  1. It seems to be as simple as Izzy being gone and Axl needed someone to write with. The band had completely stalled by then with Axl and Slash being at their throats, and Axl probably hoped they could rally around making music with Paul being the the catalyst. According to Axl the rest of the band (aka Slash and Duff) did nothing to make things proceed and Slash had been gone for quite a while focusing on his own project (Snakepit). I guess it was a desperate, ill-fated and badly executed attempt from Axl. It didn't go down well with particularly Slash who were already pretty pissed at Axl; breaking the illusion of a band of brothers by dominantly inserting an outsider really pissed him off. In normal circumstances it shouldn't have, because the band had at this sage gone through some changes (Slash had grudgingly accepted the entry of Dizzy), but at this point Slash was so opposed to Axl that it broke the camel's back.

I love the people who refuse to accept that Axl might actually be a problem. Let's recap this guy's history:

    • Been accused of beating his ex wife and former girlfriend
    • Has lost three lead guitarists (Slash, Buckethead, Finck)
    • Has gone through at least 6 managers....all of whom he claimed weren't competent in some way
    • at least two hours late to every show
    • Had his "comeback" tour cancelled by the label for refusing to show
    • Took 10+ years on an album that was finished years below and thus wasted the time, energy and career of several bandmates
    • Shows up fat and out of shape to shows
    • Has let his most important career asset, his voice, slip to the point of being embarrassing
    • Admits that he doesn't show up to rehearsals
    • Lied to fans (claimed a video for better, gave release dates, etc.)
    • Has released one album of new material in 22 years

I'm sure Slash, Izzy, Duff, Matt and company have their issues. But there is one common denominator to all of the issues....Axl Rose. He has turned into a joke. Slash isn't a joke. People still consider him an icon. Maybe his new music isn't awesome, but he isn't laughed at. Axl is a joke touring under the name of the people who he demonizes. He is a hypocrite...badmouthing the old band but happy to profit playing more than 50% of his set list (and the only songs people want to hear) on the backs of what they created.

Anyone who could seriously think that Axl is anything less than 90% at fault for the state of GNR today is kidding themselves. It started happening during the User Your Illusion era and it became intolerable. The guy can't go onstage on time. He can't show up to rehearsals. He can't put out music. He is late for everything. He can't take criticism or accountability so he surrounds himself with sycophants; housekeepers and fans are now his inner circle because anyone who actually objectively gives him any feedback is considered an enemy. Anything that goes wrong with Guns N Roses is everyone else's fault, even though Axl has put himself in complete control of everything Guns N Roses.

This band is at the end. It is a complete tragedy and one of the greatest wastes of potential in our lifetime....these guys could have been the Rolling Stones of a generation, but Axl's narcissism became too much to control and has turned this into basically a touring cover band. That's all they are...nothing more. The reason the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame didn't want the new band at the ceremony is because they don't belong at the ceremony. That would be if Michael Jordan wanted the Washington Wizards to go in the hall of fame wth him along with the Chicago Bulls...just stupid.

Now there is some goofball with a top hat doing a bad Slash imitation who has never written a good song in his life on stage with a bunch of patsies taking money to pretend to be a band that they are not. Axl is obese, out of shape and a shadow of his former self. He gets out to South America every two years to pay the bills and now has found a home in Vegas with Carrottop and other B artists and sideshow curiosities.

The handful of people who come on this board to unconditionally back Axl in many cases weren't even alive to witness GNR in their prime and have not watched this evolve. Those who have seem to be hanging onto something that doesn't exist anymore...."what I thought was true before were lies I couldn't see......" The lyrics are true. It sucks because a lot of time and energy has been wasted hoping Axl would deliver but he will not. He is an extremely flawed individual whose ego overshadows his incredible talent and he is too stubborn to get out of his own way.

    whoah :(

sad to admit it but it is all true..... and you forgot the fans he stigmatized out in public, just because they point out some flaws that were killing GN'R.

