Does anybody else bleed this song? I used to own a cassette tape with estranged on side 1 and side 2. An hour of estranged. I listen to that tape for months straight and nothing else. I have never gotten over this song. Maybe i havent grown as a human being, but this song still applies to my life in so many ways and I never tire of listening to it. Where i have heard every other GNR song to the point of redundency , this song remains fresh and vital to my soul. Now, if you dont feel the same way, then I dont care. iam just curious to others people stories in regards to this song. Maybe U2's One makes me feel something simliar. If not estranged then what songs makes you feel like nothing else.If you have nothing to add then remain silent. Of course nothing can stop a cunt from being a dude.

I used to have that tape too... To be honest, I remember being so ..amazed and intrigued by whichever side I discovered first that I wasnst even aware the song was on both sides for several weeks! Man was I excited when I found the other half !!!

Listening to it in my bedroom as a kid is a vivid memory. Watching the music video brings back vivid memories. I love pulling it up on youtube. Probably the most important GNR song to me.

However, I have gotten over this song. I am no longer "estranged." I still love the song, and the memory of what it used to mean to me is still there. Axl was my hero then. I was immature and didnt know any better. I still have respect for the man for many things, but I surely dont idolize him anymore.

Why am I no longer "estranged" you may wonder? Well, through Jesus Chris I have a relationship with my Creator God. This completes me, fulfills me and brigs me joy - not happiness, because happiness is fleeting and comes and goes like the weather...

We were all created as 3 part beings - body, spirit and soul. We know how to feed the body, and the soul we learn how to appease somewhat, but as many of you know, you still feel an emptiness. Until your spirit is linked with God, you will always have than emptiness. You will try to fill it with anything other than God, because our human nature is that we are rebellious toward God. So we try to fill that void with other things - music, relationships, food, alcohol, drugs, sex, education, power, money, possessions...... and we discover that nothing fills the void, so we do even more of whatever thing we have been trying to fill it with, and more and more and more, and then we start adding more things on top.... I think Axl himself said it best in MRB - "I used to do a little but a little wouldnt do it so the little got more and more, I just kept trying to get a little better said a little better than before..."

I wont continue this discussion on this thread, but if anyone would like discuss in another, I am more than happy.

I belive alot of people have forgotten why they love GNR. I just want to remond people why they fell in love to begin with , and of course most poeple have fallen in love with other bands since, but there is nothing like your first love. There is no CD 2. There isnt even much of a demand beyond the diehards.

Well we all know that Axl had nothing to do with the demise of real GNR at all. Such an innocent victim. I guess karma hit him pretty hard as evidenced by those musicians he's been dragging around for 10 years. Fifteen years on and still can't succeed without Slash, even with using the GNR name.

I don't have any problem with people who don't consider NuGnR to be GnR at all for the record.

I'd personally rather have the band called something else : less whining from the fanbase, less abuse towards the musicians, less legal bullshit, more Chinese less Appetite, perfect...

But at least have some coherence : if Dizzy isn't a real member, neither is Matt or Gilby. If it's okay to have Izzy replaced, I don't see why it isn't to have Slash replaced : they both contributed to the original band in their own special way.

Or at least have the honnesty to admit that GnR = Slaxl for you, which is the case for quite a big part of the fanbase...

EDIT : @ AngelZ : yes, I reckon that if NuGnR had released music on a regular fanbase since 1997, there would be less hostility towards the band and it would have been more accepted now.

According to the current lawsuit against activision, Axl is the only member of GNR , and that fact is backed up by everyone leaving the band over the course of all the years. I dont care about the name. Alot of other succesful bands have used band names to promote records and sell-out concerts. GNR=Slaxl for me? Never said that. Never implied it either. And I suppose a large part of the fan base is Axl/Slash, but that is no different than any other worldwide group(u2-bono/the edge, The Stones mick/keith, Zeppelin page/plant, Beatles lennon/mccartney). Matt is correct. watch the video and you will see Axl look directly into Duff's eyes and sing " I'll rip your heart in two". I noticed it the first time and thought it was odd. Plus, GNR has toured the world , minus the U.S. . The U.S. is the only place left and nothing has been announced. As far as the arena arguement goes, GNR should not play to arenas in the U.S. unless it is a major market. It is not even debatable if your have seen the last two tours in the U.S., where only a couple , and yes only a couple of shows sold-out.

You talked to Del to confirm that he meant the entire tour, over forever? I somehow doubt that, the band is on a roll. They don't have to sell out everywhere to tour somewhere, I have a feeling this is not the end of the tour but a break in action for a little while. That is what my gut is saying, no need to argue about it just a hunch...

As GNR's tour manager that would imply that the band will not be stateside touring.

Asia, Europe,Australia, South America, and Canada. I think all of this qualifys as a world tour and i dont think U.S. touring is going to happen. If there was going to be a tour in Feburary, tickets would be onsale by now. I dont think a us tour is happening. Anybody holding out hope for such a tour.

A couple of years ago Rollingstone magazine listed the greatest singers and greatest guitarist of all time. Axl was like 67 for singers , but Slash did even make it on the 100 guitairist of all-time.

I would put Axl top ten frontman for any genre of music , but as far as guitarist go I do not know where I would rank Slash.

I know that GNR co-headlined a stadium tour in the U.S. with Metallica, but did they ever play to stadiums on thier own?

Gunsguy is ridiculous, no doubt, but the shows dont start late. If Axl showed up on time 7 out of 10 times, then you could say he was late. Axl will not take the stage before 11. I understand why some people get pissed, but I do not get why anyody who comes here would bitch. This an Axl forum like it or not, so why come here and talk about late starts. We all know there are hours upon hours of tapes, jams riffs and ideas.

That stuff, the starting points for songs, they are fun and easy to do. You put a skilled bunch of musicians in a box for a weekend and tell them to come up with ideas, you will end up with hours and hours of tape and most probably a lot of fun ideas and jams and what not, but that stuff is not "finished material" by a longshot.

I agree with this dude. Those are not completed songs. half of that narrative decribes NO VOCALS and when it does they are reffered to as vocal parts and one song, Madagascar. Bono has made similar comments regarding U2 material before and the rest of the band disagreed. Nothing came of Bono assertions.
