I thought it was a Tom Jones song at first!

Usual Slash, when he makes a mistake he's struggling really hard to comeback to the original solo. I expect him to master it soon.
Hopefully, yes.

Much better!

That solo has just taken the entire shine off this performance for me. Todd sounds great on vocals, but the difference between the original solo and this, err, noodling monstrosity of a solo is the epitome of how much Slash's playing has actually gotten worse as he's aged. He's not even hitting the changes in the melody, which the original does so well, it's just flat out noodling with no connection to the underlying song.

Came across this earlier today; some cool signed gear available as well as one of Slash's first Les Pauls if you're so inclined!

Didn't see this posted anywhere else, although it is quite old, but here is an interesting set of comments from the band (minus Axl of course) regarding the use of in-ear monitors. The topic of whether or not Slash enjoyed using IEM came up in the Paris gig thread a couple of days ago regarding his current playing style/ability. Although it's basically a sell for JH, seems like they all love the experience of IEM, which was a first for Slash and Duff.

🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟So glad this is a semi permanent edition of late! Slash is sounding good on this IMO! Axl is loving those screams...
Wow, this has to be one of the best things I've heard Slash play lately, definitely over the last two years! Structure, homage to the original tune and no incessant noodling! 👏

Pretty Tied Up... some great audience interaction from Axl... a golf clap! 👏
However, what's now becoming the norm; Slash nonchalantly going through the motions and fucking up another well crafted solo that suited the song by trying to shove in as many twiddly notes as possible.
-
Brilliant, raw gig, full of mistakes, monitors getting booted of the stage and lots of amusing anecdotes such as:
"While we're jamming on... woah, I guess we're done with it now! Nevermind, that's the end of that tune." - Slash, You Ain't the First
Love it. Best GN'R thing I've seen or heard in a long long time.

why the heck do you think anyone outside UK cares about British Queen?
Clearly you're unaware of the many thousands upon thousands of foreign tourists who visit Britain every day, the great majority of whom will stand outside of her house at least once on their trip.
She was a figure head, she had no power over anyone. The British Empire was slowly dismantled during her reign; most countries got their independence back and many were happy to remain part of the Commonwealth and have the Queen as their Head of State.
Whether you like the Royal Family or not, and I accept a lot of people don't like them, doesn't mean that someone should be denounced for simply showing some respect to a person whom they deem deserves it. Axl is showing his respect, so what has that got to do with you, and how does it affect the reason you follow Axl for in the first place? You're here for the music aren't you? Not Axl's personal stance on the world today.
As for any Argentinian who waxes indignant about a British hat; the Falklands war happened 40 years ago dude... let it go, move on!

The Street of Dreams solo Slash played in Groningen was a lot better IMHO. Seemed to have more structure and more held notes and feel than his previous attempts.

Just watched the latest take on this solo in Warsaw; it's worse than the one he did in Prague! It sounds like a random brain dump onto the fretboard, which isn't even in time with the chord changes or melody of the song. One of Slash's favourite sayings is how he always tries to get what's going on in his head to his fingers and onto the fretboard as fast as he can, but It's not working as well as he'd hoped in these two cases.
This sort of playing in my experience of playing in a band is usually down to one of two things:
1. He has absolutely no love for the song. Doesn't matter if you're in a garage band or playing stadiums; if you aren't digging the song then you're going to put in as little effort to playing as possible. You might be professional and courteous enough to say to your band mates "yeah, I'll do that" but if your heart and head isn't into that song then you aren't going to dwell on learning it properly, or taking any care in how you perform it live. Been there done that.
2. There are personal problems going on in your head/life/world which are affecting your ability to put your all into something. Granted though, this scenario would also affect your entire performance so to me it's likely to be the first.
As an aside, Duff looks absolutely bored-to-tears these last two gigs as well... they don't look like a happy band at the moment, well apart from Axl who's looking great!

I disagree, It's the first time I honestly can say that Myles couldn't squeeze more from the material he got. And it's the first time he did some interesting work on melody (WGYB, ASLTW, April Fool, Fill My World, CLV) using his lower registers. After few listens what made this album average is lack of any good solos and terrible production.
Ok, so I gave it another run through and I think you do have a point about Myles using his lower register when singing those afore mentioned songs.