Thing is... if Axl is sick in the head, then he shouldnt be doing any of this. Should be retired going through some treatment......

I dont know for how long this act will stay together. The Vegas thing and Southamerican tours will be worn out too. Not like people there are retarded and will keep going to see the same show over and over for a decade.

I feel it's coming to and end where he either delivers a new album or breaks the band and bye bye.

  2. Who the fuck, in 2010, in the music business, rejects a GNR album?

It is necessary to understand that ChiDem was a flop because of the expectations that surrounded. From a regular standpoint, it sold well above the average record. As anything with the GNR/Axl Rose Label would: if Axl literally records himself taking dumps for a month and releases a double album it will sell.

LOL... anyone who is not in this forum obsessing about GN'R 24/7.

Normal people out there think GN'R is a bunch of bullshit without SLASH.

It could also be because the album sucked..... chances are big. hello.

ChinDem was a flop because it had no fucking promotion OTHER THAN Axl Rose coming to some unknown forums lost in the DEEP WEB (LOL) to talk to obsessive fans. No fucking single, no video, no nothing.... And it's not like the album didn't have awsome tracks. It did! but I don't know what the hell...... it was the most awaited album for a decade, in the media and die-hard fans planet but not by the rest of humanity.

Maybe Axl thought it would sell itself, but after so much time, most people forgot who the fuck GN'R are and when finding out there was no Slash on it, most people said ok, fuck it.

I don't think Axl's fart album would sell anything nowadays. Back in 1993, when he was a major turn on for women and men equally, YES. But youth and beauty are long gone.

  3. such a draaaaaaaag thinking of all this....... :(

And I tell you, people who are not die-hard fans like us, don't wanna know a thing about this band anymore......

I read the Rock On The Range Facebook and everybody were in flames giving shit to it.... :(

I understand..... then what was Axl supposed to do?

I think he should have started his own band and send everything else to hell..... while waiting for Slash to "cool down"....

  5. I always related the whole GN'R break up to what romantic relationships are like.... and I have to wonder why in the hell did Axl want to bring someone from the "outside" into the group?

It happens to couples too. Someday, usually the man, wants a threesome or some cheating begins and that's the end of it all....

Well, what the hell happened that Axl needed to bring this third wheel Paul Tobias into the band? I'd be pissed off too... It's like discrediting the rest of the members. Why would they need this Tobias when they wrote AFD and the Illusions without that guy?

Axl makes no fuckin' sense at times...

  6. Axl has burned his bridges in the U.S.

Nobody wants to work with him.

This isn't helped by him hiring unqualified ex-nannies to manage his band.

This is seriously a disgrace...... never would have thought GN'R would drop to that level, after being the most dangerous band in the world......

I'd say they are pretty dangerous still, from a business standpoint, for someone interested in investing in their music :P

    LOL.... well.... >_<

  8. Well said...........

Slash absolutely nailed it. You can see the anger in his face when he talks about this.

I'm not sure how many of you were actually alive and old enough to appreciate this era..but this cover was absolutely unnecessary and accomplished nothing for the band.

Somewhere toward the end of the Illusions is where Axl really started to slip into the insane state he is in today....I think "Sympathy for the Devil" was when he jumped the shark.

I'm going to recap where I believe Axl started to lose his mind and made some questionable decisions:

-Putting "My World" on Use Your Illusion II without anyone else's permission from the band

-Two versions of "Don't Cry"....really very unneccessary

-A horn section and backup singers on the 1992-1993 leg of the tour

-The whole album "The Spaghetti Incident".....GNR had already done covers of "Live and Let Die" and "Knockin' on Heaven's Door".....releasing an entire album of covers was a downright bizarre move that nobody but hardcore fans appreciated

-The Sympathy for the Devil cover....as Slash stated, this was a disaster....this song did nothing in the US...the Stones song couldn't be improved...Axl basically did what he wanted with it without the permission of the rest of the band

