It sounds like some amateur just put his screeching guitar track over the whole thing.
This is exactly what happened. I did this a few years ago when I was first starting this hobby of pasting screeching guitar tracks on GNR tunes. Thanks Manets for making me look like an ass.
It's not the playing...its the tone. But lets be real I could do no better!

Sounds pretty good in a couple of the videos. My least favorite part of This I love live has got to be DJs solo. I am not a DJ hater but he cant even come close to Robins studio take.

Ron seems like a pretty "in touch" guy as far as music goes. Whether you like his music or not, he seems to have the big picture on things. Cool guy

Everyone brings up sales and how much it will sell...I don't think axl really cares about sales. I think he releases music to put his "art" out there. I think he enjoys the aspect of tinkering in the studio etc. even years before Chinese he would talk about it and play songs off it and seemed proud of it. It doesn't eem like he has that drive anymore. He doesn't talk about new music and seems on autopilot...just my opinion. I don't think it affects him if "no one gives a shit about a new GnR album". I think he releases music for the love of music not for money. And I do think an album would perform well...due to the extensive touring.
Extensive touring for an album that didn't have any impact since 2008 when it was released, shows love for money, not love for music. If he put his lazy ass in the studio and made a new album, then he could prove the opposite.
You are right, he doesn't seem to be interested or have a drive for new stuff. I would guess that he is dissapointed and miserable reg. music.
He probably expected CD to be bigger, he probably expected nuGNR to equal or surpass GNR and that probably had the greatest impact on him.
I think ultimately he took the sub par success of CD too personally as he seems like a guy that takes things personally. It understandable if he is miserable about how the Chinese release went but he had every chance to fix it. He could have promoted it and not notably made corrections to the mistake ridden booklet. Even a re release. Who knows...maybe he did make a trilogy worth of songs and is burnt out and trying to regain funds. That still doesn't answer why he doesn't release any of it.

I had no idea he was so powerful in 2010. Too bad I saw them twice in 2011/2012.

I think the Catcher solo is pretty bad (both of them, the main and one at the end)
-
The first main solo is Ron and the second tappy solo is Buckethead as far as a know.
Edit: Nevermind, I misunderstood your post. Bacardimayne is right.
-
I agree, Riad is one of the best on the album I think.
-
I like the solo on SR. Someone previous said they don't but a "conventional" bluesy solo simply wouldn't fit in the song. Its a weird song and therefore needs a weird solo. Just my opinion though.

Thanks for the info
That is certainly...interesting. Axl must have really been bothered (although he says he wasn't) by this Madison chick to sit there and type all of that out. Thats a post you have to think about to get all those "colorful" adjectives in there.
Now the real question is, was she that bad?
-
What exactly is the deal with Madison and Axl's rant? Does anyone have a copy of it? I heard about over at newgnr.com but I never looked into it. What happened?

The issue with putting out CD era material is that it has already proved that it won't be a (huge) success. Granted, yes, they wouldn't have to pour more money into it to simply release it but I don't hold the belief that the best is out there. Wouldn't the label/Axl look at the 36 songs made and put the best of CD? If thats the case then we have songs worse than Scraped out there waiting to be released.
What label does GNR currently belong to? Or is it run by Axl? How many more albums does their contract force them to release? I would imagine they at least have one more album they are contractually obliged to release if they still belong to a "traditional" label.

I think it's all about marketing. If GNR were to come out and aggressively market a follow up to CD, I think people would respond by giving it a listen. A second album might even promote sales of CD because I feel like a lot of people don't even really know it's out there due to the poor marketing.
Possibly.
Making it Best Buy exclusive was a very dumb idea but the label wanted their money back.
Certainly was. Best Buy is a dying company as well. People just don't go there anymore, they just order offline. I recently went in to Best Buy as could not even find Chinese Democracy in their store.

Can anyone here play the Shacklers Revenge solo?

No offense, I thought both of those were awful. I have no doubt Ron could do that
