There's nothing that quite sounds like GN'R of course but it depends on what you're looking for.

If you're looking for AFD sounding clones, there's tons and tons of them. If you're looking for far deeper musical sounds like they started to explore on UYI, there's a ton of that too. Just depends on what you're looking for..

I'm fine with any kind of sound and recommendations, though I'll admit I probably like the heavier AFDish sound a little more.  A little while back someone told me Dr. Feelgood is Motley Crue's AFD, so I got that and enjoyed it, which led me working through all of their discography except for Too Fast For Love which I just couldn't get since Amazon+iTunes don't have it for download and shipping the CD was listed as being delayed for a long time due to Corona.

I'll be looking into more of Dirty Honey's stuff.  Reignwolf wasn't bad but I probably favor Dirty Honey more.

Junkyard is a good late 80s/early 90s sleazy LA band that doest get a lot of attention. You've probably seen Axl wearing their shirt a couple times back in the day.

I'll be looking into them too.

I always thought that Speed Of Light from Iron Maiden's last album had a bit of a Guns vibe and the riff definitely has that aggression (as the Adrian penned tunes usually do). Killer tune!

As an aside - I've always been a casual Maiden fan but I've completely rediscovered them lately after reading Bruce's book. What a much better band to follow than Gun$ N' Ro$e$.

I may need to give Maiden another try.  I have Somewhere Back In Time and listened to it once.  It wasn't bad, but it didn't wow me.  I could have just not been in the mood at the time though, so maybe it's time to revisit.  Are their greatest hits really their greatest stuff or are their deep cuts far better?

I’d recommend just listening to all the tangential stuff that each member of GnR has done over the years. Snakepit, VR, SMKC, Buckethead (unlimited), Izzy (lots of good solo stuff), etc.

Outside of that, id say the stuff that “feels” the most like GnR to me is all the 90s bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, etc. Some people may disagree with me there, but to each their own!

I'll be revisiting the member's stuff.  Recently I listened to Contraband for the first time in years and still enjoyed it.  The first SMKC album I really liked (Apocalyptice Love I think?.  The second one...eh...we'll see how that third one is.  I still have to listen to his 2010 album which I have the regular version of.  It's absolutely obscene just how many versions of that there are with different tracklists.

  2. I think it goes without saying that we all love GNR's music, or else why would we be here? But with there being no sign of new music on the horizon and wanting to listen to more than just the same GNR albums, what music would you recommend for filling the void of that kickass aggressive GNR sound? I'm open to music with and without members of the GNR lineups.

  3. We'll be going on 12 years since GNR has released a studio album. They could release a new album. They could go an easier route and re-record Chinese Democracy like Journey and Twisted Sister re-recorded their music, which apparently Taylor Swift also has plans to do. They could go the easiest route and release what remains of the Chinese Democracy sessions or whatever was supposedly going to follow The Spaghetti Incident. Instead we're getting a picture book and an idiotic shirt.

I will always enjoy GNR's music, all lineups and albums included, but fuck this band. May Fernando always be referred to as Fernandon't, and may the internet meme the shit out of them. Anyone with Photoshop skills, now is your time to shine and work out your frustrations with the shitshow known as current day GNR.

I mean Team Brazil’s reactions to fan-filmed concert YouTube videos is damn near leaving the uploders a voicemail threatening to murder them and their families Cornette style, so you aren’t too far off.

The frustration I feel with this band not releasing anything new sometimes makes me feel like I'm Jim Cornette at a Dairy Queen drive thru and GNR is the Dairy Queen employee.

  5. Axl may have said Oh My God was a demo, but I find that very hard to believe.  He couldn't be talked into releasing a new album for 15 years and he had dozens of versions of those songs recorded, but he can easily be talked into a demo being the first official release for his band's new lineup?  I think Oh My God is a good song and very underrated, but if the initial reaction hadn't been so bad you'd never have heard Axl say that.

  6. I go to their Youtube page and the video that plays is the music video of Patience, which was uploaded 10 years ago. Not a video for any new music, not a video for an upcoming tour, not a trailer for the picture book that all Guns N' Roses fans were asking for, but a video uploaded 10 years ago for a song that was released in the late 1980's which while popular isn't their most successful song, it isn't the anniversary of, and it isn't their most viewed Youtube video.

Then I look at their uploads and see they have a lyric video for the one we've all been clamoring for, Move To The City.

I would point out how there are literally teenagers with better run Youtube channels and more content, but perhaps I'm being too hard on Guns N' Roses. Perhaps they're in need of said teenagers for help and just don't know how to use the internet. Kind of like how senior citizens will pay Billy Baxter down the street to come over and show them how to use their computer? Maybe Axl actually uploaded all of those leaks last year because in his mind if he doesn't want people to download unreleased music from the studio he'll keep them from doing so by uploading them to the internet. I bet he did that while enjoying some Werthers originals and playing that Halo game on his 'Nintendo' all those youngsters are talking about.

  7. Prince, Trent Reznor, and Radiohead among others took advantage of the internet before most record labels did to release full albums online. Other bands such as My Chemical Romance have full concerts available on either their Youtube page or their record label's Youtube page. Every porn star under the sun has DVDs of their work you can buy or websites you can get a membership to so you can watch their stuff. Meanwhile, Guns N' Roses has a Shadow Of Your Love lyric video on Youtube and shitty toy trucks you can buy.

I've been listening to a lot of '88 and '91 lately. Hearing the things Axl would say during these shows... it's incredible how far this band has fallen. He was so hell bent on being a band for the people, and they've literally become everything he denounced. It's so sad.

Axl said he didn't get along with Gene Simmons, but today's announcement is just as bad as a Kiss Casket or any of their other chotskies.  I love this band's music, all lineups and albums included, but today was very clarifying that they don't give a damn about us.

I’m trying to find anything positive to this, but I just cant... I mean... WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS BAND... they know our demands, they know what they can do to satisfy their huge fan base, but instead they think ‘hey, let’s release a children’s book’. Worse part is Axl, Slash and Duff may not be even aware of this load of shit.

Stop being selfish.  Guns N' Roses hasn't released any new music for 12 years so they could bring us this children's book.

Maybe with your preorder you will get a download link for a new alb... I can't even complete the joke!

    Marketing is hard, apparently...

Are you trying to imply that it might be a good idea for a band that is known for....you know....music, to actually release new music?  What kind of insanity is that?!  When Gas X releases their GNR Madagascar pills you're going to look back at your post in shame.

  11. To help fight childhood obesity I recently bought one of those bags of 150 candy bars that have Hershey/Reese's Peanut Butter Cups/Kit-Kats in it. Fewer bags of candy on the shelf=fewer chances kids will buy them and become obese.

I was a big fan of Hershey, but these regular Hershey bars don't do it for me anymore. I wouldn't say they're bland, but I honestly have no desire to eat these again. If there were Crunch bars in the bag that might be a different story.

The Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are delicious. Just the right mix of chocolate and peanut butter and it goes great with milk. My biggest complaints about these are those paper cups they're in get annoying to take off after a while, and the oil from the peanut butter makes it harder to open more once it's on your hands.

The Kit Kats are were and still remain a favorite of mine, but the big complaint I have about the ones in this bag is you get only one wafer and not two like before. I don't know how long they've been doing this but they never should have started that.

The Reese's Peanut Butter Cups win, with Kit Kats coming in at a close second.

  12. It's a shame the theatrical version never got a Region 1/A Blu-ray release. The version most readily available is the cut Walter Hill did with the comic book transitions. The movie is still great even in that form, but kind of like with Star Wars there's no reason all versions including the original shouldn't be available.
