  1. I showed my dad The General and the first thing he said was “It sounds like it’s from CD”. He likes that album and so do I, but even as a casual fan he could tell it was made during that time and he was actually more surprised that Slash was on it. He didn’t really care about this song though. He had a much more positive reaction to Monsters and I think they should just have relapse monsters instead.

Only the hardcore fans built up The General to sound like something epic before it came out. With the hype people here had given you’d expect a Octavarium level epic, and I will admit I was a bit disappointed because of that. But putting the hype and expectations aside, it’s still a pretty mediocre song. People obviously have complained about the production issues and the vocal effects, but the repetitiveness and lack of any real hooks are really disappointing. The thing everyone praises is the Slash solo at the end, but you can barely hear it over Axl doing some nothing vocals that were probably recorded two decades ago.

Portnoy seems like the type of guy that's happier the more projects he has going on - I don't think him being back in DT makes it a dealbreaker for any of his side projects to coexist. It's not like Dream Theater is a band that tours nonstop either.

I'm by no means a big Dream Theater band, but Portnoy was the heart of that band for me. I lost all interest in them once he left. Glad to see he's back.

I don’t think him being back in DT will stop most of the projects. Sons of Apollo were kinda his creative output for DT type stuff though and bumblefoot also said it was likely they wouldn’t do anything again. But Winery Dogs are on tour and Metal Allegience has a 3rd album planned. I think SOA is the only one that will stop, which is fine since he is back in the band people want. Kinda like there being no point in VR now that Slash and Duff are back in GNR

  3. I think if you have a minute intro and 30 second outro for atmosphere, it shouldn’t take up 25% of the runtime. If the song was much longer (which I would love as I love all the parts of CD) then the atmosphere building could be more justified. Or they could have left all the atmosphere stuff as a intro song to the album and then CD can be played entirely separately

Axl is looking to be in great shape, compared to like 2017 he has slimmed way down - good for him!

I agree that he looks better, but the black vest not being able to cover his stomach is not the right look. He looked fantastic other than that one outfit, even my dad that I went with pointed out the same thing

This was the best Boston show since the Foxboro shows..

I was surprised how into it the crowd was even with all the weather. It seemed to me like it was even more so than the Foxboro show, but that may have been because I was in front of the stage this time instead of in the stands
