I find it ironic that the ones criticizing Axl for doing this gig are mainly the supporters of a reunion.
A reunion would be THE MOST BLANTANT HUMONGOUS FUCKING BULLSHIT CASH GRAB and nothing else. The Moscow concert wasn't shit.
-
There's nothing wrong with a private show, obviously.
However, what makes me wonder is whether Axl was late to such a show or if for the rich he could be on time?
Probably the show started later than a standard gig though so there was no need to be late.
According to the article, he arrived there at 2 a.m. when all the bands were supposed to arrive at 8 p.m. Guards were notified of his arrival 40 minutes before he showed up. They were asked to arrange 'a green corridor' so all celebrities were asked to leave the VIP area and proceed to the general admission area.
To attend the show, a guest had to pay about USD 1000. But unless he/she had personal connections, there's no way to get there. The gig cost USD 1 million.
Thanks!
It's kinda cool that the filthy rich had to wait like everyone else. B)

I doubt they'd wait around. I think it's one lineup or the other, not both.
Exactly, you can't have it both ways. A mini-tour with the original lineup and then back to the new one? Seems impossible.

I think it would have been better, definitely.
edit: I think the entire album could have been better with about 70% less guitar wankery.
Awesome term!
However, this guitar wankery is probably the thing i love the most about Chinese. Seriously, it's what I've been missing in rock albums these days.
Take TWAT for example, for me it's 90% about the guitar. It's over the top, sure, but awesome nonetheless.

Slash may sound like he is de la Hoya, but he's the fuckin Vargas
Thanks, lol, I would never have guessed it and I'm a boxing fan.
-
Shit I can't understand what he's saying there about slash around 2:55 mark.
Slash may sound like a ?????? but he's a fucking ?????, that's how it is.

5:
2 for me (normal and the big box edition)

This reunion talk is just so very stupid.
There is absolutely no reason to begin talking about reunion.....and as a reunion would really be a DOWNgrade, why would anybody even want that????
The Guns and Roses is right now better than EVER.
That's how I see it as well. The only plus of a reunion is positive press and media coverage. Is that really important?
I care about the music not the bullshit so I don't want a reunion.
Having said that, Duff for 1 or a couple of shows is awesome of course.

Pearl Jam hasn't had a hit in years, how the hell are they that big a draw?
It seems to me that in recent years they've become really popular among older audience. As in middle aged old. They somehow have this classic rebel vibe but it's tame enough to be palatable for even the most casual, older rock fans.
And they probably give good concerts.

The funny thing to me, is anytime threads about this song are started, alot of non-us members defend it, and I'm always like, "you dumbass, it is you he is talking about."
So non-US = immigrant?
The reason why non-US members defend the song is because their perception is not as skewed by the aggressively promoted notion of political correctness. It's a real problem, it even prevents some from whistling a tune they like in public because of a ridiculous sense of guilt and shame.
I'm definitely against using the word black person in a derogatory way but should one really be ashamed to like One in a Million? The lyrics are written from the perspective of an ignorant, angry person, that much is obvious. But should the song be censored because of that? IMO definitely not. I love the song, one of my favorites.

They certainly were selling it in Prague. It was all over the area with the shirts and shit.

I'm tired of reading about all this BS. Check out one complete show from..let's say 92. Axl has always run of stage during songs and in between songs. These periods were always filled with band jams, guitar solos, drum solos, or just quietness.
And yes..he had an oxygen tank back then too. There are documentaries where it says so. "No smoking. It's because of an oxygen thing."
So please stop bitchin about the past if you're gonna be hopelessly inaccurate.
C'mon that's impossible! Everyone knows it's because Axl's old and washed up and there's no Slash around. After all it says so in every goddamn review.

Initially I struggled with the lyrics as I thought they were cliche but it's possible that the persona is meant to be ironic. As in it's a persona that's deluded through infatuation, rather than Axl himself bleeding his heart out. You should always seperate the persona in a song from the artist themselves. Axl is not above using irony as we see in If the World so I don't think it's too much of a stretch to suggest that the lyrics of This I Love are somewhat tongue in cheek.
That's how I see it as well. The lyrics and the delivery are so cheesy and over the top that I just can't take them seriously. That's probably why I really like the song, it's so absurd in its sentimality that it actually works.
Much of old GnR was over the top in a similar way, I don't see much of an inconsistency there. For me This I Love is less cringeworthy than Don't Cry, that's for sure.

