if ANYONE was to ever stand up to axl that'd be the fucking day.  he's too fragile a child to handle someone not saying yes.  hence the lost years and lost potential of our favorite band to yes employees, yes musicians, yes lawyers and yes CD fans.

slash and duff will remain silent and obedient and they will play axl solo songs to keep axl from feeling like he blew the whole thing.

i would love to see them call axl to action and steer him away from a fake ac/dc record and tour.  but axl will do whatever he wants because like always, no one will be there to say no, because I promise, wherever axl is in the world right now he's surrounded by paid employees who are saying: YES.

    Chinese wasn't terrible

  2. What are your favorite Axl song intros? I personally love the Welcome to the Jungle story and Double Talkin' Jive rant from the St. Louis show. His little Out Ta Get dedication from the Ritz '88 show was pretty bitchin' too. What else you guys got?

Interestingly enough you've included more UYI II songs than UYI I contrary to your statement that I isn't as good as II.

Only by one song and that's because I put KOHD even tho I don't even like the UYI version with Sorum. I chose that because I'm sure people would rather see that than You Ain't the First which I perfer to it. As a whole I like Illusion I more but there's some badass shit on UYI II

  4. I personally like Izzy's tone on more than Slash's, it's so much more electrifying and charismatic, a prime example is his isolated Jungle track. He's the reason why the '92 and '93 shows were so hit or miss. In the 80's with Steven a bad GnR show was like finding a shit that tasted good. Then when '91 with Sorum rolled around it didn't have the energy that they had with Steven but it was still damn good. Then Izzy left and what we were left just hurt. I can't even watch the Tokyo show because it is just pitiful, I had no problem sitting through 2 hours of the Indiana show but I can barely survive 5 minutes without getting bored and finding something else to do. Though there are FEW exceptions like Paris '92 and Coma in Chicago of that year was fucking killer. He wrote the base for most of GnR's songs so how could he be a bad player when his instrument/part is the ground work?

Source everything 1980s from the 1980s if you can. Those songs sounded so much better with Adler and Stradlin.

The main reason for not doing that was Paris 92 show (It's So Easy and SCOM) is the shit even tho I'm not a huge fan of that year for them, not only the story leading up to Jungle in St. Louis fantastic but Axl sounds like if you got near him he'd rip your fuckin' head off, and for Paradise City even if they didn't have the best shows overall in 93 Axl's voice was fantastic and is one of the few decent points on the Spaghetti album.

no, Live Era is perfect because i heard it  so many times.. more than Chinse Democracy, GN'R Lies or the Spaghetti Incedent.

It works perfect as a remix album and a closing chaptor for the Slash Era.

It has many highlights: Nightrain, WTTJ, You Could Be Mine, November Rain, Rocket Queen, Estranged (!!!). For me it's nothin' wrong to re-record vocals or guitar parts

And would like to see a Not In This Lifetime Collection with re-records vocals. No Problem with that

Live Era's version of Jungle a highlight? Are we talking about the same disc? Also Rocket Queen is terrible I don't understand how people like that version so much there isn't a rhythm track for fuck sake, how can you have such a groovy song like RQ and not have the fucking rhythm guitar?!?!

I always assumed DTJ was omitted due to having been maliciously dedicated to Izzy after he left the band during the UYI tour. But yeah, it is one of the best songs live. Slash is a beast!

There were plenty of shows with Axl pissed off at other people other than Izzy ;)

I always wondered why they didnt include Civil War and Live and Let Die on the album and to a lesser extend Double Talkin Jive, they were all such staples on that tour!

I'm assuming L&LD was omitted due to legal troubles and the fact that it was already on the single so there was no point bending over backwards for it.

Similar to the 2004 greatest hits the Use Your Illusion compilation tracklist is complete bullshit. With that and how alot of people like to say that UYI II is better than the fist because of UYI I's "filler" (which I think is insane) I figured why not leave it to the actual fans to make out what they think is the better batch of the Illusion songs. Here's my list, share your opinion and tracklist. I chose the number of 15 based off the happy medium of Illusion 1 & 2's 16 and 14 respective song count.

    1.Civil War

    2. Dust N’ Bones

    3. Live and Let Die

    4.Don’t Cry

    5.14 Years

    6. Get in the Ring

    7. Bad Obsession

    8. Double Talkin’ Jive

    9. So Fine

    10. Knockin' on Heaven's Door

    11. Pretty Tied Up

    12. Dead Horse

    13. Garden of Eden

    14. You Could Be Mine

    15. Estranged

this album is a treasure trove of greasy, sleazy power chords. new rose, i dont care about you, attitude, down on the farm.... i could go on. call me crazy, but it has some of the catalogue's best power chord sequences, hands down.

just hearing Slash teasing the chords of IDCAY in concert, it's like a dog whistle that reaches far into the hardcore fanbase

best Axl vocals in the catalogue, and it has that balls to the wall attitude back that was beginning to fade by that point.

ok, its all covers, then what? i don't care about you, fuck you! ;)

incidently, i can see why they chose that song. that lyric has to be THE best line in rock & roll EVER, right? i couldnt tell you how many times i played that song loud in my car everytime i crossed paths with some kind of douchebag (boss, that includes you - fuck you!!)

in fact, just talking about this album has me hyped again. guess i'll give it a fresh spin!

