Also, has anybody noticed that slash's soloing on studio tracks these days seems a bit...out of time, I mean he seems to hit the notes just ever so slightly behind or before the beat, and not in a good way, like its out of time and jarring kind of way, like hes struggling to hit the note, but he does it all the time so its being done on purpose. Its annoying - he used to hit the money notes all the time, bang on the point where you wanted them when he was in gnr and snakepit, now we get this sloppy crap from him (i know he said something about it being sloppy on purpose) but it sounds wrong. Listen to that solo and you'll see what i mean.

He is also not doing anything impressive musically or technically here.

We know he can still play good solos, we have heard them in concert (look at how he improvises over rocket queen for example)

Where is that LIVE AWESOMENESS gone?? He has the talent, we have been seeing it

That solo was bland and didnt go anywhere - it never got to that 'fuck yeah' moment that he used to do so well. It kind of drips in, stays for a boring ride them fucks off without asking.

Im sure it might grow on me, but its not amazing by any standards.

The last part seems to have something going for it, where he repeats 'i dont need you to save me any more' - if THAT part was developed then perhaps it would be better. I can imagine in the past he would have jammed this out further and that repeated guitar lick would have turned into a blistering solo over the vocals (like what he used to do in gnr) and myles could get screamier and angrier until fade out...

I suppose you need a singer like Axl to inspire that kind of thing though...urgh...

Something with Axl. I love Slash , but Myles' voice just does nothing for me at all. Axl has stated he had to push Slash to do Estranged,November Rain,Patience, and all the piano based songs. I believe Axl can tap into Slash's potential more than any other artist. With that being said, I know itis not going to happen. Just answering the question,which I think is a cool thread. Hopefully there are some interesting answers, becuase mine is obvious and far fetched.

I don't think Slash needs Axl necessarily, but collaborating again with Izzy might do the trick. I liked Slash's last record a lot, but I agree sometimes his stuff borders on kinda generic sounding R&R. I felt the same with Velvet Revolver when they were around and only recently started delving a little into their library beyond the singles ("Messages" is amazing).

Anyway, with Mr. Stradlin, I think you get their dueling guitars going. Listen to how cool "Ghost" sounds. Now that I think about it, I wonder why they never did a low-budget digital-only release like Izzy routinely does. I think it would be really cool to see Duff, Izzy and Slash all collaborate on something together, the three of them. Don't know who would do vocals.

Ok, heres a MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR problem with reuniting the original GNR:

AXL OWNS THE NAME

which means that if they reunited Axl would have to HIRE them and they would be able to be fired by axl at any time. Essentially not full members and I don't think any of them would want to be at Axls mercy. It would be beneath them and not right. I think slash has said about this before, about them all needing to be equal members

Now, Axl is unlikely to ever give up the rights he has, since he is such a control freak, and also, since he is in the position of owning them, he would be unlikely to want to give it up for any other reason.

So there is a problem there.

This is slightly beside my main point, but i think it is a MAJOR reason, much bigger than any personal issues they all have.

Slash doesnt want to be Axls bitch, which is what he will be if he rejoins as a hired hand. The guys in axls current band dont mind being bitches because they are nobodys and are unlikely to do big tours on their own. (they also like the money)

Would any of you that like the current band be enthusiastic about the original band reuniting and keeping the current touring band going as well (essentially axl would have two bands) and the current 'gnr' would then be called 'the axl rose band' and they can carry on, but we can also have the real gnr as well?

The original band gets back together and the current band stays together, axl has two bands BUT

the current gnr stays with the name GUNS N ROSES

and the reunited guns n roses are called something else (I offer 'VELVET RE-LOADED' lol)

This scenario would allow them all to be equal partners again and axl would keep the gnr name.

My god. I liked the ballad of death, but this is just boring. Its the same couple of ideas repeated and repeated and repeated, like its on a freaking loop - like a keybord demo. It bored the crap out of me, I was waiting for it to develop a bit but it didnt! He didnt take it anywhere just kept repeating. No drive to it, no kick, no solo, just boring melodic ideas which aint even that great to start with.

Just found an article basically saying VR aint gonna do anything until Slash has done his album with miles.

Not supprising really, he's got a great singer there and a really great band who he is having fun with and playing really well and most importantly he is free to play HOW HE WANTS.

In VR, if they got the wrong singer then lots of possibly great material would be wasted on a below par singer - they don't need that shit again!

If the miles and slash album is good and sells well, I'll bet Slash won't be too worried about Velvet revilver at all.

I think that the ship has sailed basically. They are keeping VR going because they are all still friends and there was no 'break up' between them (except for losing their singer) so they are more like a bunch of pals that just get together these days - but i bet the business side and the expectations of the music - album - tour and finding a singer are just a headache to those guys...

slash has his great band - mckagen has loaded. They are happy playing with guys they know are good and they have fun with.

VR is a hasstle and an unknown quantity....

People here are are claiming Axl took advantage of his exbandmates as they all tell the same story of Axl's grab for control while Axl is the only one pushing his version of the truth....You chose to believe Axl which is your right but myself and many others in this thread chose to believe the version of the many, ex bandmates, others associated with the band, over the one, Axl..............We will just have to agree to disagree on this one...