Yeah I love the 'instant skip' part in reviewing an album aswell.
I didn’t skip it when I played the album through in full, even though I’ve listened to the song many times before today, but if I were to put the album on again it would indeed be an instant skip.
It’s Myles voice that I can’t stand for the main part.

First, and probably the last time, I'll play this album unfortunately. Just like Living The Dream which has only had one play too!
My immediate thoughts on some of the songs as I've gone through them:
TL/DR: Some good riffs and solos, which are immediately destroyed by Myles' voice and lyrics. As usual. 2* out of 5*.
- C'est la vie: Nice to hear the talk box out. Shit lyrics.
- The Path Less Followed: Good guitar solo, classic Slash, feel sounds similar to the Back & Forth Again solo. Vocals are down in the mix = a good thing!
- Actions Speak Louder Than Words: Intro very Led Zeppelin-ish.
- Spirit Love: Different. Nice intro, which conjures up images of Oddball from Kelly's Heroes sitting on his tank
- Fill My World: Main riff sounds like a 5 year old trying to play Sweet Child O' Mine in the local guitar shop. Instant skip.
- April Fool: Nice intro riff... then Myles
- Call Off The Dogs: Great opening to the song, again sounds like classic Slash right up to the point that Myles' voice nukes the song from orbit. Just to be sure.
- Fall Back To Earth: a poor version of Messages mixed with Fall To Pieces
-
Listened to it a few times now and I wouldn't care if I never heard it again! Totally forgettable, just like his last album, and that is mainly down to Myles' vocals; they just bore me within seconds, lyrically and acoustically. I've loved everything Slash has done since first leaving GN'R... right up until he started writing whole albums with Myles.
HS & Absurd are in a different league for me, much better guitar work and that raw Slash sound that's been missing of late. Plus, Axl is on there too which elevates it hugely above anything SMKC have, or will ever put out.

I hated Silkworms, and wasn't keen on the live version they performed the other day but this single is now on repeat; it sounds like a decent evolution of Guns N' Roses' music. Different, and I don't think anyone can expect them to be stuck in the 80's. Slash's guitar sounds old-school Guns though, way better than his SMKC sound. Love it.
By the way, Siri can't find 'Absurd' by Guns N' Roses, but if you ask for the 'New Guns N' Roses Single' she finds it no problem, but pronounces it 'Absooth' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Skipped the posts past page 3 so sorry if this has been mentioned but regarding Slash’s “noodling” this version of Yesterday’s solo epitomises his new style:
There’s about three times as many notes in there as to what he recorded. It’s his song to do with what he wants but it really detracts from the song in my opinion.
For me, the reason is simple: the songs are played way too fast. He can’t sit back into the slower groove that is should be so he’s throwing in as many notes as possible to cover his lack of ability to change his solo to the new groove.
Franks fault.

This band is sloppy as fuck; they're all over the place with their timing. All the songs are played too fast, Slash's guitar tone sounds like shit these days (don't know how when he's using the same Jubilee's but there you go), DTJ drum intro is weird as fuck... but I thought Axl sounded alright in these three tracks.

I dont think so. The band trust TB with merch, its all TBs decision. The band couldnt care less.
Well that’s a hell of a lot of trust to put into someone with regards to how your business is perceived.
Maybe you’re right though, maybe they’ve got so much money they couldn’t give a shit how things look going forward.
-
I don’t get the resentment towards Fernando or TB, yes they’re the bands management but this has come straight from the band, or more likely Axl.
Even if Fernando did come out with The idea, which I doubt, do you really think he’d just push it out there without the green light from the big three directors of the company who employ him?
This is 100% the band putting this out.

