With '93 voice yes, todays voice NO!!

Axl's voice is exactly why I'm not that excited about a new album with Axl, Slash and Duff, plus the fact that Axl could drag out the writing/recording process for who knows how long. As a Slash fan I'm more than happy listening to the old GNR albums, and Slash has a great thing going now with SMKC.  I'm looking forward to an AC/DC album with Axl on vocals (I think that's a better fit for him now) and the new SMKC album/tour.

So? Should Ozzy avoid mentioning suicide in his lyrics because some stupid idiot could actually attempt it? Then I guess the only safe way is to sing about flowers. This is Guns N' Roses, pal.

In a lot of ways, complaining about GNR lyrics from that era being offensive is a little bit like complaining about a song by Yes being too long. You kinda already know what you're getting ahead of time.

There's no fuckin' PC brigade removing shit from albums, if it ain't there its cuz Axl will remove it cuz its certainly on the copies of Lies in the stores right now.  Personally i think its a fantastic song, yeah its pretty racist but thats OK too, if you're feeling some kinda way i think you should be fre to express it.  What I do think was kinda lame was Axl not standing by it, both back in the day and now, he tried to justify it in the lamest of ways 'well, rappers do it!' or 'john lennon has a song called Woman is the N!gger of the World' or 'I got no problem with immigrants and f@ggots...BUT..', fuck that man, if you're gonna do a song like that then say 'yeah, that was it, that was how i felt, thats the kinda person I was, thats where I was in life'.  I find it kinda funny that the fact that he might've been a racist is SUCH a big deal, yet any number of other like...immoral unethical things they did are like, celebrated   You could be a junkie, you could slap bitches left right and centre, you could be beating the fuckin' shit out of people on the street...just don't say n!gger or f@ggot, please!  Cuz, y'know, we gotta have standards here!

If you're gonna celebrate people like GnR or Iggy Pop or Johnny Thunders (not that GnR are in the latter twos league) for basically being street scum well expect some street scum behaviour in them, expect Lower East Side in the late 70s type morals.  Don't go on about 'oh Appetite, Appetite!  Its so sleazy and real and blah blah blah' and then wonder why its a certain kind of person who engages in a certain kind of behaviour that makes that kinda music.

Yep, "Appetite" didn't reach the heights of badassery it did because the members of GNR were well-behaved, morally upstanding role models.

Bad ass song -Killer lyrics and bad ass Guitar by Slash =AXL telling the world what he thinks at that time in his life -I love this song -if it offends -grow a set -it was a true statement whether u agree with it or not  is your own take - I have always loved this song

Having the balls to include lyrics like that in a song (whether you like them or not) is the kind of ballsiness (combined with great songs) that made GNR a legend back in the late 80's.

  5. My heart wants to say Slash, but Iommi might be the god of riffs.  He's written so many.  Having said that, I think I prefer to listen to Slash's bluesier, sleazier and sexier riffs than to listen to Iommi's very heavy and dark riffs.  I still love Sabbath, though.  Another great riffmeister:  Jimmy Page.

I would also add If You Want Blood - You've Got It from AC/DC and Better Motörhead than Dead: Live at Hammersmith from Motörhead.

A few more I just thought of:

Made in Japan - Deep Purple

    All The World's a Stage - Rush

Double Live Gonzo - Ted Nugent

Live at Budokan - Cheap Trick

  7. To me (and to many others) Appetite for Destruction is one the greatest hard rock albums in the history of rock.  I would contend that only a handful of hard rock (not metal) albums come close.  Here's my short list of the albums I feel give Appetite a run for it's money, or come closest.

    Back in Black - AC/DC

    Highway to Hell - AC/DC

    Rocks - Aerosmith

Toys in the Attic - Aerosmith

    Led Zeppelin II

    Montrose - self titled debut

    Van Halen - debut album

As I'm sure I forgot a few, I would love to hear other's opinions as to what hard rock albums are in Appetite's league.

It is a needless discussion as it isn't an issue of Conspirators before Guns, but Conspirators before a vacuum

Rose doesn't want to release music for Guns N' Roses anymore. What is Slash, a creative fella, supposed to do?

I think I'm coming at this discussion from a different vantage point since I'm really a Slash fan first.  Of course I love and always will love "Appetite" and most of songs from the "Illusions" albums.  I got to see them in their prime (even Izzy was still there), and I will always be happy with that memory.  I'll never forget the summer of '88 when "Appetite" was just exploding in popularity, cruising on hot summer nights listening to those extremely badass songs!

Well since Slash and Duff are so amicable now with playing the Chinese material it suggests highly that they could see eye to eye more so with new material.

I think they balance each other out. Axl ponders to the extreme and Slash imho doesn't give things time to develop.

Considering Axl definitely has at least 10 songs written/recorded that he feels are worthy. I think they might comprise and pick what is the strongest out of his batch and possibly/hopefully have slash and Duff rework parts for those along with coming up with material with this lineup, five or so additional new songs.

But now that AC/DC/Axl are working and Slash is picking up on the conspirators album this could take another few years easily. These two factors are actually not giving Guns the time or resources to have everyone put all thier focus on it as a priority. I know Slash and Axl and Duff don't want to remain and be remembered as a nostalgic legacy act so I am sure they will get around to it at some point.

And it's still not GNR caliber material and it won't be remembered as something on that level either.

Clearly it's not "Appetite" caliber or the caliber of the best stuff on the "Use Your Illusions," but how could it be?  In 2018, though, I'm glad we have the well written/performed melodic hard rock that Slash and friends are turning out.

Slash and Axl would also have to agree on the musical direction on a new GNR album, something that played a big part in breaking up the band in 1996. So it's not so easy as to say "this could've been a GNR album, goddamn it Slash." Yes it could have if Slash was given free reign. Maybe he thinks the material suits SMKCs style better too anyway. I can't wait for this album, WOF was IMHO Slashs peak of songwriting since AFD. And his finest solo since NR on Battleground.

Yep, getting Axl on the same page with Slash (and Duff) is no small task, and that's not even addressing the issue of Axl's voice.  The recording of a new GNR album could take an inordinate amount of time given Axl's tendencies (and who knows how good the finished product would end up being at this point), and you can tell Slash doesn't want to wait around.  I also agree that Slash's songwriting on the SMKC albums is top notch.  Myles probably helped a lot with that, not to mention the other very talented musicians in that band.

I completely agree with you, I hope we hear Todd take lead vocals on a song or two on the album.

Todd and Myles harmonize great together, in my opinion.  Myles voice rarely bothers me, only sometimes when he sings in a really high register.  I do miss Axl (in his prime, not the current version) on the GNR songs, but the Conspirators play them so well I can overlook that.  They're one hell of a tight band!

Me too, and of course i'm also happy to get a new SMKC one, ...But there's this little inner voice screaming.... i want, i want, i want a new GnR also:lol:

I'm still so glad I saw them in 1991 when they still in their prime.  I saw them on the first night of would be the Use Your Illusions tour, but before the albums were released. This was before they added the horn section and the backup singers.  Even Izzy was there!

  14. 1. Apocalyptic Love - It's almost a tie for me between AL and WOF.  Both have well-written hard rock songs with great hooks and of course great playing from Slash.

    2. World on Fire - I can find something to like about all 17 tracks on this one, and plus, it's so well produced and sounds great

    3. Ain't Life Grand - great songs on this one

    4. It's Five O'Clock Somewhere - great jamming from Slash, but in my opinion, not as many strong hooks as you usually get with anything Slash is involved with

    5. Slash - some great songs, but like somebody else said, the different singers make this a less cohesive effort than the other albums on my list
