disliked him. He's been with GNR for too little of a time to know whether he has the songwriting chops or technical skills to be a valuable member of GNR when it comes to NEW material. So YES, I'm skeptical. I've made it clear on several posts on here that outside of COVERING Slash and Finck solos there is really no proof he is all that great. His solo numbers on this tour are pleasing to the ear but only adequate - same as his Slash/Finck parts.

I've asked for proof from members on this forum that shows he is a great guitar player. No one here has presented me with anything, so I went to his website to investigate further. I found nothing but "Ashba Swag", dolls, and apps, and a few YouTube videos where he's playing..

    1) National Anthem (We've already discussed why this is far from a show of talent), and...

    2) Sixx:Am songs (those songs are simple numetal/classic rock hybrid riffs that i've seen come out of many local bar bands you wouldn't pay $3 to see.

I love GNR and think they are above all bands in most every genre. Axl has an eye for talent, that's for sure, and I guess you're telling me I should trust him and just wait and see what happens, but SORRY I am a hardcore fan that has investigated all members/collaborators that have been added since 1998. ALL of them have back catalogs of work that show their talent that make me curious and excited about how they will add to Axl's vision. DJ is the one member that has been added that has not impressed me.

Yes, DJ does an adequate job of covering parts, but if I wanted to listen to just adequate rock I wouldn't listen to GNR.

I've met DJ. I saw him with Beautiful Creatures. He's a fine showman but at the end of the day I want great rock music from Axl and co. and don't care about tattoos, cigarettes in mouths, and hands behind ears to get drunk crowds riled up.

Agree 10000% on everything you said. Im sure DJ is a nice guy, but he is too fake for me, tries too hard to be a "rocker", and its all just too easy to see through. The Hulk Hogan hand behind the ear is a gimmick that Axl doesn't need. The hat, the cigs, the tatts....thats fine, free country, but....it just doesn't work. Add the fact that he is OK on the guitar, definitely nothing to watch for more than 20 seconds.

I went to shows in 2002 and 2006 in the NY and CT area. I could not bring myself to go see this version of GNR. Im sure the shows were great and all, but they are great b/c of Axl.

I just can't believe people actually react when he puts his hand behind his ears, LOL, so embarrassing for him. AND, WTF is he doing to the intro to JUNGLE???? Just play the "B" notes with delay until Axl screams. PLEASE STOP THAT DISGUSTING BEND YOU DO ABOUT THE 3RD TIME IN, IT SOUNDS HORRIBLE!!!

I never thought Id miss Robin. I cannot believe Im typing that statement, but Assba makes me long for Robin's mistakes and flubs.

  4. I am not saying they are amateurs - and I get that they are trying to put their own spin on it. Its just that some of those bends are hard for me to listen to. Especially that first NR solo - I'd be happier if he just slid from the G to the A, instead of that slow bend. We are talking about nano-seconds here, but it doesnt sound right.

If you play guitar and know the intro to Since Ive Been Loving You by Zep....the 5th note is the bend from Bb to C....if you are slow on the bend, or sharp, or flat, it wont sound right. In GNR, noone is really sharp or flat (although DJ's guitar is out of tune sometimes)...its just those slow bends that kill some solos for me.

One thing about Slash, those bends are always on point. Full of confidence with feeling/balls behind it. He may have flubbed some bends (ala Robin) or made blatant mistakes, but the bends were always right on, exactly matching the album version.

Takes talent to bend strings to perfect pitch almost 100% of the time!

  5. I think the 3 guys do a good job of splitting parts up etc.

I have one major complaint and I think others may too.....

When they go to hit certain notes that are bent, for example....the first note of the first NR solo (is that 4tus?).....or the Estranged parts over "So nobody ever told ya baby, how it was gonna be..."....

    ....those are just 2 examples.......but...

they are taking just a split second extra to get from the starting note (in NR for example, the first note is bent from a G to an A) to the bent note......I dont want to start a Slash fight, but Slash would just bend that note from G to A instantly, and right on pitch. These guys are taking longer to get from the original note to the bent note, and its not sounding the way its supposed to.

