  1. I'm not a big "Axl's voice" guy, but I'd break NITL down like this:

    • 2016 Vegas - Well rested and prepared, but still with limitations
    • Summer 2016 NA - Peaking, a lot more good than bad
    • Euro-Leg - Wearing down, self-preservation (little rasp)
    • 2017 NA - Worn down, laboring, but going for it (more rasp)

I do think his voice is shot right now, but he's fighting through it and trying to put on a good show.  You can tell he's really digging deep to conjure up some rasp in a lot of these songs.  For everyone who says the man "isn't trying", it seems obvious that the effort is there but his voice is failing him.

After a mega-tour like this, I'm not surprised.  I'm sure he'd typically go away for a few years afterward and try to recover.  Unfortunately, the man is 55 years old.  First of all, can he even recover with rest?  And second, is it realistic to expect that he (or the whole band for that matter) could put on a real Guns show while pushing 60?  It's already borderline.  I've been hoping for a new album like most everyone else, but it feels like the end of the road - a triumphant return and then riding it out as far as Axl can physically push his voice.  Whatever happens, it's been a hell of a ride!

  2. I'll just leave this Adler quote from Loudwire right here, from May 9, 2017.

“That was so amazing,” exclaimed the rocker about returning to his spot behind the kit for the band. “It was literally a second dream come true. I wish I could’ve done more songs, but I’m thankful I got to do what I got to do. And if they ever give me a call and want me to come back, I’d love to play with them. I love those guys.”

It would be way easier to get on the Steven Train if his message was even remotely consistent.  He might be doing "well" now, but imagine how his emotional swings and drama could disrupt the smoothly running machine that is the Not in This Lifetime Tour.  (Yes, I realize how ridiculous that statement sounds when discussing a band featuring Axl Rose.)

I think Steven played his cards wrong.  His mothers book was the wrong book at the wrong time and whoever advised him to do press for it didn't have his best interests in mind and maybe had a financial interest in the book.  His interviews were lame, he should've kept his mouth shut, I can't imagine the singer and his enablers at Team Yes were excited that steven was already off the rails having been back in the circle for five seconds.

Adler would Chinese Democracy in it's entirety while wearing a chicken suit if that's what he had to do to get in stage. He complained about not playing enough songs expecting them to call him and offer him more songs, instead they offered him no songs.

Accurate.  That being said, they should have let him play more songs.

clearly slash and duff are sellouts and only care about money and posting pictures on social media, its best Steven stays away, he needs real people and real friends at this point in his life.  not lord axl and what remains of the band he did his best to destroy.

Steven was there when it was honest and when it all mattered.  afd and the songs Steven demoed for UYI are the core of gnr.  axl must hate that, and slash and duff must just not care, they're too busy counting the extra money they got after selling out izzy stradlin.

My wife and I once went back to the restaurant in Chicago where we went on our first date (on our anniversary).  It wasn't the same and we weren't there for the same reasons, but it was great to relive it in some way.  We were able to enjoy the experience with a difference perspective and appreciate how much we experienced together since that day.

I get what you're saying, and everything would be better and more genuine if Izzy and Steven were involved.  The "reunion" is obviously part money grab, and it's certainly not the same GNR that was clawing their way to rock stardom (it can't be in 2017).  However, I really do feel like Axl, Slash, and Duff enjoy reliving the Illusions tour while sober and/or more mentally stable - without all the turmoil.  I don't believe they could keep it going for so long if they didn't.

  5. I was close enough to see sweat dripping off Axl's arm hair in Chicago and I didn't even notice Melissa once.  When I got home, I watched a video I took on my phone and could see her for a few seconds.  I thought to myself "wow, Melissa in GNR is kinda stupid".  That's precisely how much Melissa is ruining the reunion for me.

It was much more noticeable that Izzy and Steven were NOT on stage.

thats apparently all true, good for him

it is just a shame that apparently axl (and slash and duff) also showed the "i-cant-never-get-enough" side too -- which prevented us from having guns n roses back

And Izzy.  If Izzy didn't demand his "share of the loot", we would have seen the real Guns N Roses by now.  Steven is the ONLY original member who has proven it's not about the money.  If he feels taken advantage of or disrespected by the other band members, it hasn't stopped him from enjoying the hell out of his guest spots with the band he's been dying to play with again for decades.  And you know what, I can respect that.  You never know when the window of opportunity is going to be slammed shut forever.

But Robin & Buckethead also took There Was A Time and Better into the stratosphere. There would be no 'OMG Slash's This I Love solo' without Robin having done first.

Great point, and I respect their contributions to those songs.  However, I'd still rather have Slash representing the work of others on 3-4 Chinese songs than vice versa.  And frankly, I'm just happy these guys got back together to do this while they can still play.  This tour is like a redo of the Illusion Tour without peak Axl drama and Slash and Duff slowly killing themselves.  I genuinely hope they are enjoying it because it sounds like none of them did the last time around.

  8. For me, it's not about which musicians I like the best when it comes to judging the lineup.  It's about having the people there who created the music and the magic.  Many fine musicians have played with GNR, but nothing they created (music, live performances, image, etc.) has come close to matching what the original band accomplished, in my opinion.  (EDIT: Some of my favorite Guns songs came from the Illusion albums.)

I still loved Illusion era GNR, and it felt like a new version of the same band which was expanding its limits musically.  I liked the many iterations of Chinese Democracy era GNR, but they were a totally different band.  With Slash and Duff back in the fold, it feels like Guns again so I have to agree with Fortus - this is a way better Guns N Roses lineup.

Oh, for the record, Slash is my favorite GNR lead guitarist, in the context of the band or otherwise.  Not even close.

what tix did people get last min for better $$? I ask b/c I'd be only interested in pit/up close and I don't know if you'd manage to get these spots last min for AT COST?? OR CHEAPER than at cost??

For the 2nd night in Chicago, they dropped prices through most of the stadium and had additional discounts through various promotions.  They also converted a bunch of unsold VIP floor seats to regular tickets, so I got row 7 on the center aisle for $250 each.  However, I don't believe they ever dropped the price of pit tix or the front floor sections below $250.

In the end, they closed the upper deck on one side of the stadium and removed some seats on the floor, but otherwise the place was packed.  As others have said, it's WAY too early to worry about ticket sales.

You don't have to be a trump supporter to find this to be a very crude and immature gesture from a bunch of 50 year olds.

I hear ya.  However...this band has historically been crude and immature, whether it be the content of their music, merchandise, album artwork, their decades-long feuds, and even their choice of attire on this current tour.  I feel like permission for Axl and crew to act immaturely and offend people has been grandfathered in from a different era.  It's almost endearing the way these old dudes drop F-bombs and run around on stage wearing shirts that say things like "SHOW SOME CLASS" over a butt.  NEVER GROW UP, GUNS!!!

They won the Mexican people, and lost fans of Donald's voters. Negative or positive balance?

I doubt they lost too many fans.  Axl sings "Turn around B***h I got a use for you" in front of tens of thousands of women at every show.  I think most fans hold their rock stars to a fairly low standard of behavior/PCness.
