it's all about emotion with Robin. A very soulful player. Doesn't have the chops/technique that Slash got, but he is creative as fuck and his melodies are brilliant imo. There are many types of good guitar players, but sure, go ahead and focus on blowjobs he has received.

I've been playing guitar for nearly 30 years and Robin is in the top 3 worst professional guitar players I've ever seen. Different opinions I guess.

very intelligent thread which means you are very intelligent. The way that you figured out that Duff isn't really that intelligent without even knowing him as a person also shows that you can't be fooled easily. Top shit.

Actually its funny Andy Anderson reminds me of Duff but super intelligent with his accent & mannerisms.

Actually when I get back from vacation I'll see if I can find the quote with Duff talking about politics it was "Why can't this dude work it out with the another dude" it was priceless.

Hey even Matt Sorum said the same in his book! Don't shoot the messenger!

That was a good one, too (probably in response to comments on fan forums ):

Axl (introducing the band): My name is Fat Bastard and these are the Yes Men.  [Target Center, Minneapolis, USA, November 14, 2002]

Finck got blown by Manson onstage so I guess he is the ultimate yes man.....I always thought some favors must have been done for him to get in GNR as bad as he is on guitar.

The Street of Dreams solo from Slash was complete dogshit. Completely shat on the CD Guitarists. If you don’t want to practice it just have Fortus do it. Sounded like a kid trying to stay in key and improvise in a high school garage band. Axl didn’t even sound that different from 2011/2012, think he was fine.

And so he should because they shat on him (without trying to but just from lack of ability sans BH).

I love that Slash treated every one of their solos as a joke and put down his own.

No, there was nothing about another member. The part about Frank was what supposedly Duff told Matt (Slash wasn't mentioned there).

OK, my 2 cents on everything, I will repeat mine beacuse people tend to always take sides of some member last 20 years as if it were their family member.

Fortus and Frank comeback.  Poster Moneypenny or whatever says 'Neither Slash nor Duff are too thrilled about F n F duo. One of them is hated by both, the other one is tolerated by one of the 2'.

I've never been a huge Stones fan (blasphemy, I know), but I think the Guns version is just objectively better. While the Stones one does sound more sinister, the Guns version has everyone sounding in top form - the build on Axl's voice to where he's unleashing at the end, Slash's ripping it at the same time - just awesome. I think the song works really well for Axl's baritone too.

As an aside, it's always had a tinge of sad irony to it because they were initially heralded as "The next Rolling Stones" and for this to be one of the last things they did as a band just has a sting to it.

Hell yeah Slash goes total caveman in the solo section!

I haven't finished the book yet, but I wonder if it's shelved because of all these things. I am far more apalled/grossed out by all of that than I am shocked by his sneers towards Slash, Duff or anyone else. Seriously, I am not a loud feminist who yells ME TOO! at every corner, but all of this I find genuinely awful, and reading on here: 'He's just a guy fucking as many women as he could' as if it's some kind of feat? Ugh. He's talking about breaking in and rating exploited girls FFS. And as far as I can see, he feels quite good about it. Drawing the parallel with what's going on today, could you imagine a slave handler breaking in some slaves and a publisher publishing that book?

I have never liked Matt, but reading his book makes me find him an absolutely atrocious, despicable person. I read Duff's and Slash's books too, and I'm not saying they were/are noble men, but this is taking it a whole lot further imo.

I always wondered why Jimmy Page had a get out for jail free card.....that guy was a true piece of shit

These are all opinions and there's nothing right or wrong with them since it's all about taste. Robin, with exception of the Better solo, doesn't get me. I love guitar and the GNR songs, but his attempts are cringeworthy to me. His TIL solo is not bad but it sounds forced.

When I first heard Slash play the TIL solo it was like... Wow... the king is back! You thought his solo was just noodling? To me these were exact the right notes to play. That wasn't noodling. He made his guitar cry once again with awesome bendings and nice runs.

I admit this was at the beginning of the tour in 2016, later on he started noodling more and more and he didn't play it consistently good.

I'd love to hear Slash do Streets of Dreams.....I actually think Robin did a decent job on that one …..when you think of the time frame these guys had to work on CD compared to Slash and co bashing out the UYI.....its almost laughable.

I never gave two shits about TIL until I heard it live and Slash just lay it down....hes does have some off nights but he is playing off the cuff …..something probably only Bumble/Bucket and Fortus had the ability to do solidly

Some of the awkward bends are intentional. Finck learned traditional guitar when he was young. Then he threw the book out and began experimenting with different sounds whole developing his own sound. Like those before him ie: Les Paul, Hendrix eve etc.

The awkward bends and especially  he sporadically jumps up and down the fret board finding gorgeous notes is quite unique and fresh sounding. That and his raunchy grudge tone. All the reasons why he got the gnr gig in the first place.

Just like you guys as a Slash fan  I thought he was terrible in 2001-2002 but he really grew on me in a big way.

Buckethead too. Most thought this guy is like a robot. You need to play with emotion, from the heart and your with soul If you are replacing Slash.

Well it turned out Bucket was just as soulful and otherworldly

Nah even Ashby’s first time playing it was superior than Slash’s

If you think this slop is intentional

Bonus "pop shot" face from Fortus too

Slash butchers this I love worse than any song in history. The band are playing one song and slash is playing something completely different. The album solo is fantastic, so much passion, the Ashba solo was good. The slash version shows exactly where he is in this version of guns - there for a payday and no more.

The difference is Slash is (and CAN) improvising to what he feels on the night ...he is hit and miss sometimes but he completely smokes Finck.

Hands down the single worst guitarist to ever perform under the GNR name.   I'd take fucking Ashba over him any day.   Cause at least Ashba played the goddamn songs the way they were meant to be played.

Robin's take on the AFD stuff is excruciating.   He sounds like a little kid that found his dad's guitar and just started fucking around with it.

I saw him with NIN and he was great, but for fuck's sake, was he godawful in Guns N Roses.

Yeah I really wonder about some of the people that praise him...I've been playing guitar for 20 years and he is a terrible player for GNR.

For hack n slash overblown image NIN stuff he fits but songs like head like a hole doesn't require much skills.

  12. Funny how Matt mentions how dumb Slash and Duff are, also how they don't shower etc.

I read somewhere Slash got busted not flushing or wiping back in the day at a recording studio?!!? ROFL

I remember in the early days he broke a neck on a guitar just cutting the strings off all at the same time when changing them and a tech had to show him how to do it properly.

In the year in the life Metallica videos he admits he doesn't even know how to turn on his amps.

    Crazy times

I want to hear more details about the end of the relationship. I could practically quote what I know by heart 😂. I don't understand why he was so much more broken hearted over her than his Ex wife, who he dated for four years before they got married. It couldn't have just been able the kid.

Wasn't he though? One of the songs in CD talked about no one telling him the truth.

I'm glad he called out Fernando....that guy won the lottery

Thats the same attitude hugh grant had when he was caught with that prostitute, and he was going out with liz hurley at that stage.

Im starting to think that all these models , actresses etc are hopeless in the sack and sometimes guys just want the girl next door so to speak.

Yeah didn't Denise Richards say she found a lot of dude videos Charlie had apparently?

Something must happen to these people when they can get whatever they want.
