  1. There was a time Axl was one of the most interesting musicians for me. He was surrounded by people like Buckethead, Finck, Brain, Beaven, etc. I thought he had it all to make hundreds of great modern rock songs.

Watching him become an 80s rock singer parody (or an older and heavier parody of himself) is certainly a big frustration to young Edson here. ACDC, Van Halen... Geez.

Now I know he's just a cheesy rock singer playing for money. But for a long period back then, I believed in Axl's lol vision. I wanted that Axl's solo industrial/experimental album badly.

Let's be honest, Axl's voice just sounds awful and it doesn't get better as the tour goes on. It constantly awful from the first to the last show. We all just keep telling ourselves it's getting better.

I've realised that as I started getting more in to Meat Loaf lately. He lost his voice around 2010, even if he hasn't been great the years before either he was still good and the voice was there. When I started listening to his music and live performances and I first watched his "Guilty Pleasure" DVD from 2011, I thought it was awful. And it actually is. It just grew on me to that point now where I think "Oh it's actually quite good!". It just isn't and I know that. But I can watch and listen now without thinking "That's shit" and actually believing that it's good.

And before I got into Meat Loaf I thought the same about Axl. I thought "Oh that's actually a great vocal performance!". But when I watched a GNR live performance for the first time in a month I thought "It's honestly awful". I just got so used to his voice before that I actually believed myself when I thought it was good.

SOYL is decent. Not great, but decent. The rest (apart from songs like The Seeker, DTJ etc) is just utterly bad and we can keep telling ourselves that he gets better etc, deep inside we all know it's just not good.

Couldn't agree more. This whole "Axl gets better as the tour goes on" is one of the greatest lies Axl fans tell themselves. He is constantly bad. From day 1 to last day. There are some songs here and there and some concerts here and there that he probably feels good enough to try some rasp. But that's it. There's no coherent line of evolution and improvement.

Even if there was such improvement, it would go from absolute shit to less absolute shit. If someone thinks that's improvement, fine I guess lol.

Now if you compare his GNR performances to his ACDC performances, now that's clear improvement. With GNR he's far from giving his all to fans he loves so much.

They were on the road for almost 3 years, give them some time.

LOL, you can't be serious. They had plenty of time. Many bands release whatever they want during tours or breaks. And yes, I'm talking about both the creative and legal process of releasing an album. Lame excuse, sorry.

Maybe Axl thinks the songs are not that good.

If it's anything like CD, he's right.

i thought he handed a load of songs in to the record label years ago and they basically told him to piss off.

This is false unless someone gives a reliable source. It's been 8 years and nothing has been proved about this.

And then, people will always complain...

Yeah! Blame the fans! Great idea. I'd be really sad if Axl doesn't release music because he's afraid of strangers saying mean words about his music.

    Maybe for the fans

That's a very noble reason if you ask me. He has everything. He could release music for free if really cared about his fanbase. We know he does not.

  4. Best part for me was simply seeing Axl and Slash together again. I knew that Axl would sound like shit for most of the time and Slash has lost most of his soulful playing and now shreds some random heavy metal notes over basically every song. A sense of closure. Yeah, finally this happened. Duff being part of it was cool too. Pitman not being there was also very good.

There were good moments where they all sounded good for a song or two but for the most part, they were all below their levels and the tempo now is so fucked up, I have no pleasure listening to GNR. It actually makes me feel unconfortable.

They should have done everything possible to get Josh Freese (mutual friend of Ax and Slash) on drums but I understand Axl wanting to keep Frank. Fortus is cool. Melissa was a breath of fresh air, for her looks (sorry if you're snowflake and think this is sexism) and wonderful backing vocals. Who's left? Oh yeah, that Dizzy guy... He's ok, lol.

They should have done everything possible to get Izzy and Adler on board for the longest stint possible.

The amount of covers they played despite having tons of cool deep cuts to do instead is pathetic.

Axl's performances compared to his ACDC gigs are an insult to GNR fans.

Why has Slash changed his style so much? He's much worse now.

