  1. **Side note** I got given a tour programme which is great.

Someone is accepting party passes already dry.gif

Glad you had a good time.

    DONT YOU START!!:xmasssanta:

No party passes! Paid £10 of my hard earned money for it - read it, and now passing it along!

Trust me to get the winner who lives in fucking India!!:rofl-lol:

    The show was great!

Thin Zizzy set it up nicely I have to say but the turn around was quick, GNR came on around 10.40pm and I was dead centre 3/4 rows back in the pit - I've seen gigs at most venues around Europe and the Newcastle crowd are about on par with Glasgow/Dublin, it was just fuckin' raw I loved it!

The sound mix was poor though as Axl's vocals just got drowned out most of the night unfortunately - You get that in the pit at times, gets a bit 'bassy' which was a tad frustrating. Axl was on fine form but the star of the night was DJ, this guy is worth the entrance fee alone. From a live perspective (putting aside GNR politics) this guy just lives every fucking moment of every fucking song. Ballad of Death was great aswell.

All the guys were on good form. Loved "Sorry" "KOHD" "PC" and "This I Love" in particular. Frank's drumming was faultless and he really add something special, live.

Got in at around 3am - Great night and can't wait for Manchester. Never drinking Guiness again!! :-(

**Side note** I got given a tour programme which is great. Any forum member (no mods) who wants it, first to PM me your address details I will get it off in the post to you for free

UPDATE: The Archer won it. Well done, it's on its way to you :-)

You musta been just a foot or two in front of me mate, I was in pretty much the same spot. I thought the mix seemed to improve a bit as the night wore on; some songs it was spot on, others it was very muddy and pretty much a wall of sound.

ok, there were three young lads with tops off getting as bit roudy (it was fine with me to be honest but I think some around me were getting a bit pissed off with it) anyway....I was stood right by them. One of them fucking kissed me on the cheek during PC and sreamed in my ear which was alittle odd but, erm.....passionate I guess!?

AND... that girl at the end of PC, man, how big were her boobies, JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEsus christ. Axl's face was a picture!!

I don’t really come on here much anymore but thought I would post after the gig. I was in the pit right next to the guys with their tops off (I was the big guy with a beard and long hair), I don’t mind the crowd going crazy but people need to work together to have the best time were just being inconsiderate. Also, the girl with her jugs out is a stripper, I know because a friend knows her

I have seen Guns a few times now and although it wasn’t the most intense gig, it was a brilliant night had by all. The band seemed in good spirits and although not rammed the crowd were of a better quality than previous shows. The music was faultless if not a little bit quiet. Little bit disappointed when they played patience but I think I had high hopes for a rare or new song, they played estranged though so that was me happy.

Hope the rest of the tour goes well!

  2. Being the crafty veteran of English festivals I thought I could offer a little bit of information regarding English festivals especially Leeds and Reading....

In 2002 GnR played only Leeds as part of Leeds/Reading, this was the first time in the history of the dual events that this has happened. Guns decided to do this because the previous week they had played London and R/L allowed them to do this because it was GnR's big comeback gig. At Leeds Guns went on at about 11.30 15-30 minutes AFTER they were due to finish their set. This was a little due to The Prodigy running over but not enough for it to be entirely their fault. Anyway they play the set, Axl mentions that they are supposed to finish and somehow manages to stay on and complete the set close to 2.00am. The festival organiser Melvin Benn organises with the local city council to extend the music curfew way into the night to allow the band to finish. The festival then later suffers riots (which was in no way related to GnR despite what some people might say) and as a result the whole festival site had to move location.

Fast forward 8 years and Guns are announced to play Reading AND Leeds. Melvin Benn says he is excited but also mentions that Guns cannot go past there curfews (11.30 Reading and 11.00 Leeds) so even if they go on late they come off at the same time regardless. He says this is due to the fact that the city councils could literally shut the festival down and it wouldn’t be seen again.

