  1. I'll just change the thread, I'll compare two celebrities that I think look alike. Oh well, maybe it fits here anyway. I am just talking about the artists' quarrels.

Wait...did he win the case just because he had a demo? Did they prove that Billy heard it before releasing Drown, or did he win just because he had a demo pre-dating Drown? Because that would be pretty fucked.

I can't find a link other than an unverified citation from Wikipedia.

Ed Roland originally was shopping his demos to record companies before he made Collective soul. I think that's how they were verifiable.

  2. The reason I ask is because Billy Corgan allegedly sued Collective Soul for copying him.

And Collective Soul actually won because Ed Roland actually had a demo that pre-dated Billy Corgan's song.

And Collective Soul went on to make Smashing Young Man about him.

I think I read some online post from Billy Corgan where he still accuses them of stealing his song.

    Oh crap. Wrong section.

  3. What I'm saying is directed at everybody, both sides of this thing, and then to everybody in general in other situations on the forum, too.

Yeah, well I figure people have to learn somehow. Well, they aren't going to learn anyway. Some of the people here might be legit mentally ill and throwing their lives away on a forum. Exercise their demons, I say. Else, they might be shut ins with no outside stimulation. Without criticism, they won't improve.

  4. I don't believe everybody, either, nor do I care to come in here and assess people by how much financial capital they claim to have. Even if somebody comes in here and acts absolutely silly, there is no reason to vindictively try and destroy somebody's self-worth or publicly humiliate them. These are real people behind the computer screens guys. Our brothers and sisters.

    What's gotten into you?

  5. It's something new. I can't listen to any of the other songs on the album honestly. I like the guitar solo at the end but I can understand why others would see it as gratuitous shredding. Back in the late 80s lots of bands has a mini-Van Halen coveting a super-strat that made annoying solos and most people are happy those days are gone. I didn't mind it in the song cause it's better than anything else on the album. It takes too long to get to the solo though.

  6. Mike Inez played in Slash's original Snakepit so I think Slash respected Alice in Chains early on. I really don't see that their music was from different worlds. In my opinion they definitely would have gelled a lot more. I'm not saying he would have made another Mad Season, I'm saying they could have made a new band bringing their talents to the table.

  7. In Soviet Russia, DJ no write hit for GN'R. Writers hit GN'R for DJ.

In Soviet Russia, fans no ask DJ for the freebird at GNR show. Fans show the bird to GN'R's DJ for free.

Don't be offended, they're just jokes.

  8. I'll agree they could have both died with one album. For what it's worth, I think Slash was similarly on drugs anyway around this time. In particular I think he referenced his depressive state in his book around the time he got divorced and it was a bottom for him when Axl was still hounding his relatives to get back together and Slash knew he couldn't return. Layne was allegedly suicidal after his girlfriend died in 1996 and I think he never recovered. I remember reading accounts of him in his last days where he would show up to a coffee house and just sit in the corner for hours. I think his death has more to do with the head space than the drugs themselves. Something special could have happened if they had music to provide them the will.

  9. Scott went to jail. Layne didn't. Scott could have died but he ended up having a family and he had other outside forces at least keeping him alive and there to rebound. Even Mad Season almost got back together but their bassist died in 1999 of an overdose. This would be a what if scenario in a perfect world. I think a successful band with Slash would have been a motivator in life. Maybe he'd even be alive today.

A lot of people are fascinated with Axl Rose but I'm not anymore really. He had a vocal gimmick that was nice when it was novel but eventually it got be a "played" around the early 90s. If there was any voice that caught people's attention, it was the vibrato snarl of Layne Staley. I know that Layne had problems with drugs and Alice in Chains stopped for a while in the mid 90s. In a very similar fashion with Scott Weiland, Slash and Duff could have and should have formed a new band with Layne. Jerry Cantrell was driving songwriter for Alice in Chains and since they weren't productive after 96', I don't think it would be a realistic loss even in this hypothetical scenario.

Axl's stylistic differences with Slash didn't allow them to progress as band anyway. Layne's darker music seems to be at the same level as Slash and I think they would have gelled and made a lot more albums in the late 90s. That is just a "what if" scenario but unfortunately that never happened. I think they should have put the Guns N' Roses name to rest and everyone would be doing their own thing, happily, to this day.

I don't know what section to put this in so I'll put it here in this section I guess.

  11. This forum is dedicated to GN'R, not Axl. That's pretty egocentric to say this is for Axl. I used to curious about him but I am not anymore. I used to really like Axl Rose. I don't respect people I feel immoral and in recent years I've concluded he's done the most harm to others. The fact that people would defend him simply because they were in love with man sort of gave me a reality check.

I was put on the spot around on the office a while where everyone had tell a little about themselves in a question set, including stating what they're favorite artist was. I ended up not replying to the email altogether because I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of my co-workers. Not that they would look down upon me that much but Nirvana & GNR seems antiquated considering I am an adult now so I didn't risk it and didn't want to lie.

These days I've come to realize that my teenage angst is gone, and the rebellious passion that was in GN'R music doesn't really apply to me anymore. The fangirlism puts it to a head though because it makes me self-analyze why I am liking this band, and acknowledge none of the people I know are.
