  1. I wouldn't be too worried - he still relies on the Derrig in the studio and don't see that ever changing.  Like said above, Slash is going to sound like Slash no matter what he is playing through, especially with his Derrig plugged into a JCM 800 or Silver Jub.  From an equipment standpoint [particularly amps/ effects] there is so much more out there than 30 years ago so its natural that any musician is expanding/ experimenting with their tone palette.  Wonder if he had the Magnatone in his rig on this last tour run?  I saw them in Houston and his tone was spectacular [Richard's as well].  I think his tone sounded better on this tour than it has since he got back with GNR.

Even if they release and play a new single during the US run, it’s still a weird practice. I know it’s their homeland, but why would you disrespect your European fans like this? (I’ve even heard European crowds are more enthusiastic than the North American ones, which are supposedly less forgiving, colder etc. Don’t quote me, I’ve just heard it, may be nonsense.) Why would you flip off the rest of the world like this? Why not release a new single before the actual goddamn tour even starts? Or better yet, release one song before each leg! We know there’s more than one ready to go, ffs...

I don't think they are necessarily disrespecting or flipping off the European fans...from what i can tell, the European shows ticket sales have looked pretty strong and the NA leg looks like a disaster right now.. assume they are saving any new material to prop up the NA leg and the lagging sales.

BST hyde park is just about the worst place to watch a concert. Extremely high drink prices, sun shining directly on to the stage in a way that makes it impossible to see the screens clearly (but luckily today is cloudy), very strict 22:30 curfew (so the whole show is before when it is fully dark)..

GN'R was really bad with their timing in the last two London shows. So people are mad at them. They were never going to sell out a place as big as hyde park. They poured all the money into instagram advertising etc but nothing worked. They created artificial scarcity and tried to drip-feed tickets into the system and that didn't work either. I bought my ticket for £38 but today there will be tickets going all the way down to £10-15 i'm sure. Only reason I'm going is because 1) they say the band is on fire and axl made a huge effort in glastonbury - there is a desire to change and get better and I can only respect that as a long time die hard fan, 2) i live very close to hyde park so it feels like it would be inappropriate for me not to go (as if axl is going to scold me for not coming :D :D)

Golden Circle tickets are also around £110 and below face value right now.

I blame fernando for all this. Worst manager ever. And their background screen animations are far too old-school and cheap looking as well. I can't believe they still let that happen..

Typically the band or their management is not responsible for the ticket pricing -- the band usually gets paid a prenegotiated flat fee for the show and the promoter can use whatever shady methods they choose, dynamic pricing, drip-feeding crappy seats, etc. to maximize their profit.

    Two notes:

I hear a lot of people giving the TV audio guy a hard time, but I think most of the issue is Axl, rather than the mixer. Axl doesn’t sing loudly when he’s in his Mickey falsetto. The volume coming from him is probably half of what it is when he’s singing in his chest voice or when he’s hitting the high notes.

So he’s basically depending on the mixer to adjust for him when he’s in his midrange, which is extraordinarily weak. It’s hard to expect a TV audio engineer to go “oh right, let’s down the vocals up for the second half of this verse, etc.” Axl’s all over the place, vocally.

Slash was the absolute MVP of the show. He really put on a tour de force, was playing great, and is rightly getting his credit online.

But I’m still shocked at how little gain he uses live with Guns these days. Either that or his volume knob is rolled off a bit much for my liking. C’mon Slash, just a bit more gain will make those notes sing a bit more!

I think you're spot on - he's rolled off the volume knob overall in both GNR and SMKC for the last several years.

There's something different in Slash's guitar tone. Don't know if it's coming from the pedalboard or it's something in the mix.

At first, i thought it was something related to the recording device used in the video, but i've watched videos from others sources (and other shows) and i have the same feeling that something is different from previous tours.

I’ve felt like his tone has ‘evolved’.. sounds like the volume knob was up higher in the 90’s and is probably 5-6 now. His guitar doesn’t drive through the mix the way it did in the 90’s.

The tone obviously sounds pretty compressed over streams/ cell recordings as well which doesn’t help.

What does Slash have clipped to the head of his guitar?

Looks like a capo but there might something else on there.

Slash is crazy good on an acoustic but this mix is pretty subpar, couldn’t really hear Duff’s bass in the mix either (not surprising as the sonics on most of the Selects have been weak).

  7. I think Axl has determined which songs and generally in which order are best for his voice to make it through the set, the tour, etc.

I’m not a fan of the 10+ min Rocket Queen, KOHD, etc but they provide a good vocal break.

That said, there are several songs that could be swapped for better variety that would have no affect on the core songs for the casual fans and still not further tax Axl. (Bad Obsession, You Ain’t the First, The Garden, So Fine, Pretty Tied Up). Bring back Madagascar, Dead Horse and Locomotive and a deep track like Breakdown.

If I was to consider a Nightrain membership to get early access to tickets I wouldn't do it without knowing if there is a show near me and if I can attend on the date.

Not to mention providing access to great seats for Nightrain members— in 2016 I was a member and pit tix were not available for several shows.

  9. Sounds so much more dynamic - someone said earlier, there is a lot more 'space' in the track, which i agree with.   Kudos to Axl and the band, this is awesome.

I'll need to get used to the layering of the vocals being more present in the mix during the outro but overall this is incredible.  I didn't think there was any way to improve on perfect, but they've done it.  The new mix has much more depth.  Well done!
