I agree that his top priority is good vocal melodies. But I think he did his best on CD, he was just struggling with writer's block at some point and never really finished them. This is exactly what I was thinking! On Perhaps, they produced them well enough to make it work. I'm not so confident the final product will be as good here. The vocals sound pretty rough in quality.

God, I hope Axl doesn't embarrass himself by releasing State of Grace with the existing vocals.
