I had to wipe tears of laughter away. A father figure.

... though now I think about it... dad (Axl) has the keys to the car (the band) that they really, really want to take for a spin. They've got to follow dad's rules or he won't let them ride in the car. Either someone forgot to ask Izzy if he wanted to ride in the car with them or he is not as excited about it and doesn't think the ride will be fun enough to make up for the chores he'd have to do to get the ride.

I'm glad you thought about it. Who makes the rules? Thats right Daddy.

Yeah, if anything Axl was the baby in that band (despite Slash being the youngest technically).

Axl is the guy that Alan Niven literally had to hire babysitters for, the guy that was endlessly babied by his former personal assistants and band mates. And the guy who still calls his current personal assistant mommy.

I'd recommend reading books like Craig Duswalt's (according to the womens' thread there's some stuff about Axl acting and being treated like a spoilt toddler in there), the band members' biographies or just listening to anyone who knew Axl back then, if you really want to get an idea if what he was like.

Maybe father figure was a bit much, but with everything I have read and watched about the band he was "daddy." The direction the band took, the extravagant videos, etc. All because of Axl.

I believe they looked up to him be it because of talent, charisma, whatever. I also believe, sort of to your point, they feared pissing him off. I mean seriously, who would you or most people say was the leader of Gn'R? I guess to appease a few I'll say Axl was head baby.

It is obvious Adler is being fed titbits to keep him silent, a very minimum of titbits it has to be said. It is a bit like feeding a shark the occasional bacon rasher hoping that he doesn't bite your hand off. Still, at least it sounds excellent and it is good to see - he seems to be enjoying himself.

What an odd scenario? GN'R's real drummer guesting on two songs. I rather understand why they are refusing interviews as there is such a lack logic about many aspects of this hybrid, a lack of logic obviously borne out of Axl's eccentricities which the other two have been forced to buy into. Better to just not say anything.

I don't know if they have been forced into anything. I've always thought the guys looked up to Axl, kinda like "daddy", except Izzy. Or it could all be based on fear. haha

i would like to know what went on in their heads in that pic of slash and steven. they look like the last of their platoon, returning from an unimaginable battlefield

lol. Yeah somebody that can work with pictures ought to replace the guitar in Slash's hand with a rifle and make jungle the background.

  5. I was there last night and what a great show! I'm with the people that say social media feeds don't do Axl's voice justice. Axl was on point as was everybody else. Slash and Duff were perfection from start to finish. I'm in awe of Slash. I don't see how he can keep that up for 3 hrs. Never a break. I was also impressed with the rest of the band. Melissa's backing vocals come to mind as they were really good. Frank's drumming is very much in time now imo. NRG stadium was packed last night, had to be a sellout, and I'm really proud of my fellow houstonians ( and anyone there from somewhere else). We really brought it last night too! It was loud as fu@k! I like to think the crowd energy was why Axl sounded even better than usual.

I'll also add that Better was incredible and, in my opinion, it's been one of the worst songs for Axl so far on this tour.  This I Love was pretty much vocal perfection.  The ending of Coma looked like it was a breeze.  What the hell got into him last night?

Well, Charles Barkley once said Houston has the best strip clubs. Maybe Axl had visited one or two and was REALLY in a good mood.

Axl's voice is amazing in this show.

Even weak songs like YCBM or Better had a great improvement.

Probably the best versions of Coma, Don't Cry and Rocket Queen are from this show also.

I was there and I agree. Maybe it's all the humidity down here, it lubricates the vocal cords. lol

As a 15 year Texan season ticket holder, I would be pleasantly surprised if the roof is open.

Hey Ktex, I recognize that name from a Texans forum and if I remember right you are in the know on all things Texans. Do you know if any of the players are going to the concert?

    Hence, buzzkill

Honest truth? Probably 50,000 of the 55,000 (or whatever the numbers were last night) were there because Slash and Duff were back with Axl. They wanted to have a few beers and listen to Slash wail on some classic GnR the way it was meant to be wailed on. They simply do not give a flying fuck about Chi Dem songs. The intense surge of energy at the start of the show (and for the other recognizable tunes) dissipated for Chi Dem songs.

I gotta say though, I saw a lot of people sit down, start texting, go for a pee break etc. during Coma, so.... yeah.
I'd say a good chunk of the people were there for Slash, Axl and Duff on the popular songs they recall from back in the day.

How someone could sit down or lose interest during Coma is beyond me.