I'm glad you can enjoy it that much. Not my cup of tea sadly

Disagree with Civil War. That Farm Aid performance was terrible, whereas Paris '92 was beyond incredible.

Also, I'd go with Jungle from the VMA '88 performance. St. Louis version is viscous but Axl fucks up the third verse and Slash is awful.

Also, Sweet Child should definitely be taken from the Ritz '88. That's the best performance of all time of that song imo. (Of the versions I've seen anyway.)

Also the performance of Don't Cry from Tokyo '92 is too legendary to replace.

I agree Paris '92 kicked ass but I fucking hate the Tokyo show and I absolutely love the Felt Forum version of Don't Cry and it has Steven.

man would you share a bit of whatever it is that you are taking? i really feel like I wanna cut and past album covers on photoshop too :rofl-lol:

?? Like I said above I like the story behind the album and the title just not the contents and I liked the cover more than the Live Era cover so fuck it ya know ?

The sound of the album is pretty good. Probably their best in that regard.

I see it as more than a punk cover album. 50s doo-wop to punk to soundgarden to Beatles to Manson, it has it all. It introduced me to a ton of music I probably never would have heard if not.

I always loved the drumming on it. Matt's loose as a goose.  I wonder what uyi would sound like with that production?

I think they mean The Skyliners and yeah that's one of the few songs I think is OK on the album but still not worth being on my phone :shrugs:

  11. Obviously Guns' best album, right? Fuck this album, it had so much potential. It feels like they decided to extend it from an EP (hey puns) to a full length album in order to be like "Hey where's still dangerous and badass" and to me it just doesn't sound right. They don't have the "attitude" they should on a punk album, for fuck sake Duff was the most punk out of the five original guys so what's the issue? The same issue everyone had with Chinese (Even tho the title track, Shackler's Revenge and If The World are all fucking amazing). It's not the original line up, to me Sorum just sounds like he's trying to replicate Steven and doesn't succeed, he worked on Illusion but not here. Then Gilby is the key element here that I think makes this album fail. I think if Izzy and Slash had the interplay and intertwining guitar sound they had on Appetite this album would have been the shit but instead it's the forgotten GnR album. When I listen to it all I hear is lost potential to what could of been a great album. The thing I like most about this album is the fucking title because its a cool little nod to Steven Adler. I literally photoshopped the Live Era and Spaghetti cover into each other and use it as Live Era's cover because I find Live Era's cover boring for what it is.tumblr_osakmp9LRd1tka76bo1_1280.png

Change KOHD for Marquee 87, Paradise City for Wembley 92 (Freddie's tribute), Nightrain for Argentina 93, Estranged for Milton Keynes 93 and Used To Love Her for Late Show 88.

I used to have the Marquee KOHD performance on my phone and replaced it with Ritz so I gotta disagree there, my main problem with Live Era's Paradise City is the backup singers so again I disagree, I prefer the ferocity on the Marquee version of Nightrain more and the Argentina show sounds a little too similar to the studio version personally. They didn't play Estranged at the Milton Keynes so I guess that one speaks for itself and the Live Era version of Used to Love Her has  a more electric feel to it so yeah sorry.

  13. So I compiled what I would of been more than satisfied with for a true Live Era album give me your thoughts.

    Nightrain - Marquee ‘87

    Brownstone - Ritz ‘88

    It’s So Easy - Correct (Paris ‘92)

    Jungle - St. Louis ‘91

    Dust N’ Bones - Correct (Ritz ‘91)

    My Michelle - Wembley ‘91

    You’re Crazy - Correct (Tokyo ‘88)

Used to Love Her - Correct Location (Tokyo ‘88)

    Patience - Melbourne ‘88

    It’s Alright - Correct (Houston ‘92)

    November Rain - Paris ‘92

    Coma - Chicago ‘92

Out Ta Get Me - Correct (London ‘87)

Pretty Tied Up - Rock in Rio ‘91

Yesterdays - Correct (Las Vegas ‘92)

Move to the City - Felt Forum ‘88

You Could Be Mine - St. Petersburg ‘91

    Rocket Queen - Melbourne ‘88

Sweet Child O’ Mine - Right Location (Paris ‘92)

    Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door - Ritz ‘88

    Don’t Cry - Felt Forum ‘88

    Estranged - Cologne, Germany ‘93

Paradise City - Milton Keynes ‘93

And then I thought it would be interesting if there was say a bonus disc/deluxe edition or maybe other bonus discs at certain retailers or something like that with these songs.

Live and Let Die - Wembley ‘91

Double Talkin’ Jive - St. Louis ‘91

    You Ain’t the First - Ritz ‘91

Civil War - Farm Aid ‘90

    Locomotive - Shoreline Amphitheatre '91

Down on the Farm - Farm Aid ‘90

  14. "The Spaghetti Incident?"  (I've bought Live Era twice and refuse to touch that album) but honestly I'd like to see a better version of Think About You if Izzy were to join them and 14 Years if both him and Steven were back. The only thing I'm interested in hearing a new version of is the Illusion albums with Steven and everything after if they both joined.
