The General sounds a bit like Portishead, especially Dummy.

If you've never heard them, here's one of the songs from the album:

If you like it, download/stream the rest.

Before commenting I wanted to scroll through them to see if anyone else had mentioned Portishead. The General sounds exactly as Portishead. Especially the vocal melody and how Axl sings the song. Despite the similarities, I LOVE the General! Just hoping the sound quality and the mix will be better than on the leak.

And yet we could argue about that. But we won't, because it's not the point.

Yeah. Well, the same absurdness if said thing only exists because somebody ordered, paid for it and granted the right for it exist.

Nothing absurd about copyright. I've done hundreds of mural commissions over 30 years for the biggest companies on this planet and without the ownership of copyright I would have been constantly f****d in the a** here in NYC. Nothing wrong with Kat wanting to protect her work. I've read the entire lawsuit and there's 145 cases of copyright infringement. GNR unfortunately has a bad track record when it comes to hiring photographers and other media companies over the years. Several cases of both companies and individuals over the years saying they didn't get paid.

I'm glad Kat is standing up for her work. If she's not standing up for her own work, who will? Go Kat!

  3. Ownership and copyright are two different things. Yes a client usually owns the work which means he or she is allowed to use it within whatever agreement there is, but an artist still owns the copyright to protect his work so it's not being used commercially for other purposes, which is usually reduplicating and sold. NEVER EVER under any circumstances should you EVER sign away the copyright. That's like ART 101 rule number one us artists usually learn the hard way.

Yeah the sound guy was doing the same thing at my show in Phoenix too. It's fine to turn the guitars up a little at certain spots but not that much.

That sucks. The volume changes were too dramatic when I saw the Stones in 2019 too. I guess it's too easy too move the sliders too much, but they should know. I mean, it's their job.

I need to add something else here.  I don’t know why the overall mix of the show was the way it was.  Every time there was a guitar lead the guitars got cranked.  I had extremely good seats. 7 rows behind the pit and dead center.  The weird volume cranks for guitar leads were a bit annoying.  I will say and I’ve praised him before.  I’m a slash diehard since it’s why I started playing guitar as a 12 year old in 93/94, but Jesus Christ Fortus is so damn good.

Sounds like they started with dynamic mixing like the Stones for example. Dynamic means that the sound guy is moving the volume sliders etc. during the songs.

I don't think the lyrics are about a single subject. It's likely they were combed together from different ideas and things Axl was writing about at the time, which were loosely connected thematically. Axl has written like that before. For example, in the (underrated and misunderstood) lyrics of Right Next Door To Hell, the first verse is Axl reflecting on what happened with Steven, the second verse is reflecting on his childhood and how fame affected his old relationships, the third verse about the band's rise to fame and the chorus about his neighbour.

There are some common things in Perhaps and other songs, for example that the narrator can't or wouldn't want to be like a certain "you" (The Blues/Street of Dreams) or someone carrying weight upon their shoulders (Atlas Shrugged). So there probably are two or three different themes in the verse and another theme on the chorus that are somehow connected with each other. There are certainly some very interesting lines, especially the ones where the narrator appears apologetic. I could attempt a line by line interpretation, but I'd feel a bit ridiculous analyzing the lyrics to Perhaps like it was Shakespeare - maybe another time

Thank you so much for the insightful info, would never have expected that from a song like "Right Next Door To Hell" which on the surface appears as a simple punk/rock song. Thought I love contrasts like that and when there's much more into it if you're willing to dig in.

It's a similar thing for me with the Doors which is my all-time favorite band. Still after over 30 years of listening there's things lyric wise that I'm finally starting to understand after ao many years.

What I love about Axl is that Jim Morrison is also one of his biggest idols but he has never copied  him but clearly understood Morrison on a deeper level that took much more time for most of us others to understand. Looking forward to spend more time focusing on some of Axl's lyrics especially on songs that may not be my favorites music wise :)

I agree, would be cool for a vax only show for those of us who are fully vaxxed, but I doubt GNR would do that.

With possible even worse mutations than Delta I'm pretty sure we'll get to the point where there's no other options. There are bands who do cancel or postpone because they're worried also about the audience and not only themselves and the crew.

And this is exactly why this whole "it's a personal choice" gibberish is just fucking bullshit. Sorry you have to miss the show cause of unvaccinated idiots.

Thanks,no one in our family here in NYC have had Covid and we continue to do our part as long as we have to ✌️

Shit you have to miss the concert, but it's only a concert. If you don't feel safe, it's 100 per cent the right thing to do. I'm pretty much the same as you - I'm not going to concerts at the moment because of the rising rates, lack of safety measures and general stupidity/selfishness of the public in my country. Pisses me off too, but there we go. We live in pretty moronic times.

There will doubtless be other opportunities to see the band (probably do exactly the same set!) so don't even think twice. Good luck with the baby!

    Thank you, much appreciated!

[Not to derail this thread but...]

Sorry to hear that, but to blame GnR for public health concerns? What about the millions of vaccinated people who are looking for a mental health escape after nearly 2 years o this shite and have done their bit? Sure they could limit crowds to only vax'd (not sure how that works in the US, i'm in the UK), but it's the unvaccinated and uneducated that are to blame if anyone, not a band just tryna put on a tour.

Both me and my wife are fully vaccinated. My wife is 6 months pregnant and since either GNR, Ticketmadter or the venue have any Covid safety requirements, we have no other option.

I'm not blaming GNR, what I said is I wish GNR would do more in their end. At the end of the day we're in this together. As it is now us vaccinated has to stay at home because we can't hang out with unvaccinated people.

  10. Nice to see an artist doing the right thing. As he says we're all in this together and there's crew members who need to support their families etc. but if there's one thing we've learned, it's that nothing is more important than health. There's still so much we don't know about the virus and it's long term side effects on the heart, lungs and the brain.

Fred Durst: Even if the performers, crews, staff, and promoters do their best to ensure safety on and behind the stage, that doesn't ensure the safety of the audience as a whole. We are all in this together, and we all — individually and as a whole — have to make our best efforts to be as responsible and proactive as possible moving forward to combat and stop spreading COVID."

In Germany you can't attend an event without either being vaccinated, tested or if you recovered from a corona infection. Don't get why the US let's everybody in.

I'm very surprised too that there's nothing. I'm fully vaccinated and it was going to be my first concert since the pandemic began and I've never visited Atlantic City before, but things changed drastically and quickly for the worse.

  12. I have tickets to Atlantic City for me and my wife. Things were still looking good and going in the right direction when I bought them couple of weeks ago.

I don't even consider going right now. We should avoid crowded indoor spaces until it's safe and I don't see that happening anytime soon.
