  1. I have a feeling that great things will come from the South America leg. rock1

Also have to say that the "surprise gigs" rate HIGH on the one of the best live performances list....wish I could've seen that in person, but did see/hear what's available on youtube - - and "You're Crazy" at John Varvatos will be a personal favorite of mine likely forever.

  2. was this posted here yet?

Correction: In rereading I realized I addressed the clothing nonsense as soon as I was made aware not when it 1st happened, my bad. I tend to avoid media n' the net when touring so as not to have whatever negative nonsense or those tryin' 2 stir trouble interfere w/either the show or time needed elsewhere in prep as well as other GNR business. Too much goin' on to b throwin' sand in some idiot's sandbox. Also my comments aren't based on these relatively minor issues they go a fair way back w/each of those mentioned n' unfortunately several others. We aren't lookin' 4 free rides or handouts, give those to those u been but if ya wanna play nice we can too in fact we'd love to. Can't say we didn't make the effort. Peace!!

  3. All I can say is, "wow", what a concert. But tonight was far more than a concert. Let me walk you through the evening.

I get there at 10:30pm and the people at the front are saying, "we're filled to capacity, everyone go home..." I'm like fuck, Ron said meet at 11pm and we'd be fine. He tells me to go around back and I'm met by another security guard who won't let me pass. I had to grease that fucker $50 to get to the next security guard waiting by the back door. Luckily, someone I knew in the camp who knew the security guards showed up and we walked in. We walked into the downstairs sections of CBGB which was reserved for band members, friends and some celebs (saw Rachel Hunter and Kevin Bacon). While I was down there, I finally got to meet DJ Ashba, Frank and Sebastian Bach. Let me tell you, these are some of the nicest people going (that's what happens when you send cases of Dr Pepper their way, take notes people). But seriously, these are all down to earth, genuine people that are approachable and easy to talk to. Wonderful, wonderful folk.

At around 12:30, people started putting on their coats to go back around to the upstairs section. People were saying the band was on stage. When I walked through the doors, Mr. Brownstone was on in full force. There's something surreal about walking into CBGB and hearing GNR coming through the speakers and you look up and the band is on stage, playing live. It's magical when a huge stadium act like GNR take center stage inside such a small venue. The sound was amazing. Now I've seen Axl many times over the years, but I can honestly say, that tonight, he sounded just as good, if not better, than when I saw him in 1991. His range, his rasp, his power was all there and in full force. But you know what made tonight sooooo special? It was the rawness of the band. Ron was on an acoustic guitar all night and DJ on the Les Paul. This softer and simpler setup reminded me so much of Guns when they first got on the scene. WIthout the layers and layers of guitar, Axl's voice just comes right at you...that's why I fell in love with Guns N' Roses in the first place and it was magical hearing it for the first time on a cold night in 2010. I'll do my best to recapture the set list, but I was too busy jumping up and down to take proper notes. This is in no way the proper order, but use your imaginations....

    Mr. Brownstone

    Welcome to the Jungle

    It's So Easy

    The Blues

    Patience

Catcher in the Rye - this song shines with Ron on acoustic. Was even better than the album version tonight.

    Rocket Queen

    Sorry

    My Michelle

    Knocking on Heaven's Door

    Whole Lotta Rosie

    Paradise City

    Encore:

    Sweet Child o Mine

    This I Love

    Nightrain

I may have missed a song or two, but as you can tell, it was an amazing set list. But you know what impressed me the most? Axl put everything he had into each song. With only about 150 people in attendance, he sung like there were 150,000! What a professional. The only annoying thing was most of the crowd weren't die hard GNR fans (aka, they didn't sing along to the new songs), but that's too be expected in NYC...everyone's too cool for school here. But when Axl plays MSG, it will be all die hards for Jersey and Long Island singing each note with him...