The most blatant example is 4tus on the first NR solo. But it happens throughout by all 3 of them. If you play guitar you know what I mean here....they just dont seem as confident bending those notes and just going with it, they slowly bend so as to ensure they get the destination note right, but the slow bends just dont sound as good.

  6. He was out of breath and had a very high pitched with 0 rasp voice.

Lack of delay was probably the last problem to be taken into consideration with this VMA performance...

The band was on fire though.

Kind of agree. And there was delay in certain spots that I guess they pre-planned, but I think the general verses needed delay too. But yea, he was out of breath for sure. Sounds better now then it did then.

  7. I would really like to know why Axl's vocals are so dry at the VMA's. Why was there no Delay to add some depth to his vocals. And even though the room itself was huge, alittle Reverb would have helped his voice layer into the instruments better.

Yes, his voice was a bit off BUT his vocals are sitting WAY in front of the music. That is a BAD job by whoever is running the mixer and FX. His voice sounds really dry (meaning, no special fx).

If it was me, I would have put Delay on his vocals and a slight hint of Reverb. Im sure the person running the FX had hardly any time to judge at soundcheck b/c Axl was probably in and out and pissed off.

  8. ...Isn't she the one that has like ten kids?

    Yes.

I dont want to point out why they are so similar, b/c its not positive.

But, if you know the show.....you have to see what Im talking about. Especially the last few episodes, as the show ended for good last night.

  9. #1. December 6th, 2002 MSG New Yory City in a snow storm!!!

#2. Listening to UYI I for the first time

#3. Stealing my older brother's AFD tape in 1988

    #4. 5/12/06 & 5/14/06 @ Hammerstein in NYC

#5. Hearing OMG for the first time in late 90s

Not appearing: missing the UYI tour b/c parents wouldn't allow me to go

Also, the 2002 VMAs appearance was just off-the-charts exciting. The performance was OK, but the energy and buildup etc. that night was pretty intense!

  10. Its the very last few licks on the 2nd half of the SCOM solo that no one can get right. BBF is actually playing it the way Robin played those last few licks...at the ROSE BAR show its from 4:17 to 4:20.....take a listen

No one but Slash can play those last few licks the right way. Its just an observation.

Even the run-up lick when Slash would switch to the Wah, you know, when DJ now stops and BBF takes over (Slash DID do this using 2 tracks in the studio....the first solo stops on an E note, just like DJ is doing, while the wah runs over it, like BBF is doing....but even that run up, no one can play like Slash.

I think BBF is really talented. Im just observing that Slash has a certain touch that in certain places, just cannot be duplicated.

As well, some major props to BBF for playing that on acoustic!!!

  11. Don't forget "plays from his ___" (___ usually being heart or soul).

Its pretty simple. What solos have an identity? The end of Twat (BH) definitely does. TIL's solo tries very hard but doesnt get there imo. BH's Sorry solo almost gets there too.

But I can give you a top 20 of Slash solos that are recognizable and have their own identity. So whether you say "feel" or "touch" or whatever, all it means is the solo stands on its own. Blues scale, harmonic minor or major pentatonic scale, who cares? The blues scale is simply a minor scale with an added flatted 5th note anyway. Give me a solo I will remember that has......feel, intensity etc. If you use the blues scale, Im fine with that.

  12. when it comes to playing guitar in a technical , robotic if you like, way then bbf and bh are your choice but when it comes to feeling when there is nothing between a player and his axe slash is up there with some of the top players.

I hate when people say "feel", what feel? His out of tune bends and his terrible use of the same blues scale for 20 years isn't feeling.

LOL Yea, throw Jimmy Page into that mix too. Such terrible use of the blues scale. Who cares that they sold millions and millions of albums, each in their own bands. Who cares that they could create melodies that appeal to the greater world. They play that dam blues scale. Now, give me a solo like Shacklers. Yea....that is what I want. The sounds of elephants and what sounds like a circus, along with electric drills being placed onto the fretboard. Give me the elephant scale. Yes, give me that.

