Musically I dont think Oasis were influenced much by GN'R. Their sound is more british, esp. The Beatles. The rock n' roll lifestyle/ rebel thing was probably more influential on them.

If the solo were more..... "plain", the song would be too boring. For me, works very well. It made a rupture in the structure and then, chorus again with an excellent solo in the background.
