  1. Wow. Didn't see that in my 2/10 forecast. Very unfortunate, madison. I think that Eric is making a huge mistake. But in a lot of ways, I think you are much better off.

I would like to go on record stating that I think this is a very poor decision, and one that will change this forum drastically for the worse.

On a somewhat more personal note, I've always been interested in collaborating with you. I'd like for you to consider bringbackgnr.com.

    It's coming Summer 2010 ...

    Starring: BBA, Madison, & "Guests"

Folks who have had involvement with this website's development have described the layout as "mind blowing" and "epic". Others have been quoted as saying, "It is unlike any other gnr site out there. This will be the mother of all GNR sites."

To say the making of this forum has been an unbearably long and incomprehensible journey would be an understatement. But people will see a forum this year.

  2. Do some of you just not get it?

BBF, Richard, Frank, and the rest of the "band" Axl has on his payroll are pawns. Nothing more. Period. It is NOT a band.

It's basically Axl Rose telling a group of unestablished musicians to do this - and not to do that - and if they do this specific thing they will be fired. If you don't think this is reality, you are lying to yourself. That's why Axl no longer has the all-star cast of musicians that the world wants to see behind him (Slash, Izzy, Duff, etc). They wouldn't allow Axl to control them. Now, Axl is forced to employ different musicians every couple years so he can have this full control that he is looking for. Think about it .. did any of you even know who Fortus, Frank, Pittman, etc were before Axl started paying them? After he started watching guys like BH, Robin, and Freese bail on his ass it started sinking in that he wouldn't be able to find & keep any respectable musician (with an ounce of pride) who would be willing to operate this way, so he knew a group of virtual unknowns - with no other options - were his only resort. It's sad, but it is in fact reality.

No other band on earth gives answers like "no comment" or "I really don't know what's going on in the band" (that I am supposedly a part of). It's not normal and there is no other way to explain such abused, subserviant behavior. Their roles are to play their instrument (the way Axl wants it to be played) and to shut their fucking mouth. That's it. It should be painfully obvious that this is the case and I truly feel sorry for anyone who feels as though this isn't true.

Deal with it guys. It's fucking sad.

  3. OTTAWA — "Is he an only child," the 20-something woman asks about Axl Rose, who by this point on Sunday at Scotiabank Place has kept 8,000 fans waiting for almost 90 minutes. "Hurry the f-ck up man, people are waiting," says the young woman, who, like her mother standing next to her, has a sloshing cup of frothy draught beer in her hand. “I’ve wanted to see this show for 20 years,” her mother says. So what’s another half hour?

Axl Rose has made such a business of keeping fans waiting that they'd probably be disappointed if he did show up on time. It was almost midnight when he took the stage here a few years ago. It was 11:15 p.m. Sunday when he finally appeared with his latest version of Guns N’ Roses – though calling it that seems silly, liking watching Paul McCartney and pretending you saw the Beatles.

It began with Chinese Democracy, and the song, like the album of the same name that was 13 years or so in the making, hardly seemed worth the wait. None of the songs that Rose has written since Slash and Izzy Stradlin left the band can stand with the earlier work. No better evidence was needed than the skittering guitar line that told the crowd the next song was Welcome to the Jungle, the monster from their 1987 breakthrough album Appetite for Destruction.

This was the trade-off that fans got all night long – a song from 2008’s Chinese Democracy and then a song from the back catalogue. Next came 1987’s It’s So Easy, complete with chest-constricting explosions on stage, and then another vintage GNR track, Mr. Brownstone. “The show usually starts around seven/
We go on stage around nine,” the song goes. Who says Rose has no sense of humour?

Rose seemed in high spirits, running full-out from one wing of the large stage to the other, rather impressively for a 47-year-old man who’s had his share of decadent living. He was talkative, too. After one of many wardrobe changes he told us he’d ripped his pants. “I blew my ass out.” This knowledge made it a bit scarier when he tried that serpentine shuffle he used to do so well back in the day, when he was younger and more limber.

