  1. Axl probably retire when he reached 64

Aerosmith and AC/DC are the most overrated bands of all time.

AC/DC sounds the same and is a gimmick rock band

Aerosmith is a pop rock band putting out cheesy summertime songs.

How they ever got popular is beyond me.

Maybe because the majority of classic rock fans got better musical taste than you?

AC/DC is the same, but they do fuckin good what they do since the beginning

Although i admit Aerosmith doesn't deliver really good songs since 1993

99% of people outside of this board would say the same about Guns N' Roses. Just replace 1993 with 1991.

  2. Maybe Axl is just being respectful with the material and you critics are just unable to cope with something that isn't spoonfed to you with 20 guitars and screams and pyros?

If the song means something to him and this is how he feels it then let him fucking sing it the way he does it. Unlike on most of his classic material today he is actually singing here, and it is powerful because it is fragile and vulnerable. Singing and actual expression is so much more than just sceaming the fuck out of a song. His rendition is fucking beautiful.

I'm a huge fan of Neil Young and I believe no one can ever really write or sing a Neil Young song but Neil Young. Funny how the songwriter himself was not to cool to sing it with Axl though, but the minute Axl tries something with just a tiny portion of authencity and heartland his fans give him shit for not being rock and roll enough.

But the truth is Axl is 50 and it's about fucking time he starts playing material like that. Where do you think he's going to be at 60? Singing YCBM "with your ass in the air"? Most likely because he's catering to an audience of idiots. But I for one rather see an honest and authentic falsetto that has something to say than a forced attempt at rasp, trying to sound like what only his critics will forever call his prime just to make those idiots happy. Let the man evolve for once, let the wine gain some bottom and wisdom and fucking enjoy it.

With the shitstorm he gets it's no wonder he sticks to playing it safe with a show production rather than playing actual concerts. I understand a little Neil Young is not for everyone, but all that overly harsh criticism is no better than Slash or Duff giving him shit for Estranged and November Rain back in the day.

With the sad excuse of a setlist we have seen for a good while now, instead of doing yet another AC/DC cover to please the drunken morons, Axl at 50 covering a song that for once actually means something to him at this point in time is about the coolest thing happening to Guns in a long while.

I agree. But this is painful to listen to.

And there is nothing stopping Axl from evolving. It is his decision to put on the same show with the same setlist for years. You're saying he should start playing material like he's 50. I don't know what that means but it would obviously be best for Axl as an artist to just drop the band and start some sort of a solo career (assuming he has some creativity and passion left in him). He should have done that ages ago. Because when you think about it, what is next for this band? Taking a few months off and then tour Europe and South America next summer? This is going nowhere and every single person on this board knows that. Except the ones that interpret every sarcastic comment from Bumblefoot as a goodbye to this world.

  3. Wrecking Ball is so mainstream...How can you compare bruce with GNR ?

Its true that axl doesn't seem angry on omg, irs, sorry or scraped....

edit : but yeah WB its a good album compared to working on a dream.

Not angry on OMG? It's probably the best Axl ever sounded in studio.

Also, the amount of facepalm is high in this thread.

Not angry on OMG? It's probably the best Axl ever sounded in studio.

Why is the fact that he was angry on OMG any proof that he 'still has it'? It was almost 15 years ago. The CD songs are more than a decade old too. Then there were visible signs of creativity. I don't see them anymore.

  4. I'm not talking about three new singles topping the charts.

Can you realistically see a Guns n Roses album released by the current band sell a few million copies?

Seriously, even if he has a stack of songs ready, there just is not a demand for it anymore outside the group of hardcore fans.

The atmosphere is so different from what it was before Chinese Democracy was relased.

People may talk about no promotion and stuff like that, but the reality is that the whole world was waiting for that album.

I think they will just keep the current tour going forever or until Axl decides it's time to retire.

  5. I lived on both sides of the river, West Lafayette and Lafayette. I assume Axl grew up in Lafayette.

Yes this quote probably sums it up.

  6. I'm basically saying that only a handful of artists are able to consistently deliver (new material) decade after decade. Axl Rose is probably not one of them. Springsteen found inspiration in the financial meltdown and the whole mess that the american economy is. Is Axl really inspired by anything nowadays? Nobody knows but somehow I don't have the feeling that he is buzzing with ideas.

  7. Anybody here been to Lafayette? I lived there for five years and I'm constantly baffled about how something like Axl Rose could emerge from the emptiness there.

He was still pretty young when he left for Los Angeles, but do you think any of his inspirations came from Lafayette? Has he ever talked about it?

Or did he leave the place with nothing but family tragedies and bad memories and on his back?

When living there I just could not imagine a person like him walking the streets of Lafayette. He truly is one in a million.

  8. I wasn't gonna bash CD, personally I think it's a very good album.

And I'm not a huge Springsteen fan, but I'm very impressed after listening to this album he's releasing at the age of 62. It just got me thinking. That's all.

  9. How many bands/musicians that were big or relevant 20-30 years ago are still releasing records that will be ranked among their greatest works?

I honestly can't think of many. Even though I really want to hear new GnR material, I think the simple reason Axl doesn't release an album is that it's highly unlikely that it will be successful.

Although people on here consider Chinese Democracy a masterpiece, the truth is that it's not that spectacular. There is nothing remarkable about it. If you read this forum for a while you might think that every song on that album was a gift from god. And I have no idea why some believe seem to think that Axl has dozens of hits hidden somewhere just waiting to be published.

Anyway, I just thought of this after listening to Wrecking Ball by Bruce Springsteen. It's so damn good that you can hardly believe the guy is 62 and been around for decades. He's angry as hell and still creative and challenging himself after all these years.

  10. It's fine to be positive and all, but this 'youtube and cell phone recordings don't mean shit' comments... what the hell?

These are the dumbest comments I've seen since the internet came along.

  11. Does physical form not affect the voice at all?

At Rock in Rio it was clear that Axl had not taken care of him at all or rehearsed with the band since the end of the 2010 tour.

Heck, didn't one of the band members say he hadn't even seen the man for almost a year?

I'm pretty sure Axl has lost some 10 pounds since Rock in Rio and at least he sounds marginally better.

  12. It's understandable that they play the hits. Basically what 99% of concert goers want to hear.

If the band wants to take a step in a new direction they need a new song, a huge hit. That is the only way. Not some Chinese Democracy leftovers to please 50 people on this board.

The more I think about it I also realize that it's simply not in the cards. I think the band is further away from publishing new material than anyone here can imagine.

  13. I don't understand why anyone is even dreaming about a new album.

The 2011 tour is just a sequel of what was going on in 2009-2010, plus minus two songs.

Absolutely nothing new going on, no signs of creativity and judging by the tms interview, Chinese Democracy is still newly released in Axl's world.