And lastly, after all these years, I finally got to meet the man himself. Fernando and his sister were super cool and once I introduced myself (as the dr pepper bozo), they were so gracious and made sure I got a chance to meet Axl. He's just a really, really nice guy. We had a great little chat and that was that, the perfect end to a perfect evening.

In the end, after all these years, after all of the ups and downs, Guns N Roses has manifest itself into a great band filled with amazing people. When you get close, you realize, these aren't rockstars, they are just people that want to laugh, have a good time and enjoy life. I'm just glad I got to see them in such a special setting giving their all. You know, life is short, and I'm so happy my turn on this rock also includes a little band called Guns N' Fucking Roses! Thank you Ron, Frank, DJ, Axl, Fernando and the gang for an amazing night. You're the best...

    CK (aka, Kaneda).

Wow Kaneda.....you've just experienced a dream of mine - thanks so much for sharing! Now...tell me more :)

Did they have a piano? And if yes, who played it for "This I Love"?

    Was there any random jamming?

I'm guessing there was no underwear thrown on stage this time? Ha!

  4. Hey - wishing I was posting to say I had something (I don't). I picked up piano again about a year ago (after about a 15 year hiatus) inspired soley by This I Love. So....I've been aching to get my hands on transcription as well.

Powerage, I'd be keen to see your interpretation if/when you're ready to share - - and thanks for the clues you provided!! B)

  5. In order to try to solidify myself as a contributing member to this board community – here’s what I think. I’m not trying to poke any bears out there, or to kick anyone when they are down. Just giving my 2 cents.

    1. Surprise Gigs!?!? Hook me up with more intel – I am jonesin’ BAD for more GN’R after the kick ass time in Canada (as well as a lifelong appreciation for Axl’s music and lyrical intellect, to say the least).

    2. Perhaps I’ve not been here long enough to understand Madison’s contributions to this forum or GN’R. I trust many of you know better. What I do know, is that I do not respect those in “authority” just because they are in a position of “authority”. I am confident that you will never see “Mother May I” out of me. For me, my respect must be earned. Here’s some notes on why it hadn’t been as of yesterday:

    a. In my short time here, many of her posts have seemed to me as conniving, ridiculous, negative and had a stench of under-handedness - - just one example, in every show thread must she raise the “Axl is late coming to the stage” bullshit? Simply irritating. From one of us “indians”…very annoying, but what are u gonna do - but for a “chief” to carry on??

    b. There is a huge vein of jealousy going on here too…..see post #500 and #604…..wow. See her trying to rile up Gunsguy in other posts. Stirring up shit early on in Revolver’s thread (it wasn’t about Madison – it was about REVOLVER)….haha – but here we are. Are we here simply to get backstage? Or to get factual info, make friends and most of all, celebrate the music? Nuff said.

    3. Now we have today - - Today, what she got was harsh, but hey - - if someone proclaims to be a big fan of Axl and GN’R….well, Axl’s words must have been exactly what she was fishing for in the past months. And backed into a corner, the true colors shined (see again post references above).

For me, there is enough support within this thread – let alone what’s transpired over the past months – to understand why Axl called her out and she is not a moderator. It’s hard to earn back credibility once you’ve fucked yourself. Can’t see why anyone else would need to come on here to explain…..

    Enough drama - - - SURPRISE GIGS!!!!

  6. Tonight was amazing. Not sure what else to say except i might kill myself come Sunday cause nothing in life can top this week.

I hope you're joking here, Jackie - you don't want to do that!!!.....however, I feel you - - after seeing three shows last week, I've been to heaven and back and certainly going thru some kind of withdrawl currently. Not to mention trying to regulate off the 'sleep all day, party all night time zone'. And I miss all the great folks I met along the way. We will be just fine! :)

Glad you had such an excellent adventure - thanks for sharing and enjoy tonight!