I like some tracks from it instrumentally but Myles isnt for me, aside of that, I think SMKC has been a very generic project since day one, I dont think commercial is the right word, but I think Slash lost a lot of his oldschool influences on these records compared to Snakepit.
It really lacks that bluesy sleazy he had on Its 5 o Clock and Aint Life Grand.
Exactly this. It's all too generic, and I think the word commercial is a fitting one.
For me it's Myles' voice which spoils all of these songs. It grates on me so much I can't listen to these later albums any more. That said...
8 hours ago, MaskingApathy said:He's in a different place and headspace now. Although I think some of those SMKC riffs still have the bluesy sleazy.
... the bluesy sleazy riffs and ideas are still there, they're just lost behind the awful vocals. There was a video posted a while back of Slash being interviewed about one thing or the other and he's sitting just running through a few of the riffs from LTD by himself; they come across completely differently than on the album. I'll see if I can find it:

Slash has definitely changed his playing style over the past few years. He's still awesome, and still my favourite player but I really do prefer his older style; slower, melodic and passionate.
I'd take any of his sloppy drunk solos from the 90's over anything on the NITL tour, or his recent solo tour. For example, this Wicked Stone performance from London this year sounds like an almost isolated guitar track:
There's absolutely no emotion in that solo what so ever. It's boring and not very inspirational. Yes he's playing quickly but there's no structure to it at all.
Compared to this Tokyo '92 solo in Double Talkin' Jive:
The difference is night and day to me, but I guess it's all down to what you prefer. Some may prefer technical-Slash from NITL and some prefer drunk-Slash from the 90's. I'm very much in the latter camp.
Also, the main problem with NITL is the songs are played way way faster than they used to be played on the Illusions tour. That will naturally speed up a guitar player and force them to be reaching for notes quicker than they'd prefer.
Just my 2p anyway :-)
Oh, and saying Clapton, Richards, Harrison and Robertson are not big time guitar players is off the fucking map. Can't believe I just read that!

I've met Slash a couple of times in the past; once in 2000 in Camden, London after a Snakepit show, and once with the rest of the band before a Velvet Revolver show in Hammersmith, London in 2004.
The Snakepit one was after the gig, out of the side door of the The Underworld. There were maybe a dozen or so people out there and he signed everything, even in the pissing rain. I remember thinking he wasn't as tall as I imagined, and when I asked him to sign something he said sure as he looked over the top of his glasses at me, and I just turned around and he signed my well-worn denim jacket.
So, the Velvet Revolver one came about when they were doing some sort of promotion "meet-and-greet" in Virgin Megastore (can't remember which one to be honest), might have been the day before or after the gig. Anyway, me and my mate got there pretty early, about 11am, but saw that the queue to meet them snaked through all of the aisles in the shop, and out of the door and around the entire building. Fuck that. We went on the piss all afternoon until they were due to turn up at 4 or 5pm.
So come late afternoon, and many pints later, we went into the shop to see what was happening. The queue was sectioned off but you could still browse the records etc. I tried to bribe some of the people in the front of the queue with £40 to let me join them, but they flat out refused.
By this time, the band were all sitting down in a row getting press photographs taken by a bunch of photographers standing in a group in front of them. The "meet-and-greet" queue started just to the left of them, ready to take it in turns to walk along and meet each band member.
As my bribe didn't work I stood at the right of the table and simply waited until security guard A went left, and security guard B went right and I jumped straight into the middle of the photographers and just stood there staring at the band with them. One photographer who actually noticed me asked me to name the guys from left to right which I did. Of course, I asked him if he could get me into the queue to meet the band, but he said he couldn't. Being full of alcohol and confidence I just waited until the photographers started packing up and just as the queue of fans was going to be unleashed, I stood at the front of the queue and was the *first* person of the day to meet the band.
Everyone else had Contraband records to sign... I had absolutely nothing, so I just took my t-shirt off and handed it to Duff, who was first on the table. They all chuckled. Slash was next; I shook his hand forcing him to move his cigarette into his mouth so he could do so, and along the line I went.
Got to Scott at the end, who was super nice BTW, and he noticed my thick Northumbrian accent and asked if I was Scottish. No no, I said, I'm from near Newcastle in the North East. This pricked up Matt Sorum's ears who said he absolutely adored Newcastle Brown Ale. So do I mate, so do I.
And off I went, reconvening in another pub along the road watching the snake of people go into Virgin Megastore with another pint of Guinness in my hand, which at some point must have spilt right down my shirt and over Slash's autograph...
So yeah, both times I met Slash he was kinda cool. Oh, I waited for him to come out of a gig with Ronnie Wood in 2001, but he was with Perla and Ronnie and they all bolted into a waiting limousine and rushed away!