Duff's politics makes him an unlikeable hypocrite.

That's my summary. Better than NuNuNuGNR with lol Ashba and lol Bumblefoot. But still miles away from their real potential. If they still gave a shit about it...

I didn't expect it to be perfect by any means but I just can't get over the way his diagnosis is handled. Live Aid was amazing on it's own without having to completely fabricate the fact that he was dianosed prior to it.

    Spoiler

Fair enough and I wasn't replying directly to you btw haha. I actually liked the scene. In early comments about the movie there was speculation they wouldn't even mention his disease so this was a plus. And I get why they did it.

How can you give a band biopic an epic finale and give it the more tension/emotion you can? It's not like their lives/the world would be at risk. So I understand them using Freddie's disease and solo album tension (Band never broke up or was about to, like they showed in the movie) to make that final moment pay off.

That's why I didn't mind about the innacuracies. They had to or the movie would be bland as fuck. Besides Freddie's disease/sexuality/parties, Queen didn't have much controversy did they?

    That's nice of you :)

And, haha, no, I wasn't insinuating you were a loser living in a basement.

It just annoys me when people (not just you) say they should retire, because there are still lots of people who do enjoy going to shows. I don't go around demanding people I don't like (anymore) to retire. It makes no sense at all. That is all.

lol "demanding". Just let people post whatever they want. The ignore function can protect you from the evil haters. Just click the goddamned button.

Just stay at home and let other people enjoy his live performances.

That's what I do, actually. That's what people who criticize Axl do, I believe. Or do you think there's a group of people going to the gig site trying to stop people from entering the arena?

I don't necessarily stay home though. I know that you're probably thinking I'm a hater with no life living in someone's basement. If you see how often I post here, you'll see that's not the case. Cheers!

  8. Unless he sounds as good as he did with ACDC there's no 'big improvement'. With GNR he sounds either bad or UTTER SHIT bad. I simply can't listen to this difference you guys can from one concert to another. The difference in his voice/effort between ACDC and GNR though is very clear.

Can't the guy just retire? Does he really need more money? Can't he get this money from other source?

Just retire from live performances. Record 1 album a year for the next 5 years and I'm sure all fans will be happy.

Does anyone who knows more than me know if the rumor of this being the last NIN tour has any truth to it? Money is a little tight right now but if this is it I'm going to figure out a way to go.

Hard to tell. Trent said in some festival "this could be our last show here, maybe..." or something. I think they will keep having short tours, some festival + small venues tours. In the future I can imagine Trent + Atticus doing some soundtrack shows. Trent has a big family now but he's on top his game. It's really hard to tell.

  10. NIN new tour kicked off last night and they played the whole Broken EP at the start of the show. Yes, that includes Happiness in Slavery, which sounded amazing with Robin simply kicking ass. Have you guys seen him singing "Shit Mirror"? It's also pretty cool. NIN still got it. Trent is in great shape in all aspects and Robin is just a huge part of the show. They are probably the most fresh 30+ years old band out there today.

We didn’t have that particular [predatory] relationship with girls. It was a lot more the other way around in some cases.

    Hahahaha so true!

Slash is completely right. I can only imagine the immense amount of girls throwing themselves at them just for their fame and fortune or to fuck a rock star.

Men and women are equally disgusting. We are all broken beings driven by sex and status.

  12. Ashba and Thal ruined it for me. Ashba for being an unlikeable and unskilled musician and Thal just because he manages to be a virtuoso and still "Meh" at the same time, nothing he does on stage impresses me. A very unlikeable combo, especially when you consider who they replaced: Finck and BH were very charismatic. Won't mention Slash and Izzy cause they never played in the same band.

But yeah Axl was on fire, great performances on a consistent basis.

  13. When will people finally let go of Axl/Dc? Brian is there, wouldn't be if weren't fully recovered most probably. So why would the lead singer of ACDC let Axl Rose sing in his place if he's just recording new music with his band?

Why the denial? The blind belief? This reminds of that Rovim guy and his "CD2 is coming" posts.

I'm happy for Brian and ACDC fans.
