  1. they're talented, sure, but their music is boring, cheesy, overly-complicated, and predictable.

fuck all that "let's write a song using calculus equations" bullshit they fuck with--get over yourselves and make music that's actually enjoyable.

This coming from a guy who loves Mars Volta?

I love Tool and The Mars Volta. I find it abit trickier to listen to Tool though. I HAVE to be in the right mood, if not it gets lost on me. Whereas with The Mars Volta I can pretty much listen to them any time and still be able to get into it.

  2. Seeing live this summer:

10-07 - North Sea Jazz Festival (ft. B.B. King and Duffy)

If you're there for the whole weekend, make sure you see The New Earth Group on the Saturday, they are phenominal. I would go and see them myself, but I don't fancy the 79 euro cost for the day when I don't know any of the other acts. Would love to see B.B King aswell, but I've got to work on the Friday.

I'm hoping to get hold of some Mars Volta tickets in London, but it's going to be hard because it's only 350 capacity.

  3. The man is a genius. I'll get a full review up after a couple more listens (just finished my first), but what a record..

His gig next week in Glasgow has sold out, should I pay like £90 outside the door for a ticket? Worth it?

I've seen Dylan three times and two out of three gigs were bad. He's not much of a performer anymore... :(

imsawm him at the 02 last night, and it was one of the best gigs ive been too, ive gotten used to the revamped songs on youtube and there really growing on me...

    anyone else there last night?

Yeah I was sitting on the left hand side as you look at the stage, had a great view. Thought the best song of the night was The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Caroll, but also loved 'Til I Fell In Love With You. Got to love Bob's moves!

  4. Yeah you can't go wrong with either one of those 4 really. Great starting points.

I'd suggest Highway 61 Revisited for an absolute beginner though.

  5. I absolutely love the alternate versions of Visions Of Johanna by Bob Dylan. The more upbeat/electric ones are amazing.

Also the version of Idiot Wind on The Bootleg Series, Vol. 1-3 at the end of disc 2 makes abit of wee come out when I hear it.

  6. first off: songs can't be annoying; listeners can, however, feel annoyed while listening. same goes for other "emotions".

and that wasn't that bad, really. i was actually tapping my foot to a few parts. reminds me of "nasal retentive calliope music" from frank zappa and the mothers' we're only in it for the money. a lot of people would be more annoyed by just about anything by merzbow. and then there's the omar rodriguez-lopez and jeremy michael ward album--interesting to me, but most people would hate it.

Have you heard Despair by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez? That's some weird shit.

  7. 1. Blonde On Blonde - Bob Dylan

    2. Blood On The Tracks - Bob Dylan

    3. Bringing It All Back Home - Bob Dylan

    4. Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan

    5. Deloused In The Comatorium - The Mars Volta
