When will people understand that Guns n Roses was not and is not a one man band.
Guns n Roses was a collection of insanely talented individuals coming together to create something even greater than could be achieved individually.
They have all produced some great songs since...but nothing as solid and consistant as Guns n Roses music.
Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff, Adler = Guns n Roses.
Each one's sound and imput is as important as the next. Dont rule out Adler either. His drumming sets AFD apart from any generic drumming out there. It has its own personality rather than being something that could easily be a machine beat.
Axl alone = Axl
Slash alone = Slash
Izzy alone = Izzy
Duff alone = Duff
Adler alone = A hole heap of crazy shit.
Together = Guns n Roses.
Rant over.

^^
Yeah but...Look what Axl was wearing.
No1 can be hardcore wearing that.
But yeah, Axl wins.

really a great Song and the Solo rocks
I just start missing Slashs old "fat and bluesy" sound.....recently, his tone became more and more thin, just as his playing became better.
I think he wants to go back to the straight and stripped sleaze-rock sound of the appetite era, but i miss the muddy, warm and overall bluesy sound he had during the illusion tour and especially the snakepit days.
YES!
I do Love some of the tones and sounds on the VR and his solo album, but I would love it to be classic Slash sleazy Blues GnR tone with the odd wiry toned song thrown in.

Legally, Axl may be 100% in the right. This still makes him look like an asshole though. Slash is always going tom be associated with WTTJ, and Guitar Hero was smart enough to know that practically no one would be waiting in line to play as DJ Ashba. Telling them they can't offer VR tracks as downloads makes him look even worse, as if he's afraid of the competition.
Yeah, pretty much. It's the fact that he singles out the whole Slash-imagery thing that makes it seem like sour grapes more than a case of real legal concern. You can't really control pop culture - no matter how long it's been since he was in the band, that's always the band Slash is gonna be known for to most people, and it just seems silly to me to attack that.
Slash LEFT the band on his own, now he is trying to cash in on it? How is that ok? I fail to see how you think it is ok at all. In fact Slash is the first one in recent memory to NOT discuss Guns in interviews, so as long as he can use it to make money it's ok then? That is the problem, either distance yourself or embrace it by getting the rights to use the song, you can't have it both ways.
It is wrong, Slash knew it, and the makers of the game knew they did not have the rights issue figured out and decided to release it anyway. They honestly don't give a fuck is the message here.
Slash created those songs. That song would not exist without Slash.
I think that gives him right to be associated with it to say the least. Fuck not having 'legal ownership' of the GnR Brand.

Despising Justin Bieber is the biggest waste of time. Sure, you can hate his music all you want (i dont like it myself), but to sit there going "JUSTIN BIEBER IS A FUCKIN FAG!!!!!!" every chance you get is just a classic example of being 40 years old or being a rebellious teenager.
I hate the "im 14 years old and i listen to guns n roses and not justin bieber he is a fag - there is so much shit in my generation. i wish they made music like they used it" comments on youtube.
I hate this too. ITs like 'And? You want a fucking medal for liking something?'
I also hate the 'This song helped me get through 'generic sob story' '
No1 gives a shit...listen to the damn song.

2nd
You have the groove of Duffs Bass which the calm and tranquillity of Axls piano and that just builds into a ball blowing Slash 'rising from the depths' Solo.

Izzy is the most important element of a reunion.
Nah, hearing Izzy's solo stuff, and comments like Weiland's about VR's work with him. It seems like Izzy is good at stringing some nice chord progressions.
But it's all kinda bland until Slash, Axl, or someone bent the material over and forced themselves on it with more aggression, heavy riffing, speed, etc...
the pre-Guns version of Anything Goes for example is very weak, but give it some Adler groove and Slash talk-box action, and it got better.
Couldnt agree more.
I've said this on a couple friends. Izzy is good, but he needs the others to add flair and agression.
I'd wouldnt call it a reunion...but it would be Guns n Roses again.
-
I listened with an open mind.
Its absolute shite.
It's kwl they they like GnR enough to do the whole album...but It's just very very bad 'music'.
-
Dont really listen to the radio.
But I have heard Slash a few times on the rare occasions I've put the radio on in the car.
Kerrang Radio also used the Ghost riff for some voice over competition thing.
UK btw.

That interviewer is a fucking dick.
In hindsight...I think Axl listened to him.
Axl sounded cool in this interview...thats when he was a great guy, a guy in a band,
I think Howard Sturn got to Axl...conspiracy!

About 2004 I was about 11, mother found an old CD. She blasted the whole album in the car (minus Rocket Queen for some reason ). Was huge on it though I hated music.
'Rediscovered' AFD in school year 10 (Age 14) and have been listening to something GnR at least once a day since. I've probably had about 5 days where I havent listened to a GnR tune since then.
I owe getting back into Rock to Johnny Depp, I watched Pirates of the Carribean and chose to base some drama class essay on him. I discovered he was into Rock and played occasionally...So i picked up AFD and just got hooked all over again.