They played Sorry and Better, two more from Chinese Democracy, before guitarist Richard Fortus kicked into Live and Let Die. This cover of McCartney’s song has long been a highlight of any GNR show, but the limitations of Rose’s voice were uncharacteristically apparent. He can still twist out that raspy howl, but his vocal cords, which serve an intensely demanding master, were crapping out on the high end, and elsewhere.

Sweet Child o’ Mine was his greatest test. Rose, in yet another new shirt, audibly clipped the first “whooaaaaaa, sweet child o’ mine,” but the crowd picked up the vocal slack quick enough.

The crowd was into it, though by 12:30 Monday morning it was a long way from 8 p.m., when most fans had arrived to see openers Danko Jones and Sebastian Bach. By 1 a.m. some fans were putting on their coats and leaving, thinking about work in a few hours, no doubt. Too bad. They missed Bubbles, from Trailer Park Boys, and they missed Guns’ classics such as the ballistic You Could Be Mine, Patience, and Paradise City, which closed the show at 2 a.m.

Rose stuck around and served shots of booze to a couple of fans down front. It was like he didn’t want to leave, and why would he? He’s a classic rocker, and if there’s one thing Ottawa loves more than politics, it’s classic rock.

  4. Sonic Excess recently conducted an interview with SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

Sonic Excess: Why do you think SLAYER has had such a lasting influence and cultural impact?

Lombardo: I think maybe because we've been consistent. We're dependable. This is the first time in 24 or 25 years that we have cancelled any kind of touring. It's not Axl Rose throwing a hissy fit and not doing a show. Our singer had to go into surgery, and in 24 years we have not missed a show. For the kind of music that we play, there is a physical demand that it takes. I think that's pretty cool. I think that says a lot for the band's reputation; that we're there, that we're loyal to the style of music that we play.

  5. According to a journalist who attended the show ...

While certainly impressive at times, I couldn’t help saying to myself repeatedly how this just wasn’t worth staying up for. Sorry Axl; I know you probably don’t care that my kids had school the next day, or that I’d have to take a cab because the buses and subway in Toronto stop running at 1:30. Not many of us get to sleep in like you do, you know?

Mercifully, we DIDN’T get a 3 hour performance, as the band has been doing with surprising frequency since embarking on this Canadian tour a few weeks ago — Making my way out as “Paradise City” sent us all home into the night just before 2 AM as confetti and streamers went off was MORE than enough for this old-time rocker, thank you very much!

I was really, really hoping that I would be convinced that Axl Rose’s “new and improved” version of GN’R deserved my support. I’ve been a fan since 1988, but I’m not someone who continuously pines for the names of yore, the ones we all know and love — Slash…Izzy…Duff…Adler… Get over it folks; a reunion with Axl ain’t never gonna happen, and not for all the money in the world, apparently.

Maybe it’s my tiredness that’s still talking, but the payoff just wasn’t there for me. That’s not to say there isn’t potential — Get your $#!% together, Axl, stop jerking us around, and start your shows at a decent time. You have a lot of fans who’d be willing to give you one more chance, myself included.

  6. Guns N' Roses Lose 'Patience' in Toronto

Waiting for Axl Rose is a state most Guns N' Roses fans are well accustomed to by now. It famously took 15 years for Rose to release 'Chinese Democracy.' Then almost two more years for Axl and his hired Guns to take it on a tour which is currently crossing Canada.

Still, the mood was getting tumultuous in Toronto's Air Canada Center last night as the clocked crept towards 11:30pm and the boos let up only when a lady doffed her top for the jumbotron. It was starting to get worrisome. After all, GN'R has sparked two full fledged riots in Canada -- in Montreal in 1992 and in Vancouver a decade later.

Then Axl rolled out in a wheelchair and did something utterly unexpected. He apologized. "Sorry abut the time delay," he said with a sheepish grin beneath his new handlebar mustache. "I got carried away jumping off sh-- last night."

Alas, the two-hour delay meant songs had to be cut from Guns N' Roses setlist to finish by 2am -- ironically including 'Patience.'

But after a tepid response to 'Chinese Democracy' as the opening track, all seemed forgiven the second the Axl screeched, "You know where you are? You're in the jungle, Toronto, you're gonna dieeee." They then barreled headfirst into 'Appetite for Destruction' classics 'It's So Easy' and 'Mr Brownstone.'