That certainly is an interesting point about Axl exploiting the situation, but I think it ignores much of the context at the time. Axl has openly stated that some in management were whispering sweet nothings into Slash's ear about getting Axl out of the band, among other things. I think this is verifiable from other sources too. There was a power struggle of sorts among all the various main players, plus things were chaotic on top of all that. Axl made a move to secure his position in the band, and yes take on a more prominent role in guiding the band. Things deteriorated after that, but they were already deteriorating prior to that, and that's a pertinent point.

Ultimately, I don't think Axl hates Slash for the reasons you put forth in the opening post, bottom line. Is he spiting Slash? Sure. But not for the reasons you gave.

Here's what you can't argue.

1. Axl ruined original guns by making it a dictatorship, demanding the rights to the name, hiring and firing w- out consulting band members, late starts, no shows, cancelled tours, running up tour tabs with extravigant parties ( that nobody attende but him and his sukboys), calling out band members drug use in the middle of shows, never taking responsibility for his actions, never writing as a BAND during illusions, not showing up to writing sessions for weeks, and thinking that he IS gnr and didn't need them.

2. Axl still thinks about slash. He is in a lawsuit to remove his image from a video game right now rather than putting out his next "masterpeice". He freaks out in concerts if a fan says his name. He Put a whole song about him on his last album. He lives in the past.

Most songs on Chinese democracy were just him whineing all over the mic.

3. He calls him a sellout and a media whore.

4. He never does interviews, fought for the name only to put out one record in fifteen years.

5. He places gag orders on his muscians.

6. He can't keep band members, managers, producers, women, and most importantly FANS.

7. He is an all around douche bag as a human being which is why I see why you like him.

8. Slash puts out records, talks to fans, has sponsorships, appears with other artist of all kinds, doesn't just play pentatonic scales, has alot of the same crew and friends he always has( which to me says alot in this case and speaks directly to his character).

1. Axl took control of the band because his junkie bandmembers and their associates in the record company were fucking everything up. Is Axl eccentric? Sure. But it's been so exaggerated by you and others that the truth has been obscured about what really went down in the early 90's. And ok, if you want to make a valid criticism that he was aloof from the band, so be it. Gee, could there be any possible reason he was apart? Maybe he didn't want any part of the scene that had developed. So he took a prominent role in the band's decisions and separated himself. Why the fuck did Slash sign the fucking name over? Oh you wanna get deep about this, we can get deep about this. WHY DID SLASH AND DUFF GIVE CONTROL TO AXL? That is the question you should be asking yourself. What your problem is is you're all caught up in the band name. Look at Van Halen: in that case, the brothers Van Halen retained the name. But DLR made some good Van Halen-esque songs on his solo records without Eddie, even though it wasn't called "Van Halen." Countless examples abound: band lineups change, things change. Look at Metallica. You've got the original 3 members and their latest album was a sincere attempt at returning to form, to quote Kirk Hammett. Well guess what? I'd rather have Chinese Democracy and Contraband over Death Magnetic any day of the week. You see- Axl and Slash's feud is propelling them to each create good music each in their own right.

2. He's over Slash. It's other people who constantly remind him of Slash, and every now and then, he'll fire off a nice quote about Mister TopHat. To Axl, Slash is just another ex-band member. That's what you don't get. It's not that hard to believe or accept. No different than Steven Adler. No different than Chris Weber.

3. Slash is a sell-out and a media whore. What's your point?

Also, you may want to brush up on your rock n roll history. All your grandiose exaggerations fall flat after a simple examination of many of the big rock bands of the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Kiss, Hanoi Rocks, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, David Lee Roth. There are examples aplenty illustrating that lineup changes are a common thing in rock n roll.

That's an awful lot of psychic knowledge you've amassed there. And cleverly veiled opinions disguised as facts. Next time don't be so transparent in your stealth trolling. Unfortunately, the evidence points to a different reality than the one you've conjured up in your mind.

He loved him as a brother in the early days of gnr, and they had a massive shnit up and Slash left.

Axls ego will not relent and admit any fault - he will not admit to doing ANYTHING wrong in the past (im not saying slash is without blame, but he seems to be more willing to work through problems).

Axl has got to hate slash or he has got to admit faults. To admit faults would mean that the band COULD have continued, he COULD still have major success (apart from just sales based on name recognition) he COULD have a real band if slash was still there.

In his heart axl knows what he is doing is kind of bogus - he just cant admit it and now its gone on soooo long that to back down now would make him look ridiculous (or so he thinks) because his ego is so big he doesnt want to lose face.

Slash left, therefore - in Axls bi-polar mind he just becomes 'the enemy' in a kind of 'you are either with us or against us' kind of way. The only way axl feels he can keep respect is to be more successful than slash - create better music, sell more records and be more respected. He wants another classic album that sells like appetite to stuff slash's face in it - to go 'there, i did it without you - i didnt need you in the first place'.

He is unuable to create as good music as he did with slash - he is unuable to have the hits and sell the records he did with slash and he must hate him for that also.