(In my opinion this is totally possible as although Reading is a British institution its is close enough to London for any wealthy promoter to take over the space and start a new festival that all of the London hipsters would come to).

So GnR come on at 10.30pm one hour before they are due to come off and play to a crowd of 16 year olds away from home for the first time. This is a crowd in which I've heard people say they hadn’t heard of Rage Against The Machine or The Smashing Pumpkins, the same crowd that Kings Of Leon the most popular "rock" band in the world at the time became enraged at for only knowing there 3 biggest hits. Guns manage to play until Midnight, which I’m sure Melvin Benn had predicted and had already worked something out with the council to allow and then..... the plug is pulled and the rest as they say is history.

    Hope this helps.

This is all very true, but are you suggesting that someone else other than Benn pulled the plug?

Well it was most likely his decision in the end but Im pretty sure you get a big fine every minute over curfew you go, so my guess he was forced by the local authorities to make the decision.

  3. Ive already posted this but thought it would be relevant here

Did you find this out on Wikipedia?

  7. sorry if this was in the thread already. With all the Cellphone talk. Some one who is going to the show from this forum should get another forum members number who is on here right now and keep in contact so we get updates! Good idea?

I think the bill payers would have something to say about it, we could all chip in, we should have pooled together and bought 2 3G phones linked upto a webcam or some sort of wireless internet with a webcam we could all watch.

But then again Im here showing my support and shall be seeing the band in a months time, Good things come to those who...........................

  8. This may have been said, But I couldnt be bothered to read through all the replies :P

Waiting around for say over an hour in a public airport he isnt at a private party or exclusive club, Axl should know that people will recognise/approach/take pictures of him in a place like an airport.

Theres no need to go over the top with a rock image but Im pretty sure theres some cool casual clothes he could wear. If he really wanted to prove himself he should have drawn attention to himself in a good way, not bey wearing horrid clothes.

All it takes is one person to get a photo of him and send it to gossip mags and tabloids. Its too early in a comeback for negative publicity.

  9. I see the point being made, Queens Of The Stone Age have Josh Homme the lead singer as the only remaining original member.

However QOTSA never made it as big as Guns and werent in the public eye to the extent GnR were.

Back when guns were big they were the biggest band on the planet, they had a variety of fans even those not normally into rock music.

For 15 years or so the same music videos have been played continuously on music channels, The public's image of Guns is that of a decade gone.

That is why Axl bringing a band back with the Guns N Roses name will not be accepted by a lot of people.

  10. Im guessing that no-one on the forum is the manager of a famous rock band?

How can we comment with so much confidence on something we have no experience of.

Who are we to say if Merck is doing a good job or not?

He may be saying things we dont want to hear but at least he's saying things. He could keep quiet and not reply to our queries at all, then everyone would be bitcing about that.

  11. Not sure where to post this but I suppose it can be applied to more than the announced dates.

Do you think the band will change the set list of songs to fit in and please the crowd for a specific gig?

Fans at the download festival are used to and are probably expecting some heavy metal and rock music, songs like November rain and new songs like T.W.A.T may not be as well received by the download crowd as they won,t be as fitting with the rest of the festival.

Rio has a far wider audience and I think any song would be well received, maybe they will change the set list from Rio to a more hardcore rock oriented selection of songs for Download.

The Dublin gig may have a changed set list again as since it's a GNR only gig its going to be populated by fans that will take any music given to them!

    Your thoughts?

  12. Got my ticket last week, and although I dont know many of the bands that have been announced, Guns and Metallica confirmed and Motley Crue and Alice in Chains rumoured is enough to make me go. Think theres about 18 of us within a span of friends going so we will probably be hiring a bus.

Although the beer is expensive at festivals (£3 a pint) If you get 10 pints youl be on your way to drunk and spent less money than on a night out due to no entrance fee's gambling machines and silly shots etc. So its not that bad