Unlike their past two tours, this was Axl's chance to properly trot out his new songs – unfortunately, 'Chinese Democracy' resembles those 'Star Wars' prequels. Aside from a few flashes of greatness -- encore number 'Madagascar' is a 'November Rain' style epic purpose-built for stadium performances while aching ballad 'This I Love' provided nice counterpoint -- the songs just don't have much soul.

Same goes for Axl's band -- they're an extremely talented bunch, especially onetime Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson and new, Slash-esque guitar hero DJ Ashba -- but as fans discussed ad nauseum during the delay, they're not quite the same.

"We're gonna do this for our good friend J.D. Salinger, who passed away today," Axl said mid-concert, launching into 'Catcher in the Rye.' It was an interesting callout because of the similarities -- and differences -- the two men share. Both were reclusive artistic geniuses whose early work encapsulated the aimless anger of youth. But while Salinger holed up in his home and adamantly refused to follow-up his seminal work, Rose almost drove himself crazy trying to outdo his past. Ultimately, he failed and, in doing so, lessened his legend.

  7. Guns N' Roses Prove Sometimes You Can't Go Back Home Again

I've wanted to see Guns N' Roses since I was 12 years old.

I came close once. In 2002, I had a ticket to see them in Vancouver, but Axl never showed up. People rioted.

Two years ago, I even saw a Guns N' Roses cover band called Gunts N' Roses, with an Axl stand-in that looked more like Vince Neil from Motley Crue. It was one of the rowdiest shows I've ever seen.

These are the trials and tribulations Guns N' Roses fans are willing to endure — cancelled gigs, 15-year gaps between (bad) albums and yes, a group of hired guns playing our favourite songs — all because 20-some-odd years ago, this band made a record called Appetite For Destruction.

It's how a band that are a shadow of what they once were managed to pack the Air Canada Centre, and it's how a hardened, cynical 28-year old reviewer can time-warp back into his idealistic young self.

Hitting the stage at 11:30 p.m., a mere two hours after their scheduled start time, Rose and company managed to drop seven tracks of that immortal LP. Unfortunately, they also played nine off of the bloated turd that was Chinese Democracy, including three during a four-song encore that pushed the night up to the 2 a.m. mark.

Given this was billed as the "Chinese Democracy Tour," the glut of new material was to be expected. Freed from the claustrophobic production of the record, songs like "Better," "Shackler's Revenge" and opener "Chinese Democracy" sounded pretty great. But ballads like "Street Of Dreams," "Sorry" and "Madagascar" felt increasingly grating as the night progressed with the knowledge that I was going to miss the last subway home.

Appetite's trifecta of hits — "Welcome To The Jungle," "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "Paradise City" — were sprinkled throughout the set, but the band seemed sluggish during these tracks, perhaps due to their "hafta play them" nature. Deeper cuts from the album fared better, especially "Rocket Queen."

But the night's highlight came from a pair of tracks from the too often ignored Use Your Illusion albums. "November Rain" and the still menacing "You Could Be Mine" were where the band seemed to really pull it all together and proved worthy of the ridiculous adulation their fans still bestow upon them.

Rose seemed in incredibly good spirits, joking that the group were, essentially, hungover from partying the night before, and telling stories, a stark contrast to the public perception of the reclusive singer who was too temperamental for the guy that wore the KFC bucket on his head.

Rose's voice hasn't deteriorated at all, and between frequent trips to a little black hut on the side of the stage, he rarely stopped moving around the stage. The band, which now includes long-time bass player and ex-Replacement Tommy Stinson, guitarists Bumble Foot, Richard Fortus and DJ Ashba, drummer Frank Ferrer and sole-early '90s hold-over Dizzy Reed on keyboards, were equally as animated.

Guns N' Roses circa 2010 can definitely cut it in technical proficiency — all are talented musicians. They're not exactly left in the background while Rose takes the spotlight (all three guitarists got their own instrumental solos). But the sense of menace and seething anger is missing from the current incarnation. It's what drew me to them as an impressionable 12-year-old.

