  1. Fortus may be a "better live performer" than Izzy, but does that really matter when, despite all of this charisma he supposedly oozes, 98% of the people in the average GNR crowd would take boring ol' Izzy on stage over him in a heartbeat?

I think you're overestimating most people's insight into the role of Izzy in old GNR. As far as I'm concerned, given that new material with old GNR is out of the question on the basis of tour sustainability, it's a matter of who plays the material best. Does a noodling Izzy top Richard Fortus? No. Does Slash top Dj? Easily.

In that case, bring in Myles Kennedy to replace Axl.
Have you heard Myles do GNR? What I mean to say is, have you heard Myles try to do GNR? Obviously, of all people to do GNR, you have Axl and Slash as your first choices.

I've experienced it live and it was pretty fuckin' good. Not as good as Axl from 2006-2010, but definitely better than one of his average 2011-13 performances.

And to be honest, I'll go as far as to say that I've never heard Axl Rose sing SCOM live as well as Myles does on a day-to-day basis, even in his prime years.

Give this man a prize, because he hit it on the head. Myles right now sings the Gn'R tunes better than Axl, and Myles kills (in a good way) Sweet Child.

    lol myles

insert axl rose disaster vol 1 and 2 videos here.

  2. There was so many of you wanting this release to be cancelled. Now they are complaining about this not coming out.

who wanted it to be cancelled? give me the names. terrible poster.

The regular people that post nothing but "Axl's fat, can't sing, lame setlist, etc etc" were ragging on this because they assumed Axl's voice would suck, and some people wanted a 2010 show released instead.

I was actually pretty stoked for this.... Oh well.....

    no one wanted this cancelled.

  3. amazing show for a festival, 21 songs, great visuals but pretty standard setlist. really liked the new track "find my way", minimal beat with Fragile-like ambiance by the end. trent was a little rusty i'd say, but he was very very good, specially on Hurt.

even playing songs like closer, hlah and hurt, it felt fresh and never nostalgic (gnr could learn a lesson), they brought back "sanctified".

i expect more deep cuts during tension 2013, these festivals are not a good way to judge the setlist. anyway, NIN is back and that's what matters.

  4. I remember when Scott's letter appeared on the Velvet Revolver website. They had a pretty cool backstage-themed design at the time and his letter was basically encoded as like a Flash page or something...but then it was taken down pretty shortly thereafter.

Yeah, in an RS article a couple of years later:

I had a lot of baggage walking into my situation. I was in a band where at the end, it was pretty much three against one. And so I'm pretty sure that it felt that way to Axl as well. I have to say this, and I'm not just saying this now because of my situation I went through, but I heard a lot of great Guns n' Roses stories you guys in the press will never hear. Everyone has made Axl out to be this horrendously crazy person, this bad guy, and I don't know him very well at all. He and I for whatever reason got almost tricked into this little media spat for a moment because one of our band members happened to run into him and said that he said something. So, my point being that having been in a band with Velvet Revolver now for five and a half years, I'm not quite so sure that it was all Axl's fault.

That Scott is an odd duck.

As much as I totally think the whole GN'R breakup was a convoluted mess and Axl was NOT the only one to blame, I do think Scott purposely said this to sort of piss off the VR guys, probably knowing how much it would irritate them. I also know that Scott has been extremely volatile as a frontman and basically been kicked out of two high-profile gigs, VR and even his own original band, STP (the DeLeo brothers started referring to him as "Axl" behind the scenes due to his diva behaviour). So as much as I like the guy and think he's a great performer, he's got plenty of issues, and not the same kind as Axl: he has narcotic issues, and if he doesn't seek help he's gonna end up in an early grave like all his fallen heroes some day.

Having said that, yeah, I'm sure some of the stories he heard about Axl may have been exaggerated at times. When VR first formed in 2003/2004 I think a lot of them were still a bit resentful, and it was one of the first times they'd really all jammed together since GN'R, so I'm sure certain issues and stories came up.

Totally agree. I'm sure Beta filtered our exactly what happened that night and since she despises Slash probably more than Axl does, I'm sure she hammed it up.

I think the press release itself was very clearly written by - or at least heavily revised by - Axl. His writing style is all over it. From what I understand, Beta was the one who spoke to Slash, and she passed it along to Axl. The stuff about him saying he "hates Matt," etc., all that stuff, who knows how accurate it is, or if it was ever even said in that way. She could have paraphrased what he said, and then by the time it got to Axl it had turned into direct quotes. Who knows? We'll never know.

Pretty weird, though: that's probably the closest we ever got to Axl and Slash 'reuniting' in years and years...him showing up at his house and being turned away.

And it doesn't necessarily mean, even if it's true, that Slash was really intent on leaving VR or anything. People (i.e. Slash-haters) sometimes use that against Slash as some kind of example of how he's manipulative or whatever. But he had just relapsed, right? Have any of you guys ever gotten really drunk and tried to contact an ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend, then totally regretted it the next day and asked yourself why you did it? In my mind, I kinda see it as one of those emotional moments of weakness, fueled by alcohol, where Slash probably just wanted to mend a messy relationship and thought he could do it due to the drunken confidence. I'm sure with a sober head he wouldn't have attempted it in that manner, just showing up at his doorstep in the middle of the night. But I've been in those shoes.

    great post.

  5. He seems happily frustrated with GN'R at the moment. Maybe he will eventually and Buckethead can rejoin?

Buckethead will never play with Axl again. Axl was stupid enough not only to burn his bridges with Slash who is a legend and a rock icon, but also with Buckethead who's probably the most talented and prolific guitar player of the last decades. Yes, Axl is THAT stupid.

  6. Ron seems pissed.

The situation is very bizarre. The band are desperate to record, the fans are desperate to hear new music... so what's stopping Axl???

    Writer's block?

    Lack of passion?

    Laziness?

Lack of something meaningful to say/write a songabout?

Emotional exhaustion from the stress of CD?

Not wanting to relive the CD experience?

Label issues--Label not willing to fund or promote next album unless certain conditions of theirs are met, which Axl doesn't like?

    Simply not giving a fuck?

    Some combo of the above?

lack of demand for a nugnr album ?

to have demand, you need to create it. put out new music, do cool video et c

Do a cool video? What decade are you living in? When was the last time anyone gave a shit about a music video by a rock band?

there is this website called youtube, you probably have heard about it unless you are living in another decade.

Are you incapable of answering basic questions?

whoa, calm down idiot. go watch some MTV and rest a little.
