  1. I think we’ll see an album and tour within the next year or two..

I know that’s an unpopular opinion, but Axls finally releasing new music. Slash and Duff want to write and record, and Axls said in the past that he wasn’t writing songs to keep them buried. They're not getting any younger, either. It just feels different this time around. There’s an optimism surrounding this band that there wasn’t been in about 13 years

Or they could have just released them on streaming platforms..? Why would they leak their own songs, in lesser quality, get zero money and zero credit, when they could just put it on spotify and be labelled heroes by everyone and make money? Theory disproved.

Because it’s Guns N’ Roses. Nothing makes sense. They don’t make much off spotify

  3. After dozens of listens (because I’m a deprived weirdo like everyone else here) I personally prefer the general. Monsters is much more suited for radio airplay though. I could see that song actually being successful if they released it as a single on its own.

My expectations for the general were never high. I never understood why that was what this forum considered the holy grail. I always was more interested in soul monster, Oklahoma, and Zodiac. But, I was wrong. I might be biased because it’s new but the general might be one of my favorite GnR songs

  4. Better. I’ve heard it twice over the past 5 years. Once was because everyone on this forum voted for it to get played on the biggest rock station in my state, and once a year or two after that it got played during a block of Guns n Roses songs. Outside of that, I heard Perhaps once on a small rock station that probably 5 people listen to.

Edit: I actually forgot about shadow of your love. That actually got quite a bit of airplay around here for a week or two after it was released before fading into oblivion

  5. So, I don’t have the patience to look through all 84 pages here, but what I’ve gathered….

The general might be released Friday, or next Friday, or the Friday after that, or maybe even never…

It might be vinyl only, or you might be able to stream it, or you might have to climb to a mountain top and locate the spirit of Yoda to hear it.

It’s an instrumental with no lyrics and screaming heavy vocals

    so essentially we know nothing.

I doubt that lockdown has anything to do with it. Axl and GnR have enough connections that they would’ve been able to get Frank into a studio if it was that important.

I worked every day through Covid. I saw people, carefully obviously, but outside of certain things being closed I went about my life. Granted, I’m in a state where things were more relaxed, but I have connections and no one was getting tickets or fines or anything for violating Covid protocols. Frank could’ve recorded his parts. If it was important Axl would’ve found a way.

I saw a theory on another site that makes sense:

These tracks were worked on in lockdown. Slash and Duff have home studios, but maybe there wasn't a way for Frank to redo the drums at home.

That, and since the drums are the backbone of a song, Slash and Duff (and Richard and Melissa) just worked with what was already in the bank (for example, Brain's drum tracks from the early 2000s) to just get the job done – we know they've been sat on these for a while.

Just a theory, but it makes sense since Brain often still tours with the band anyway, so 1. If he was in the band, he'd be playing, and 2. We'd know Frank wasn't a member and he wouldn't be treated like one, which he is.

Also, remember there's a bunch of songs on Chinese Democracy that do feature Frank.

I doubt that lockdown has anything to do with it. Axl and GnR have enough connections that they would’ve been able to get Frank into a studio if it was that important.

  8. Me and my Elvis/soul monster.

it’s always been the song that’s interested me the most. Axl said he wrote the lyrics on Christmas eve and they were the heaviest lyrics he’s written. It’s the one instrumental leak that I listen to regularly.

I’d also like to hear Oklahoma. As far as songs that we’ve heard semi completed, I’d really like to hear a finished version of state of grace, but I’d take a completed version of one of the tracks without vocals over something that I have a decent version of

Let's reasses in a couple of weeks....once Uncle Ax has caught up with GNR world happenings...Ohhh I have a new F'N song to sing...ok....let me just work it out live in front of 30,000

Guns N’ Roses is the only band where the singer can get away with basically announcing before a new song “hey, I don’t know what I’m doing here, I haven’t sang this song in 24 years, let’s hope for the best.” And people will still buy tickets. He basically admitted he doesn’t rehearse…

And yet, I’ll still pay a ridiculous amount for a ticket the next time they come around.