  7. All I can say is we US fans can hope that possibly since the GNR tour seems to be going well, that Axl decides to grant the US a tour. Awhile back, one of the rock stations in Dallas mentioned the GNR tour when it was starting in Asia and they all agreed it was Axl's call on whether or not to show and actually do the tour.

I'm puzzled as to why Axl doesn't do a full US tour? I can only assume it's because GNR won't sell out large venues and maybe that's what Axl wants. I don't think it's fair since Dallas has many venues all different sizes as I'm sure many US cities do. Maybe Axl would consider doing a summer festival type tour, so GNR won't be the only headliner and they won't have to do a whole hour or more a night?

There are plenty of tours coming to Dallas this year and it's only February. If Axl and GNR decide to actually tour the US and they do a show in Dallas, I will definitely get tickets, but I'm not going to dwell on whether it's a go or not. Luckily for me, many of my favorite bands are touring this year and making new music, so I'm good.

There's just not alot of demand, as you've mentioned. Arenas are too big, clubs are too small...its that 5-6k area which hits the mark yet no venues are that size. they're either 12k or 2k

How is demand estimated? Is it soley based on album sales? This and some other criteria? I should think the huge success in Asia and Canada would drive up interest and "demand" in the US, if there was any question in the first place, -- and in turn the US would be BEGGING for them to come (however, I may be biased) - - but how do they go about measuring this?

...all I know is, I cannot wait - but I must - but I don't wanna do it.....

Edited grammar error and for clarity

Umm, how about the tour in '06 had piss poor attendance? And nothing else has changed except a hush hush release of an average album that hasn't been promoted? There's no demand for GNR in the US or the world, which is why they don't have good attendance anywhere.

How do you define "good attendance"? Are there reliable stats somewhere to support? Or do you state this based on size of venues played thus far vs. potential larger ones?

And I see a point on promotion as it relates to '06….I truly was not aware there was a ’06 tour. (Don’t worry - it’s ok now, I’m here at mygnr and should be safe from making this mistake again). BUT --> I have to blame myself for not paying attention…..my punishment was to have to wait four more years to realize my dream of seeing Axl Rose perform live (in Canada). And when I finally did – I had the joy of discovering the current line-up - - and they are TREMENDOUS. So, punishment? Or, blessing? Everything for a reason……and it was a blessing for certain.

So roll that circus across the USA, GN’R……we’ll be waiting for ya!

  9. Thanks for sharing your story - - what a great experience!

GNR fans united - haha!! It's neat to hear about how everyone helped look out for you (and eachother, I know) - GNR fans are THE BEST!!

It was great meeting you in London!

    edit: fixing grammar

  10. i was sitting at center rail of restaurant, very close to where 2 of the stripping girls were at. I saw security escort one girl out once she re-dressed......the one who was least attractive, btw.

I didn't see anyone approach the other woman -- she was the one who actually instigated the lil pre-show. But just cause I didn't see it, doesn't mean they didn't talk to her too.

  11. SEXY <--- my one word review of last night's show.

    Highlights

    * Axl Rose is just amazing.......I do not have proper words to do justice

    * Ron playing to the flame, as if he was conjuring a spell

    * DJ's interaction with the crowd

    * Richard's aloof posture one minute and raging energy the next

    * Frank's beats - I danced the entire show

    Lowlites (or is that lowlifes)

A guy sitting directly in front of me winged his drink at the stage. I caught the security guy's attention (wasn't difficult as I swear he was staring at me the entire show......and I think it's the security guy in Paul Stanley's 2nd pic) - I pointed out the kid and he was quickly ejected. The odd thing is, the kid was singing, dancing, seeming to be enjoying himself - - and apparently his way of expressing enjoyment was to throw his drink at the stage. The other odd thing was that nobody else made effort to point the idiot out.....nonconfrontational much, section 123?

I was also a true pleasure to hangout with Eric, Gunsguy and Mrs. Gunsguy before the show. And Eric met Axl??!!??? That is fantastic!!

...time to pack up and head to London!
