  1. Things are really good at the moment.

He's using his clean/Mickey voice more than in 2006 or 2010, but it sounds better overall. Not sure if this is something with the mix, or better control on Axl's part, but it carries superbly well in the stadiums. Never too high or low. And he can still rasp as hard as ever at times.

Phone vids and their bad mikes do not do the shows justice. Axl is on fire out there.

  2. Per show? I believe its established that most members are contracted and receive a salary.

Not all are equal, most are in the low six figures, certainly none of the hired hands earns seven.

No doubt its a nice thing to have that retainer when the band is idle, but frustrating that they are rarely freed up to do anything else.

  3. It's been proven that the public doesn't really give a fuck about the album concept anymore.

If we are lucky enough to get new GNR material, I'd be more than fine with a hodgepodge of different styles. Actually, I think that's what I would want. Obviously Axl has a varied taste as well, so it wouldn't be an enormous surprise.

I think a straight-up, more old-school sounding song would be awesome to hear.

  4. Hadn't formed an opinion on him one way or the other until I saw them in Jan 2010.

DJ is the real deal, and a great fit with the band.

He plays the old stuff with the right kind of tone. It all just sounds right. If you had seen the band with Finck, they were great, but something was just off.

I could do without some of his pandering to the crowd, but they eat it up for the most part. Chicks seem to dig him.

Looking forward to seeing what he contributes to new material. Guy has chops as a writer.

  5. He's Axl Rose.

He's the very best at what he does, he's also pretty fucking crazy. Most things you hear about him have at least some basis in truth.

Buy a ticket and there's a slight chance you'll find yourself in the middle of a riot, but a very high chance that you'll see the best show of your life.

  6. Where are all the whiners saying that Axl should hang it up? That YOU THINK he needs to rehearse more. So he was off pitch on a FEW songs in a driving rainstorm in Rio, with tech probs, after being MIA for a year.

Comes out 3 days later and he sounds like its 1993 again.

Guy who sings like that should preserve his instrument as much as he can. Took him one show to get warmed up. Axl doesn't need practice.

If you can - make sure you see this band.

  7. I eagerly awaited Chinese Democracy, and am glad I finally got to hear it. I wasn't disappointed, but wasn't blown out of the water either.

It's not Appetite, nor does it pretend to be. Like has been said time and time again throughout this thread - that record was a perfect storm of the right people, at the right station of their lives, and came at the perfect time in contemporary culture. The result was iconic. Whether you choose to acknowledge that fact or not, it's the reason we are all in this forum today.

The love for AFD is so passionate, even after all this time. I think that's why many people are indifferent towards Chinese. It doesn't sound like Appetite, because Axl didn't even try to. Why would he? It's a completely different band, he's twice the age he was then, it's a different time. I have no problem with the album at all. It's so complex and layered that it's very interesting to listen to again and again. Axl sounds as good as ever.

Still, I have this ridiculous, child-like hope that Guns N' Roses could repeat the magic - and turn out a mind blowing, anthemic rock album that stops you dead in your tracks the first time you hear it. I feel that Axl is such a talented individual that if anyone could ever propel a band to those type of heights again, it is him. I think he could bring back rock and roll. It's an insane thought, really. But I think that's what keeps me so interested in GNR. The fact that I think they COULD.

I don't know if a reunited original lineup would be necessary to do it, but I suspect it would. I think the public would be more accepting of the idea, and there is certainly a demand for that. You put those ingredients together again and it's hard to imagine they wouldn't come up with something incredible.