What exactly would that change?
This.
Though I do regret the crap yellow/red combo.
-
Null vote.
The Doors are dadrock.
Nirvana are Nirvana.
I thought that.
Thought they were boring as fuck untill a mate practically forced their greatest hits on me.
Now I think they're fkin brilliant.
-
They love him musically...
Don't they hate CD
Some do some dont Im sure.
Who gives a fuck. lol

I think Duff has aged the best.
He never knew what he was with Guns n Roses. He dressed like a complete twat most of the time. Looked completely out of place.
Axl had his bandana and statement tshirt thing.
Slash had the leather, cowboy boots and obv the hat.
Izzy the shirt and waistcoat.
Adler...
and Duff just wore an array of different styles that looked shit.
Now he's toned as, wears cool stuff. Has great tattoos and had awesome hair till he lobbed it off.
He may not look the youngest...but he's found himself and the right look so I'd say he's doing best.
Izzy, as someone said, looks like people dads or uncles.
Slash has aged very well. He looked out of shape and scruffy with the beard for a while but then he got tonk.
Axl looks botoxed but seems to have built muscle with the middleaged spread, so he's fine.
Adler has aged well to once you get passed the slanty stroke face.
-
I think Axl delivers in this song. It would be even better if recorded with Slash. To me "Sorry" is the worst. I love the beginning of This I Love.
Completely agree with this.
The whole Album is let down by the music, Axl delivers but the music is fucked.
This song is the biggest example of that.

Axl Vs Grohl
in 2010
I don't think Foo are as good as either Nirvana or Guns. They're still pretty good band though.
I agree with this.
They have the occasional good song, last I heard I think was The Pretender.
But yeah, they sound very American pop rock which is the shit that killed Grunge that killed Hard Rock and spams the airwaves today.
-
I'd prefer that to what's called Guns n Roses now.
I wouldnt mind Sorum replacing Adler full time.
I love Adler's sound, but he would probs cause too much fuss in the camp. Maybe have him as Special guest aka Dizzy.
-
I dont think any of the Slashites actually hate Axl.
They love him musically...they just hate what hes done to the Guns n Roses name.
Either way. This is a stupid fkin thread.
-
I cant choose.
The whole album is fucking Killer.
Will never understand why people dont like it.
I hate punk and this is taking the best punk songs and converting them to pure hard rock.
How can that be bad?
-
I think Izzy's songwriting was a massive factor in GnR's success.
But I think Slash's post-gnr work wipes the floor with Izz's.
Maybe Izz's songwiriting is a real bare bones style that needed Axl and Slash to elevate it.
I agree with this.
Most of his solo albums sound exactly the same. Every track, every album bar a few stand outs.
Great writer, but needed the other guys just as much as they needed him. He was the backbone but Axl, Slash, Duff and Adler added the flair and sound of GnR.

Best - Estranged
Worst - Knockin On Heavens Door (with the reggae jam)
I know everyone is entitled to their opinion
But YOU SIR ARE WRONG!
Knocking on heavens door with the reggae jam is AWWWEEESOME
You opinion is wrong this time I tell ya WRONG
I know!
You dont get a little Giddy when you hear Axl screach 'Gimme some Reggae'
I like if the world. I dont see people problems. Shit solo...but again, its more Axl than anything else which makes it one of the best CD songs imo.
Edit: Just listened to If the world again...Yeah...I was thinking of something else. It's shit.

Fergie.

I agree and disagree.
Snakepit sounds like Guns n Roses through Slash's playing, personality and style. Slash is Guns n Roses so it sounds guns n roses. But it lacked the 4 other key elements to Guns (in most songs, Duff did a couple songs here and there)
CD, sounds like Guns as far as lyrics and vocals go.
Loaded, VR and Izzys effort have a lot of Guns n them...but more sparadically.
It all has that Guns sound a feel...but a watered down one due them on being a small percentage Guns.
It sounds like a Slash solo album. I simply can't imagine them being released by the actual GNR band. When I listen to I5oCS I don't think "Guns N' Roses", I think "Slash". The only exception is Beggars' first verse, which kinda reminds me of some UYI songs. Like classicrawker said, the songs themselves don't sound like GNR, but the riffs had potential. With the whole band writing on them from the start, it might have produced a few good Guns songs.
I get what your saying.
But I identify Slash's guitar and sound Guns n Roses, in the exact same way as you (and I) hear Axl's voice and think Guns n Roses.
I defo agree that it dosent have the re-play factor that GnR albums have. But as far as im concerned...Its some of Slashs best material...just weak in the parts Izzy, Axl and Duff would have filled.
I love Adlers Cowbell on it too but Matt does a fine job of Drums himself.
Axl vs. Kurt Cobain
in 2010

Boy did you join the wrong forum lol
I don't see how anyone can Vote for Kurt. Axl... is just...brilliant...and I 'hate' the guy (he's become).
