He's had a track on some inside info since the the pre-CD days. On his old websites he spoke to people and got info about songs like Zodiac, info that we later learned with the leaks in 2019 was accurate.

Infact one of the people he spoke to was Jeff Leeds, the writer of the 05 NYT article about CD. He now works for Universal in some job to do with Peacock.

So he's not totally uninformed and has had accurate sources in the past. That all said he's been very vague lately.

I don't remember if it was in this particular interview but the sp1at-website (former rumourboard) was the first one to publish "Quick Song" as a title of a song with a riff similar to Teen Spirit (to name just one thing). Fun board it was, Gigger was another user who had connections but I'm not sure if he is still around. I think it was once said that Big Boss works in the industry with a stronger connection to Slash.

To be fair, we don't actually know if it's a recent decision by Axl to include the Eye On You vocals on Hard Skool. It's possible that he made that decision already 15 years ago or so.

The Hey's and the scream might have been a part of Hard Skool most of the songs existence. At the end of the day we were never supposed to hear Eye On You. If it wasn't for the leaks we would have never known that he used vocals from another song on Hard skool.

Who knows if some vocals in the old classic songs were originally recorded for one song, but used on another song instead. We don't know cause we don't have all the unfinished songs that Axl recorded during the UYI days for example. But it's possible that he cut and pasted vocals already back then.

You have a good point there, hadn't thought about that and I take back what I said if that has been the case. It think someone even said it was a talent of Axl to connect different ideas to one song but I always imagined that this statement was based on connecting different riffs/sections, not pasting vocals.

  3. After hearing the track more often, it's really hit and miss for me. In the fast bits, I enjoy Slash's guitar quite a bit, in the bridge, the drums are a big disappointment.

But for me, it becomes more clear, that I can't understand Axl's musical standpoint. In the first breakdown part in the soundcheck, I was almost convinced, that there would be new lyrics, because the lead guitar is not that exciting and more of a backgroundsound. But instead of thinking "what new could I contribute that serves this (new) song" he goes "what do I have already recorded (20 years ago) that I could force into the song" which I feel is so limiting. I just don't understand copying the hey's and the scream from Eye On You...

  4. After the clips from the soundchecks, I didn't think I would like it that much. It still leaves a bitter taste, that Axl really didn't add anything substantial to the song from himself, the middle part would leave room for that. Nevertheless I really like the changes they made from the demo-version, the intro is really nice, Slash's guitar is nice to hear, but...

My favourite moment in the demo was always the breakdown, it was perfect in my opinion. Especially the drums were just too good with a very melodious guitar. Now it's just... boring.

That said, it appears I'm in the minority with this opinion, so... ;)

Oh, I have no clue. Tried to search for it on YouTube, but didn't find anything. But you're not missing anything, really.

It was like an interview with the sound guys, and we could hear a bit of the instrumental version of SCOM. It was supposed to be something for the mid-2009 tour with Van Halen, I guess, which obviously didn't happen.

I remember searching for that clip myself but without luck. It was our first little bit of GNR-music with DJ on it and quite a few people were very open minded towards him because of his work with Beautiful Creatures. Then this soundguy-clip happened and I remember him talking about mixing a three-guitar-band and putting each guitarist on solo, muting the others. Ron was described as a very tasteful guitar player, playing little fills along the verses. Then the main-solo happened and well... It was a good decision to abandon the plan of letting DJ play the whole thing. It was already assumed, that the soundguy could get in trouble for posting that clip and it was quickly removed.

As it was often stated. I simply will never understand from a players point of view, how DJ with his skills was ever a guitarist in GNR given that in my opinion even fan-guitarists could outplay him everyday.
