  1. I like this "Longfeather" song... the odd time signature in the verse is cool, and it makes the chorus doubly effective when it goes into a more straight ahead feel. I can't help but imagining what Slash and Axl could've added to it, but I'm glad Duff is out there creating and releasing music into the world.

Anyone knows if the song was inspired by Ayn Rand's book? Anyone here read it? If so, what are your thoughts on the book?

If remember correctly, when Axl came online and did some of the forum chats, someone asked them that question and he said it doesn't have much to do with the book other than the line about having shoulders that are wide enough. I've actually never read the book myself.

Edit: Found it! From Soul Monster's "a-4-d.com" website:

    And explaining the title:

Song doesn't have all that much to do with the book other than trying to do what you believe in and a line about shoulders not being wide enough.

  3. I'm glad to get any GN'R songs we can get!

But yeah, I've been surprised at some of the lackluster response to Atlas, as it's one of my favorite songs from the whole CD sessions. I think it was another example of something being able to handle the weight of the expectations placed upon its shoulders.;) I love the drums, and Axl's vocals (and lyrics). I love how the bass drops out in the first part of the chorus, and just some of the unique musicality as well (it feels like it modulates keys going from the verse to the pre-chorus and chorus). And that's one that I really hope Brian May's solo makes the final version, as it's not only cool (and instantly recognizable as Brian May to me), but it could also bring a whole other promotional angle to the song, which wouldn't hurt.

I'd also be happy to get Soul Monster, State of Grace, Oklahoma (Berlin), Seven, Quick Song, Cuban Skies (if that's real), etc... anything really!

  4. Personally I loved Robin's solo, and at the same time appreciate Slash's solo (it struck me as jarring the first time I heard the soundcheck rehearsal). I imagine it's easy to get attached to a part (especially after listening to it over and over). But I think with time I'll come to love Slash's solo (it's already grown on me to be honest).

I do find the leaving 2 notes of Robin's solo in there funny, although it doesn't bother me personally. I think that decision will end up alongside the "robot" in Better, the Mexican Vampire "But I don't want to do eet" in Sorry, the off-time line in Absurd, etc. as one of those moments that make a lot of fans stop and wonder 'why did Axl choose to do that?' (but it's also personally one of the reasons I'm a fan of the guy, in that he doesn't always take the most obvious route).

What do we think those sequel songs are meant to be ie: OMG2, TIL2. Are those meant to be Brain's remixes or something  else?

My guess with that is maybe remixes? We know that OMG was somewhat reworked based off of the 2018(?) leak with Bumblefoot guitars, so that would be that. TIL has the Brain remix with the Axl superrasp vocals. Pro2 might be Blood in the Water (since that samples some of Prostitute, although I don't know where the "Blood in the Water" vocals come from, if they were recorded specifically for that or taken from elsewhere). Better2 has a couple options (probably the Brain "Better Gone" remix, although there's also the Bumblefoot acoustic version and DJ's version). Chi2 is the only one I don't have a guess on.

A few folks had it as long ago as 2011, myself included. It has other Village songs on it. Here's a screen shot of it:

This is an interesting screenshot, because of the folder behind the image that has VLC media files corresponding to some of the song titles, including ones that we haven't heard ("Se7en" "CSkies"), or at least that we know of anyways. Is this implying that someone have copies of those songs? (although I wonder since "Ab urd" is listed, and I don't think that was known to be Silkworms until right before it was released?, so might this be someone trying to pull a fast one?).

What's also interesting is the name of the folder is "7," which was rumored to be a title for CD2 in some circles.

  7. I'm a big fan of both Brian and Axl and their creative work. I can definitely see the parallels between CD and Smile and the other comparisons pointed out by others. I don't want to stir the pot here (as I know this can be contentious in the online GN'R world), but I can't help but make a mental correlation between Eugene Landy and Team Brazil sometimes too (and I say that without knowing the whole story of course.)

  8. I tried to isolate the "TIL Remix" raspy vocals best I could and loaded it into Pro Tools and mixed it in with the Rock Band stems, so you'd essentially get the remix vocals over the album track. Pretty cool and interesting to hear it that way (;)), although I like both the record and remix versions the way they were to begin with.

  9. Man, Steven is such a good and unique drummer. There aren't many drummers that I could just listen to their isolated drum tracks by themselves and stay entertained, but Steven is definitely one of them. There's all these little subtle things he does that might go unnoticed to a lot of people, but he's a huge part of the original GNR sound.

  10. That's interesting. I seem to remember MSL posting that the "If the World" remix he had had the "We Were Rock You" drum beat sampled underneath it. Looks like he was right. Also, the other song they performed (in addition to "Sorry") is KISS' "Do You Love Me?," albeit very different from the original. An interesting selection of songs to play at an NBA halftime game!

  11. Thanks y'all!

As far as making it goes, I grabbed the isolated drums, guitars, bass and vocal (off of YouTube of all places!), loaded them into Pro Tools, grabbed the parts from after the 2nd chorus, pasted it at the front, then played and tried to match all the synth parts tone-wise. Then played some guitars and put some cymbal parts on it, and mixed it from there...

I'd be glad to try to get a version with Slash's solos and Duff/Melissa's background parts, and also a version that cuts out the original intro. Also, if anyone wants an MP3 of this version, PM me and I'd be glad to send it along when I get back to town Monday...

  12. Hey y'all!

Just wanted to share this mash-up/remix of GNR's "Sorry" and the recent #1 single of Justin Bieber's "Sorry" that I recently did (interestingly enough, the producer of Bieber's Sorry is Skrillex, who is opening the NITL date in Houston…). The overlap of GNR/Justin Bieber fans will probably be pretty small, so this might come across as a little strange to some, but I figured it'd be an interesting musical collision of sorts. I've been working producing/engineering a EDM Pop band in Nashville (which I'll admit to not knowing much about), so I did this to learn a little more about that type of music, while inserting some of my influences in Guns/Axl/rock in there to keep it a little rocking!