While Rose still carries these qualities with him everywhere he goes, the rest of the band seem subservient to his whims. It's not that the original line-up didn't have to deal with his antics; they put up with quite a lot, in fact. But the group always felt like a unit who had lived the nihilistic lyrics of their songs and had come together to take on the world. It's a quality that you can't replicate and no matter how good this band gets, Guns N' Roses will never have that again.

  8. This has got to be the most anti-rock n’ roll news of the week. Axl Rose apparently ordered security at a recent show to force anyone wearing ‘Slash gear’ to turn their clothing inside out before being granted entry. Some fans turned around a left, while others complied.

The buffoonery was confirmed by TMZ, who reportedly made contact with the band’s tour staff to verify the claim.

So why would they stoop so low? Well, for those of you who haven’t been keeping up with GnR drama, here’s a quick refresher:

Slash and Axl have been in the midst of a bizarre falling out for quite some time. The Guardian reports that the top hot wearing, chain smoking, whisky-guzzling guitarist even refused a deal worth ‘hundreds of millions’ of dollars to reunite with the band.

About his relationship with the singer, he said:

“Things were so abrasive by the time I left…I’ve never thought, ‘Oh, wouldn’t it be nice to get back together’. Because I know it wouldn’t.”

I guess the feelings are mutual for Rose, who said: “One of the two of us will die before a reunion.”

For the average person, the idea of denying that much money over some hard feelings is beyond comprehension.

But the reality is that there has to be a good energy flow between band members for things to work out.

That part of it I can understand, but taking your little feud out on fans? That’s absurd. Maybe it’s time to grow up be thankful that people are still following the band after leaving them hanging with no record for decades, only to release a weak album like ‘Chinese Democracy.’

Let us know what you think of the Guns N’ Roses dress code below. Also, check out some photos, and a video from the good ‘ole days. (SCOM Video)

    http://fashion.rightcelebrity.com/?p=830

  9. Isn't going backstage with the actual new band members a bit different than just attending the concert. It would have been more respectful to the new members to not have the old members on t-shirts.

It would have been more respectful to the original members if Axl didn't put contractual employees up on stage and call it Guns N Roses.

The "hits" are their (Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff, and Steve) songs that others are covering for financial gain. Axl N the employees need to fucking deal with it.

  10. If someone here did tip off the media then they deserve all the shit that comes their way. Really can't imagine anything more pathetic.

 Yeah, God forbid someone reports something that's entertainment news to an entertainment news site. What are you going to do? Internet them to death, bad ass? :shades:

Check the age listed in his profile. It should help to explain.

According to him, having 'AFD' played in the background as he was being breast fed by his mommy is equally as impressive as having been there first hand.

  11. You're just as disrespectful of the younger users as BBA and rancid_punks are. That "it amazes me how kids will go to such lengths to re-register" BS is uncalled for, especially since the user who you continually let back, BBA, is the one "bashing" the kids. Don't let your bias be so damned obvious, please.

^ Aww..... did the big meanie Madison strike a nerve with a little boy too. Yep. Think she did

Anyone seeing a trend here? Just for the record, this guy wasn't even born when Axl n Slash were last onstage. Think about that.

  12. Hahaha! I feel so special! If you check my profile, I joined, for the first time, in November of 2009. I am NOT a banned member, but I feel honored that you feel that I am. I have also been a fan of this band for 20+ years, but it doesn't take age to see the chemistry between the original members, just as it doesn't take age to see that that they have all moved on. It is time for the fans to move on. But, again, thank you Madison for thinking that my post is experienced enough to come from a former forum member. :rofl-lol::rolleyes: Just because someone has a differing opinion, does that mean that they are a banned member? I wasn't attacking anyone, but maybe you should ask Lethal Weapon the "banned member" question.... :shrugs:

Debbie-I've done half of-Georgia, you are obviously here to provoke Madison and shit stir. Even if you aren't a former banned member, you're obviously an ignorant one if you are trying to suggest that some teenager is more knowledgeable of a band and its members that I have personally seen and followed for the better part of the past twenty some years. Just because your trailer has a dial up internet connection that your daughter can access doesn't mean that she has a clue about the onstage chemistry that Axl and Slash shared - a chemistry that I have personally witnessed first hand.