  13. Nobody can play it like Slash did.

Just like nobody will make Buckethead's stuff sound like Buckethead.

Just like nobody can make a fretless guitar sound like Ron.

    Different guitarists sound different.

Ron plays it with his own feel, which means it's technically very accurate, no dead notes whatsoever, incredibly clean. But yes, it does not sound like Slash...because he isn't. :shrugs:

Very fair response, and you are right on.

Of course they can't. Slash is a way better guitarist than any of them.

Im all about Slash, but he isn't a better player than BH, BBF or probably even 4tus. Of course he is a better player than Robin or DJ. But whatever, that doesn't matter....its about who makes the most appealing music/solos. IMO, Slash, while not the best technical player, makes the most appealing music (really solos....throw in an Izzy chord structure, some Axl vocals and....oh wait a second...)

  14. Not for nothing, but isn't it amazing how no one can play the 2nd half of the SCOM solo the right way. Say what you want about Slash and his technical prowess, but shit, no one can STILL touch his feel. Robin used to butcher the 2nd half of the solo, and even BBF cant play it with the right feel, flow and intensity.

I know BBF and 4tus are both very talented, this is not a hate thread. Just an observation.....

  15. At least he's got it right saying Slash couldn't pen a great song to save his life.

See Slash fans, Slash didnt do shit.

To be fair, no one else could have come up with those amazing solos of his.

Except for Buckethead or Bumblefoot or Guthrie Govan or any other guitarist that's more talented than he.

Negative. NO ONE would have come up with something better than the SCOM solo, or the NR solos, or the Estranged pieces, or Locomotive, or Coma.

BH is amazing, but we must give credit to Slash for writing to IZZY's songs.

  16. I was listening to it in my car last night and I had to turn the volume down for the solo. The high notes were piercingly loud.

Exactly. Best response in this thread. Its a great song....even Robin did a good job on the solo......but its just a little bit too hot in the mix. Thats all I am saying....your description of piercing is actually very good, thats what the solo is, piercing....

    Great song though!

  17. Anyone ever listen to TIL and realize the solo is way too high in the mix? It should have been taken down a few decibels during the final mix......and to think, after all that time, and the mix isn't 100% perfect. Im sure Axl wanted the solo to really slam in, but its just way too loud.

  18. Its just strange b/c think back to 1995-1999....we were promoting gnr to a world that didnt care, and kids back then had no idea who gnr or axl rose was...

It just seems like there was this revival of GNR in the early to mid 2000s....its cool to like GNR again, at any age.

The kids I see jamming to Jungle, aren't "playing daddy's classics"...these songs are real and legit to these kids........its pretty impressive actually! There isnt a "nostalgic" feel going on, its as if they just came out and are as creditable and legit as ever. GNR just doesnt feel old.

  19. I see kids singing along to GNR songs all the time

WHY? How do they know Jungle, SCOM, PC and some others?? Is it all from Guitar Hero?

Its pretty incredible how popular those songs are amongst the youth today. Im talking 7 yr olds singing Sweet Child, its crazy! How can Axl capitalize on this fact?!

I guess the only real way to make cash these days is to tour and get these kids to come to the show, along with us.

  20. The new album is pure speculation, but lots of people are taking it as gospel tat for some reason, reasons i dont qite understand...that a new album is on the way. There's been NO proof of this yet

Bu the tour is going well, a big european tour for sumer is shaping up nicely! rock3

    Thanks for that!

Where did the first idea of a new album come from?? Surely we didn't just make this up on our own?

Also, is there any talk of a US tour?

  21. Life has been hectic lately, and I haven't been here in awhile...

Can anyone recap what has been going on this spring? I see and hear all of this talk about another album....is this for real???

Would be incredible, but what the hell is going on??