  10. The song is growing in me. I think a lot of the issue is, out of all the leaks, Perhaps is one of the songs that felt the most complete to me, so hearing a version that is different from the one that I’ve heard for 2+ years is strange. I’m definitely interested to see where things go next, outside of Atlas and State of Grace, anything we hear beyond that will likely be new, or atleast have vocals we haven’t heard. I’m curious if they put out an album once they get all the completed leaked songs out. I could see them putting atlas and state of grace out to make room on an album for things we haven’t heard like Zodiac, Oklahoma, soul monster, etc.

we don't know that Axl didn't want to release Perhaps. He wanted to released Absurd since 2013 at least.

I remember some poster back around then coming on here and telling us that he met Axl and asked about silkworms and Axl supposedly said that they wanted to release silkworms and literally no one believed the poster. At all. Not even a little.

Then we were all proven wrong 8 or 9 years later when it was the first new song that came out after the reunion. This band is nuts.

Yeah, just not understanding why it actually matters if it's formally released or not. That doesn't change anything. You've heard the song. It won't sound nearly as good live. Wanting it to be released and played live is fine, but if it doesn't come out on the 18th, nothing has changed. It's still going to come out.

I mean it’s a sign of the band moving forward. The sooner songs we’ve heard are released, the sooner we hopefully get stuff we haven’t heard. It seems like the General is next in line to be released. The sooner perhaps is out the sooner that comes out.

  13. Axl has sounded the way he does for much of the past 22 years. He blew his voice in the 90s and aside from a year here or a year there it never recovered. But how many stadiums and arenas has he sold out in the past 22 years? Why would he stop touring just because some people on a forum tell him to when the band is still taking in loads of cash? People are saying to drop certain songs from the set list, but they’re forgetting this band has a limited catalog and fans want to see the songs at shows that they know. They don’t want to heat down at the farm instead of you could be mine. They want the radio hits even if he sounds like crap singing them.

I agree. And to be perfectly frank, I can imagine that was one of the big reasons Axl, Slash & Duff had no interest in giving Izzy a share in GNR. Axl has been dealing with that situation for years, he wasn't about to walk back in to another potential complication having got Slash & Duff back.

That's some ego there, Tommy. I'm sure the lure of millions and millions and millions of dollars was what pushed the reunion. Not an interchangeable bassist bailing.

I don’t think Tommy was interchangeable to Axl. Tommy helped put the new band together and keep it together for almost 20 years. Not everything is about money. Axl has no kids, no wife, and doesn’t seem to have the drug problems of a lot of musicians… I don’t think he was hurting for money. He cancelled tours, he took 14 years to release one album and let two others sit unheard, he toured with a band that had an extra guitarist and an extra keyboard player that he honestly didn’t need. Those aren’t the actions of someone concerned about money. I don’t think the money convinced him to bring Slash and duff back. If it was about let the money he would’ve done in it in 2002 when that band fell apart, or in 2009 when it became evident that Chinese democracy wasn’t going to be a hit. Slash needed money, not Axl. The reunion simply happened because Axl needed a bassist and a guitarist.

  15. I don’t think Izzy or Steven were ever legitimately considered to return to GnR. I l can’t see Axl kicking Richard out after years of being loyal through all the lineup changes and I don’t see frank being booted either. Axl knew all he needed was Slash and the majority of people would consider it a reunion.

I honestly think we were pretty close to seeing a Axl, Slash, Tommy, pitman, Dizzy, and Ashba lineup. Axl wasn’t going to boot Tommy either

  16. I don’t think Slash and duff will ever leave again. GnR is easy money for them. I think someone dying is more realistic. Everyone in the band is either in or approaching their 60s and they’ve all beat the crap out of their bodies. That said, I think no matter what Axl continues the band. I don’t think it’s well received considering his voice is shot and he’s 60. When GnR broke up the first time they were still in their prime. Axl came back with energy and people were interested to see how things turned out. I don’t think there would be the same interest and energy now.
