  1. I'm ridiculously suprised by the negativity...

I think this is his best stuff since leaving Guns. Anastacia has such a bad ass groove, haven't heard anything like it since Rocket Queen.

    One last Love

    You're a lie

    Halo

    Anastasia

    Hard and Fast

    Carolina

Are my picks of the bunch so far, but the others are far from filler. I think this album makes his last album sound a bit 'lacking', and for the most part I think that is a solid album.

I love everything about this album, yeah, sure would probably sound better with Classic Axl's Rasp wailing over the Riffs, but I'm more than happy with Myles Kennedy.

I'm not sure I care about Velvet Revolver reforming is this is the standard of his output, unless they make a crazy singer appointment like Steven Tyler aha

  2. I do really like Myles and do really appreciate what how he sings, especially opening scream and the background 'LIAR' 'chant'/'screach' (?) in the chorus but the whole thing cried out for Axl Rose.

It doesn't sound Guns n Roses, it does sound Velvet Revolverish and it does sound modern Axl Rose.

Got to say though, listen to the sample about 3 times and then the full version twice, all through ear phones. Just, before posting here, listened to it full blast on some external speakers and it was a whole different beast, so anyone passing judgement or writing it off before they play it through a stereo or in the car, don't.

  3. Slash clearly had intelligent things to say but was far too fucked to say anything with any real conviction or clarity.

He was also the only one, it seemed, to be giving an alternative view. The others just seemed to want to back-pat each other and take the piss out of the drunken Rockstar.

  4. It's almost cliché to say it's his best solo, but it really is. Everything about it just flows so nicely. The beautiful bends in the first half, the sheer speed and aggression in the second half, and a good mix of the harmonic minor with the blues and pentatonic scales.

    This.

He just fucking tears through that guitar half way through that solo.

  5. well what else does that mean then, why say THE NAME Guns n Roses in mid-sentence? I'm sure he isn't that calculated but at the same time i don't think he spews random gibberish out of his mouth, it does mean something.

Because it concerns the name more than the current band.

The problem isn't the fact that the original 5 have split and all have their own projects and bands, it's that Axl has called his new 'peoject' Guns n Roses.

No1 cares if Axl plays with Bucket or whoever the fuck he likes, they care that he does it under the GnR name and legacy.

It's not a dig at Axl or the people involved in the current interpretation of GnR, it's not even a dig. It's just stating that the name has become the biggest issue.

  6. Axl is a million times more talented than Kurt ever was. He beats him on every level as a performer, vocals, songwriting, charisma-I could go on and on! There's no contest really. Kurt was good but if he hadn't died young he wouldn't be held to the standard he is. He's not in the same league as Axl whatever anyone says.

    Completely agree with this.

You're bigger when your dead. He died in his prime...his legacy cannot be tainted...Axl got old, fat and hired DJ Ashba :/

But...the lyrics are still there. Axl is one of the greatest lyricists and, in my opinion, the best Rock vocalist ever. (I'd accept top 3 in any poll behind Tyler and Plant).

  7. Ghost has been used by Kerrang for the little 'This is Kerrang radio' bits and as background music for competition talks etc. Kerrang also use Beautiful Dangerous to state their music genre. They play a current artist big in the charts, like Jessie J and say 'no' then blast BD and shout 'Yes'.

Never heard CD songs played on the radio. Not that I'd be against that. Any songs from the classic guns, together or on various other projects being given playtime on the radio would be sweet.

  8. Slash rising out of the water to play an awesome guitar solo? Totally fucking super duper majoy uber awesome.

I have always loved the video and that was my favourite part. but after watching the making off I learned that it wasn't slash and that it was a stunt man :(

I still like the video but I now feel like crying when that part comes

And you had to tell me?

It doesn't matter. I refuse to believe you anyway. It's Slash.

Perhaps they made that up to scale down the totally fucking super duper major uber awesomeness because people just couldn't handle it.

  9. I think Izzy's songwriting was a massive factor in GnR's success.

But I think Slash's post-gnr work wipes the floor with Izz's.

Maybe Izz's songwiriting is a real bare bones style that needed Axl and Slash to elevate it.

    I agree with this.

Most of his solo albums sound exactly the same. Every track, every album bar a few stand outs.

Great writer, but needed the other guys just as much as they needed him. He was the backbone but Axl, Slash, Duff and Adler added the flair and sound of GnR.