It's nice to see how the press is reacting to Prague's show. I would never believe that I will read mostly sliglty positive reviews. Some are complainin about the deley, but most admit, that the show was blast. I have read only one really negative review (out of like 10 or so), but it was fucking obvious that the writer is Slash's fan, not Guns N' Roses fan and a real jerk.
BTW there is an interestig story about a really wanted man convicted about financial cheating arrested while goin to the GNR gig with his family.
Could you post links to some of these reviews? I'd love to have a look at them (can be in Czech), I think I've only stumbled on the one written by the Slash fan.

Irish Independent review:
t's 10.24pm. Normally, this is the time you hear the headline act bellowing, "Goodnight Dublin." There would be a short interval and perhaps a few encores.
But at 10.24pm on Wednesday night, the house lights finally go down in the O2 and Guns N' Roses take to the stage to the relief of a very impatient crowd.
The scenes that follow were some kind of live musical equivalent of GUBU. It's grotesque, unbelievable, bizarre and totally unprecedented.
Seconds into the second song, 'Welcome to the Jungle', Axl Rose suddenly halts the performance after a water bottle is tossed on stage. "Here's the deal," he says. "One more bottle and we go. We don't want to go."
After five appalling numbers, Bottlegate part 2. "That's it. Thank you. Goodnight. Have a nice evening." The punters next to me who have driven up from Cork leave, as do many fans. Axl Rose clearly has zero consideration for the paying audience, venue staff and promoters.
A stagehand announces that there are "technical difficulties". And he is dealing with -- technically -- one of the most difficult artists in the world.
Astonishingly, promoter Dennis Desmond himself takes to the stage.
"Sincere apologies about this. We're trying hard to get Axl to come back on-stage. I would ask you please to refrain from throwing items at him. I promise you a great show, but we need calm, please. If you could bear with us for five minutes. Thank you for your patience," he tells the crowd.
The house lights go down after another uncertain interval and the band finally return and launch into a rendition of 'Live and Let Die'.
Bizarrely, one of Axl's hired guns announces, "C'mon Dublin, don't let yourselves down".
It is his own frontman that has let everyone down. There is a telling contrast to how Slash entertained a fervent crowd at Vicar Street recently and treated the audience with respect and heartfelt appreciation.
Those words clearly aren't in Axl Rose's vocabulary. He insists on performing track after track from the flop of an album that is 'Chinese Democracy'.
Admittedly, the band do a decent take on 'Sweet Child O'Mine', but Axl looks like he couldn't give a monkeys and their playing unashamedly apes Slash.
The 'show' eventually ends at 1am sharp. If you've missed your last bus or DART, tough.
The washed up bad joke that is Axl Rose should retire from live performances with immediate effect until he cops on and learns some basic manners.
Christ...
How come they're not concerned with the risk that throwing objects is to the "paying audience". How fucking retarded is that? It is a real danger.
How come there's so much boiling hate towards Axl. It sucks he was late but everyone's acting as if he killed someone, I just don't get it.

Oh, I thought it had to be somewhere in the original "Slash attire" thread. Thanks.
-
Is the original thread still here somewhere? I can't seem to find it.

2006 was 4 years ago... didn't he said last year that he wanted Slash and his fans removed?
Where did you hear that?
Ali
when he called Slash a cancer, didn't he said it was better to remove him and his fans as he was like a cancer?.. or something like it
Yeah it was in the 2009 Del James interview. It's on the official site.
"In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided -- and the less anyone heard of him or his supporters, the better."
-
Can't wait for the reunion
Yeah, it's all coming together rather nicely isn't it?
-
Someone needs to take a cell phone video outside a show if security starts this no Slash shirt bullshit again.
Which leads to another matter: there's always plenty of people with recording equipment (not just cellphones) at the shows as the youtube videos prove and Axl hates recording the shows. Still these guys somehow manage to get the video cameras inside while the guys in VR shirts can't get in.
Kinda silly.

I'm aware of how the site is run and how it's far more restrictive than this site in terms of what can be said. But, how do you know that he's not on tour because of the way he chooses to run his site on his accord, and not that he runs his site the way he does in exchange for going on tour? I mean, has this ever been proven? Not suspected, but proven. Have I missed something regarding this that came out?
Ali
So, in other words, even something as blantant as Jarmo's servitude is not proovable unless he comes right out and says "Well yes, I am just a starstruck fan who's completely under their thumb. Thanks for asking!"
C'mon.
Isn't it possible he's just obsessed with Axl and is real rich and can afford to go to all these shows?
I'm not saying he's not being paid, just asking out of curiosity.
Who Else Thinks...

I think he's using this argument because he knows it's probably the most important argument the public has against Axl. Slash knows the late starts continue to be unpopular so he just rubs it in.