-"Oh My God" in 1999.....nobody outside of a handful of people in this forum thought this was anything but garbage...a huge disappointment

-The MTV appearance in 2002....Axl's voice was horrible....he embarrassed the rest of the band

-Aborted 2003 tour...a missed opportunity by where there was still a window of acceptance for the music

-Waiting until November 2008 for Chinese Democracy release....this whole release was a disaster....no promotion, picking a crappy album cover when the other artwork was fantastic; not releasing singles which might have been hits (This I Love)....no videos....just a horrible mess

-Hiring his stupid housekeeper and her son as his manager....these bush league amateurs continue to run the band into the ground

This band is a joke today. They are basically a shadow of what they were...it is basically the Guns N Roses travelling revue. What was once one of the coolest rock bands of all time has been systematically destroyed and turned into a joke by Axl....I think it became real to Slash in 1994 that it was happening when Sympathy for the Devil came out and you can see his frustration as it was going up in flames.

    wow

  9. Well..... I can't blame him....... I really don't think any of us here would turn down the opportunity to sell their shit if they were milking a band like GN'R....

so who's gonna cast the first stone?

Yeah, I do think it sorts of whore the whole GN'R thing out... but what he does is not much worse than Bumblefoot promoting his upcoming album, Stinson leaving temporarily to go with the Replacements..... I don't feel fond of any of these musicians to be honest. Im not into any of them or their side-projects. So I really don't give a shit about Ashbag's swag....... I'm here for Axl so if I have to put up with these temporary assholes and their temporary tents then so be it! (just for the sake of music and rock n' roll)

  10. I'm pretty sure the entire community has given him more money via concerts worldwide than that lol. Axl will do what he wants, when he wants to do it and it's been that way since high school. Why some of you think this is something new is beyond me.

hey, are you Combos from Gnronline.com?

The one and only. Why? lol

    wow.

hahaa.... just wondering because I was there back in the day too (under a different name, though) and I haven't run into such old old GNR community members in a looooooong time...

Yeah, being a GNR fan is like an abusive relationship. You keep trying to leave, only to get pulled back in lol. What was your screen name back in the day?

    That's true, yeah!

Unfortunately, I can't tell you my screen name back in the day 'cuz MYGNR forum will go ape on me... ^_^

  11. I don't care.... I just want a new album and that's it.... and I want Axl to do other things aside from music, for ex., writting a book because I think he writes like a pro and I'd love to see that too.

If a reunion ever happens, I hope it is for MAKING A GODDAMN ALBUM, not for just touring. I'm fed up with the touring. New album, new album, new album, bleeeeeeh

  12. Thank you!! I saved it to my list....

Now, to all those who complain about Axl's vocals these days... hello? he doesn't sing pretty good here. Actually, I think its because of this way of singing that he fucked up his pipes!

What was really good to see back in the day about Axl was his presence onstage, his psychotic way of singing, faces, moves.... but not exactly his voice (except in some songs). Best Axl's voice was before 1991, when he was trying to make it big and actually cared about rehearsing and performing like a professional.

  14. I dont know how a reunion could happen after someone called you "cancer" and that they will be dead before talking to you again... LOL

It's ridiculous.... people should never say those things when they are mad because it fucks up everything afterwards when you are calmed.

Anyways, there's a factual fact here that may seem stupid but its not. Year 2012 was the last time SLASH WISHED HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO AXL... remember? Next year and this year was Duff only. That says it all.

Slash is done with Axl. He tried and tried and now have completely gave up on "the redhead". Slash recently said "I know he hates me with his guts".... so knowing all this, why do you still expect a reunion?

I don't know... miracles exist and I think they may call a truce if one of them or both, at some point, some day, probably during some terrible/horrible event going on in their lives, they feel they need to heal their souls before leaving this world. That's the only moment a reconciliation could happen..... but reunion? hmmmmm