If you're only agenda here is to disrespect Madison and try to create some mutiny against her, please fuck off. We don't need anyone reinforcing some naive kid's fantasy that they are a "true fan" cos they are deluded enough to kiss Axl Rose's ass regardless of how assinine and paranoid he has become over the years.

  13. Yeah, that would've been fun to see Steven going through the motion's and falling onto his drum kit..

You plan on answering my question or are you going to post more public thing's about my profile?

    Age: 19 years old

Birthday: October 15, 1990 (check his profile)

No ... No. Please continue educating me on the band. It isn't funny or anything.

  14. So you being in a old folk's home at the present time give's you more say over fans of the band how exactly?

    Age: 19 years old

    Birthday: October 15, 1990

^ Uh-oh. Looks like a struck a nerve with the little man. This cat wasn't even around for Steven's last performance.

  15. I think someone is jealous.

    Age: 19 years old

Birthday: May 14, 1990 (check his profile)

^ Looks like someone is a bit naive and easily confused.

Do the math, guys. He was just over 1 year old when the Illusions dropped. He was 2 months old for Steven Adler's last performance with the band. Just sayin.

  16. Hey, guys. Looks like Blabbermouth picked up this chump's story. I can't believe he has the audacity to lie to the fans the way that he does. I imagine there is some concern on his part. He's probably thinking * if Axl's coverband's ticket sales hurt as a result of this truth being exposed, I might have to go and get myself a real job - and not be able to milk my mom's client for everything that he's worth. Think about it. What else is he qualified to do? "Would you like to supersize that combo for an extra 49 cents, sir?" Let's boycott'm guys. Pretty sad and pathetic indeed.

GUNS N' ROSES Representative Denies SLASH Gear Ban At Winnipeg Concert - Jan. 24, 2010

Fernando Lebeis, the son of Beta Lebeis — GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose's personal assistant — has denied reports that security at GN'R's Winnipeg concert banned fans from wearing Slash gear inside the show.

According to TMZ.com, concert security informed fans at the January 13 show that they were required to turn their Slash t-shirts inside out .... and leave their top hats outside.

TMZ.com spoke with a member of the concert security team who "confirmed the marching orders — and told [the web site] the instructions were passed down from a producer for the band."

However, Fernando Lebeis has denied that any such ban ever took place. Writing on a GN'R message board, he said, "We did not advise any security to ban any sort of apparel.... If they did, they did it on their own accord, or under someone else's order — from within their management."

    http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=133957

  17. This is kind of hilarious that it is now going main stream.

Once TMZ picks up on a story, it is likely to spread to other similar places. I would fully expect to see Perez Hilton picking up on this soon, as well as many other gossip sites that piggy back off of TMZ.

It looks as if the ball is already rolling with other sites picking up the story as well.

Shame. Hope it doesn't hurt Axl from being able to cash grab too badly this year.

Ouch. Here's one more. I sure hope this doesn't start spreading like wild fire.

    http://www.411mania.com/music/news/127857/Guns-N-Roses-Concert-Bans-Slash-Gear.htm

  18. **And No - I did not tip off TMZ about this, in case anyone was wondering.

In case anyone else is wondering, I didn't go to the TMZ webpage and submit this at the bottom of the page where it says 'Submit a hot tip'.

    http://www.tmz.com/.

If this news were to become more public it wouldn't be good for the "band".

  19. Wow, you are pathetically transparent in your attempts to selectively look at the facts. Perhaps you missed this thread: http://www.mygnrforum.com/index.php?showtopic=158092

Of course Slash is now saying that there is no chance of a reunion. Did you miss the newsflash last year when Axl (like a dick) made this perfectly clear when he called Slash a "cancer", "media whore", "liar", and basically dissed his guitar playing? What do you expect Slash to say after that? "Yeah, I think there's a really good chance".

Much like your judgement, I received an 'Error' when clicking that link. Not surprised.

Or maybe you forgot the fact that Slash was available and at the venue in 2007 and refused to get up on stage and play with Izzy, Steven and Duff at the Appetite Anniversary show Steven organized?