The backbone is harder to write then anything else because before there's a backbone, there's nothing. Izzy writes from scratch, by himself. That takes more talent.

It's not so black and white.

Neil Diamond wrote and released 'Red, red wine', it really didn't do well in the charts. UB40 come along and take that song, add their own sound and it becomes an international hit.

It takes talent to see the potential in something and take it to that next level.

I don't doubt Izzy's talent and the work he puts in or his importance to Guns n Roses...but since Guns...it's clear Izzy was the foundation of that band.

But nobody wants to live in a 'foundation structure', people want to live in a house, with a roof, windows, nice furnishing and running facilities. Those being the rest of the band. Without the rest of the band...Izzy is just potential.

His solo albums prove this in my mind.

Music is subjective though so, just my thoughts.

  10. Also, as a side note: I do not live in the US. In the UK the word 'Chinky' is often used as a nickname for the takeaway food, rather than a person. Is that racist too? To nickname food based on country of origin?

If I called something "n**ger food" would that be racist? Yes.

    Completely different.

N**ger is and always has been a derogatory word and is not the shortening of anything. It was created to name 'lesser' beings and is/has been used in a very negative way. Chinky is the shortening or nicknaming of a food made/sold by the Chinese. And referring to an album or food entitled Chinese as chinky is not racist as no offence is meant and hasn't been tagged to a single person or race.

I'm seriously done explaining this now. You can't reason with those who are unwilling to accept logic, are just looking for trouble or in some cases are bias against ones musical persuasion.

  11. Is that racist too? To nickname food based on country of origin?

    Yes.

    LOL

And you couldn't possibly be shit stirring because im not a fan of Axl's bastardisation of Guns n Roses?

    After all you did say:

"Good. Another one will bite the dust. One by one the haters will be banned."

Your word/opinion means sweet, sweet sod all.

I'm done with thread, it's pathetic and off topic.

  12. Wooooooooo

They have a bad/cheesy rep but actually have some decent/credible tunes.

Hated Hot Leg - That was just a joke.

    Stone Gods were awesome though.

Would love this to happen. Not GnR scale..but a small win for the music world.

  13. chinky

A racist term, derived by the word "chink", to describe anyone of Eastern Asian descent (i.e. Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, etc.). Not a "cool" term since it has been used against us in a negative fashion for centuries in the United States.

And one must take context into consideration.

I used it as a shortening of a name. It was not tagged to a particular person or race and therefore was not intended as a racial remark or to cause offence to anybody.

As such, I believe/know my comment was not racist in the slightest.

Also, as a side note: I do not live in the US. In the UK the word 'Chinky' is often used as a nickname for the takeaway food, rather than a person. Is that racist too? To nickname food based on country of origin?

  14. By the sword (alone) > Chinky Demo (Anything on)

I hate the fact they are still using the name, but I still listen to ChiDem album on a semi regular basis, like at least a couple songs every month/2 months.

So this isnt some bias Slash V Axl vote on my behalf.

  15. Tyler > Mick Jagger

    Keith > Perry

But there is a much larger distance between Tyler and Jagger than there is between Keith and Perry imo, so I'll go with Aerosmith.

Cant stand Jagger. Stones could have been great without him.

  16. I like the video. It's awesome.

    Dolphins? Awesome.

Axl jumping off a big fuck off boat to swim with the dolpins? Awesome

Slash rising out of the water to play an awesome guitar solo? Totally fucking super duper majoy uber awesome.

It didn't cost me money, so I can enjoy it.

But if I was in the band and it really was Axl pushing for this that and the other, I'd be very pissed off. Apart from Slash. He has no right to be pissed off. It may have hurt his pocket but he came out of that video looking fucking epic.

  17. LOL why does the US buy shitty albums?

    No Chinese Democracy tunes ?

    Oh_he_mad.jpg?1276649653

Sad thing is, it was probably the Superbowl appearance that dragged the album back into the charts...

GH back in Billboard chart since LAX incident and the Asia tour.

Other reasons could be the Superbowl, MSL, DJ's NFL national anthem, Jack Black's Gulliver's movie, Facebook fans, previous tour, US tour, etc.

If I want to know an Artist/Singer/Band, I usually buy their Greatest Hits if available.

I can't see Ashba fans wanting to buy Guns Greatest hits.

The people who dont know Guns n Roses arent going to know Ashba.