Hmm ... did you ever (even for a second) stop to think that Slash did that out of respect for Axl. If you recall, Slash spent much of 2007 trying to make ammends with Axl by praising the guy up and down. Do you think that maybe - just maybe - he didn't get up there because he didn't want to try and make it look like he was pressuring Axl to do something that hadn't even been discussed? Out of respect to Axl, maybe?

Oh, and about that refusal of admission to anyone wearing Slash shirts. You should check the Edmonton thread about that. If it didn't happen at Edmonton, then it wasn't a GN'R policy. If it was, it would have happened at every show.

Last I heard, Madison said it was confirmed by a reliable source. If I recall correctly, she does not allow or condone unsubstantiated rumors to be posted. Are you trying to suggest that she now does?

  20. After all, you make it sound as if Axl is the only that holds keys to this door and assume that the others would be totally on board with the idea

That's true. Judging by the below comments, it's hard to tell which guy is the one responsible from preventing this Haiti benefit from happening. I'm not saying Axl is a bad guy. I'm just saying that looking at the facts before me, it's pretty obvious that the man doesn't care about anybody but himself. At least he'll be able to buy his 4th porsche and make that 15k per month mortgage payment once he gets back to Malibu. Plus, he'll be able to sleep good at night knowing that he refused admission to anyone wearing a Slash shirt. That's pretty important and noble too.

Duff (2009) recently told Rolling Stone, I love Axl, so maybe a mini-reunion is in order.

    http://germany.real.com/music/artist/Guns_N_Roses/articles/392371/-related-articles-page-1/

Slash 2007: I would say it would be a good idea to get, just for a couple of shows, to get the original STP and

the original Guns N' Roses to do a couple of shows for the fun of it."

    http://www.metalunderground.com/news/details.cfm?newsid=25611

Steven 2007: "Whatever the STONES make when they play, we'd triple it. It'd be ridiculous not to do it. He can't be that goofy."

    http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=77756

But if it were to occur, you would consider the possibility of a reunion?

Izzy 2008: Yes, of course. I wrote a great deal of that material."

    http://chinese-democracy.blogspot.com/2008/11/exclusive-interview-with-izzy-stradlin.html

Would you consider a reunion with the 'Appetite' or 'Illusions' lineups?

    Axl 2009: No.

    http://www.spinner.com/2009/02/27/axl-rose-insists-original-guns-n-roses-lineup-is-dead-and-burie/

  21. the people in this thread are weird to me.

who cares who asked/offered/suggested a reunion to axl to help the people of haiti? the question is why won't/wouldn't he do it, instead of making this stupid statement.

This pointless statement from Axl makes it look like like he doesn't care about anybody but himself. He has the option of performing an act of charity that could GREATLY benefit a good cause, or continue on with his 4th tour in support of the same boring ass album so he can put a few bucks in his own pocket. And by the sounds of it, he's apparently choosing the latter of the 2.

I'm starting to wonder if this is the kind of guy that I want to support.

  22. Check out this website. It's gives a list of celebrities and a synopsis of what they plan to do to support the Haiti relief efforts. Well, everyone but one guy.

Way to be, Axl! You don't look foolish, petty, or vindictive. Your 4th tour in support of the same album is equally as important.

    Golden Globes Fascinating Fact

January 18th, 2010 Stars at the Golden Globe Awards in rain-soaked Hollywood all attached red 'Remember Haiti' ribbons to gowns and clutch bags in an effort to persuade film and TV fans to donate to the post-earthquake relief effort. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association - the group behind the Globes - has donated $1 million (?625,000) to various Haiti-based charities fighting to help the victims of Tuesday's (12Jan10) 7.0-magnitude quake.

Rose Dismisses Guns N' Roses Reunion For Haiti

January 18th, 2010 AXL ROSE has ruled out any chance of an original GUNS N' ROSES reunion, insisting even the Haiti earthquake wouldn't prompt him to stage a one-off charity get together. The rocker fired off a Twitter.com post to ex-bandmate Slash last week after the guitarist suggested a big-name concert should be arranged to help the relief effort in Haiti.
